I was in a get together with my db & some people he knows, and one woman was relating a story and said, "And all those thirsty heifers trying to be in the pictures with the guys. It's not like anyone would want them...."
And she & a couple of others looked up at me. The only "fat girl" in the room.
I just wanted to crawl in a hole.
I know I'm very fat, and I know it's my fault. I know every time I eat a cookie or plate myself up a second helping that it is my fault.
And I know they weren't talking about me specifically, but I felt embarrassed none the less.
eta: I don't know if I'm the only person who has recently learned what "thirsty" means in this context, but it's someone who will date anyone, just to have someone.
Thanks for listening.

That says far more of the speaker than of you. Bitch.
I'd like to say I'd have gotten up and punched her in her throat, but more likely I'd just sat there and felt embarrassed. I'm sorry you had to hear those hateful words.

What a bitch. I would have taken my thirsty self and pummeled that scrawny ass!!!
I am overweight as well. Everything you wrote about from cookies, plate size to being the only heavy one there....I have been there. I'm sure lots of people have. Take care of yourself. Be kind to yourself.
The woman who say those ugly things. They have issues inside as well. The only difference is you acknowledge your problems and recognize them. They don't.....and that makes them uglier than any fat person I know!!!

I think my response probably would've been somewhere along the lines of, "I know, right? A real man would always choose a judgmental bitchy twig over a kind and polite heifer." Or I'd just moo at her and give her a challenging stare.
But yeah, that was beyond rude of her. I'm sorry you had to deal with her.

You know I'm 80 pounds lighter than I was 4 years ago and comments like that still make me feel sad. I think I could weigh 102 pounds and still feel completely insecure about my body. People just don't even realize how hurtful comments like that are.

Consider the source, then find new acquaintances! Regardless your physical attributes or whether you took the comments personally, I would suggest not hanging out with vain, insecure people who spend their free time belittling others to feel good about themselves. You deserve better...

I promise you, those women do have issues. It truly is what is on the inside that counts. And people can change the amount of matter between their bones and skin, but it is much more difficult to develop a soul.
If you decide to alter the thickness of that in-between layer, do it for yourself and no one else. I'm currently striving to change mine. And for me. For my own health. People around me have seen me go from normal to super skinny and now to overweight. As I've mentioned before, the super skinny got the most comments because it seems less nasty to pick on. I'm still the same person on the inside, no matter what is going on in that particular layer of me.
Regardless of what the scale says about you, go by what YOU know about you. You know your own worth. And believe me, it's not what size pants you wear.

Some people have no tact, no manners, and no common decency. As a 'fat girl' who used to be a 'skinny girl' I can't imagine why someone would think it's OK to say such a thing.

Being overweight is not something to be 'ashamed' of. Even if someone is not happy with their current weight and/or choices that brought them to that point.
Prejudice, discrimination, hatefulness, hurtfulness, dishonesty, disloyalty, meanness, unkindness, selfishness, lack of compassion and empathy for other human beings...actions and behaviours that impact negatively on the lives of other people....those are things to be ashamed of.
Our weight does not define us or say anything about the kind of human beings we are. I read something one time that a friend who was doing through gastric bypass surgery posted on her facebook.
"Yes, I have fat. But I am not 'fat'. I have skin too, and hair and teeth, but I am not any one of those things either.'
It can be embarassing to be singled out that way (whether intentionally or not). The only one who should have felt ashamed by that woman's comment though is 'her'. It reflects on her character, and who she is. Not on who you are. {{Hugs}}
