SS cards should not be carried unless you need it for a specific use. If your wallet is stolen that number is key to identity theft and you just basically handed it to the theives. Leave that at home until you have a reaason to need it.

Yes, my purse with my ID is in my car.
But sometimes I run into a store with my debit card only.

Of course. I always carry my purse which has my driver's license etc. I think the only time I might not is when I go walking with my sister or dh at the high school track and leave my purse/wallet locked in the glove compartment of my car. But then my sister is with me.

No not normally. Well I have my debit and credit card with me in my purse if I need to go to the store but other than that I don't consciously carry ID with me. But I don't consider them ID's they could be anyone's they have a name on them but nothing else. If I was buying drink at the store there's no way that anyone would think I was under 18years old so they wouldn't ask me for ID!
There's no requirement for you to carry your Driving License here in the UK. You wouldn't get stopped if you were not violating a traffic law anyhow.

Depends what you class as ID. The only official ID I have is my passport, and I don't carry that round with me routinely. I don't drive, so no licence.
I do usually have debit and credit cards on me.
On occasion though if I'm going somewhere local with DH at the weekend, I might not take anything at all with me, except maybe my phone. He has keys, wallet etc with him anyway, so in theory I don't need mine. I do mention to him that I'm leaving the house empty handed before we go. Would only be an issue if we were separated.

not all the time. if DH is driving wherever we have to go and we won't be out long, I will just bring my phone with me. if there is a chance I may need to buy something or we are out longer, I will being my entire purse with my ID in it.

Always, even when I am going for a walk. I have a small pouch that I put my DL and house key in when I go for a walk.

I always have my ID with me along with medical insurance cards.
ETA: The thought that I'll be found in some random hospital with amnesia and no way for them to treat me freaks me out. Too much "All My Children" as a kid.

I do not. I keep it in the car. I only have it if I know I am buying alcohol or medication that requires it. If I'm shopping I'll have something with my name on it with me, such as a store card or debit card, so in a medical emergency they'll have a name. I worked in the insurance industry as a claim adjuster and learned never, ever should you leave any identity in your vehicle. If your car was stolen, they would have all your information!!! Never leave your insurance papers or registration in the glove box either. Same thing, if your car got stolen the lucky thief would have proof of ownership with him!!!!

Usually but only if I'm driving, e.g. I don't when I walk the dog (although theoretically if I died of a heart attack or something the dog is IDed...but if I was kidnapped I guess that wouldn't do me any good) or if DH drives I often don't bring my ID but hopefully we are not separated.

Most of the time, yes. Because most of the time I drive when I leave the house and I legally have to have my driver's license with me.
But if I were to take a stroll around the nieghborhood, probably not. However, I'm not one given to neighborhood strolls so......... This is me. I don't always have cash or my debit card on me, though. That's a new thing, because I'm trying to get a better handle on my impulse buys. They add up. At least for the next 3 weeks (they say it takes 21 days to establish a habit) I will not be carrying that on me unless I know I am going to the store to get gas.

My dad used to keep his in the car. Someone broke into the car, saw his address, knew he was eating dinner and proceeded to rob his house. So yeah, leaving in the car? DUMB.

Even when I walk/jog I take my license, a credit card, and $10. I have a little zippered pocket in the waistband of my workout pants.

Yes, almost always. I don't when I walk the dog in the neighborhood, but almost everyone knows me, so if something happened to me my identity wouldn't be an issue.

Never leave your insurance papers or registration in the glove box either. Same thing, if your car got stolen the lucky thief would have proof of ownership with him!!!! The thing is, at least here, if you're pulled over, they want to see your insurance papers and if you don't have them you are HOOPED. And we have road checks here pretty regularly. In November and December, it's very often CounterAttack, where they stop everyone and check people out re: drinking. Other times, it could be seat belt checks (though really, even when they're doing seat belt checks, they ask you if you've been drinking). So I would never take those out of the car. Here, at least, the insurance papers are linked to your driver's license so once you report the car stolen it would all be in the system, so the thief wouldn't get away with pretending to be the owner of the vehicle.

If I am driving, yes. I always take an ID in with me if I am making purchases with a credit card. My card is unsigned and says "check ID" on the back, so I expect businesses to frequently ask to see it.
I don't carry an ID when I walk. But I should. Two years ago I came across a neighbor who had been out for a walk on a Sunday morning and had a stroke. I found him, unable to speak or move but still alive, on the side of the street. Ours is a very quiet neighborhood and I was the only one around. I had no way of knowing who he was. Fortunately, another neighbor drove by, recognized him and was able to tell me where he lived. She stayed with him while I ran to get his partner at his house. He died a few days later. I'm just glad we were able to find his partner before the ambulance took him away. Since then I've forced my DH to get an ID tag to lace into his running shoes with my phone number on it.

That way if I am pulled over I know I have everything I need. I don't carry a purse and there's no way I'm jamming all that stuff in my pockets everywhere I go. I'll take my chances. But thanks for the warning. I do appreciate it.

Insurance papers and registration cards are not "proof of ownership." You really only need to worry about thieves getting their hands on your street address, especially when they know you're away from home. But I keep the car registration and insurance card in the glove box all the same. They're required to be with the car, and I don't need to be carrying them around in my purse with me. And if I let someone else drive the car, they would need the papers themselves. Besides, your purse can get stolen, too. Life is risky. Embrace it.
