I was taking my daughter back to college, so I plugged mine in. In these newer cars it is easy to get going 70+ miles an hr. I drove by an unmarked patrol car and he pulled me over. He gave me quite a lecture on how this deceptive and is this what I am teaching my daughter. He was right on all accounts. He asked for my license and asked if i have any pts on my license . Thank goodness no. He then told me I could go. My daughter said he was a little condescending. I told her he was right on all of his pts. We put the detector away and I tried to really watch my speed.
Any other drivers use one of these devices?

I used to use one, but just haven't purchased the wiring to have it installed in my new car. At some point, I will. I do, however, use WAZE on long trips because I do have a lead foot.

I used to have one 20+ years ago when I was going back and forth to college and then to visit now-DH, but I haven't had one for years. I don't really intentionally speed any more, I had a ticket in town a few years ago and it pissed me off so much that I am very careful now.

I don't. I just use cruise control. In Texas you can drive 75 to 80 mph. How fast does one need to go? How much are you speeding that you'd be driving fast enough to get pulled over? That's dangerous. Slow the fuck down.

Sorry- but I agree with the police officer. we have tried to teach our boys to find the good in policeman and not find ways to avoid them. Having a radar detector screams that you are purposely trying to get away with something. We drive long distance on the interstate all the time. I set the cruise a little above the speed limit.
When children grow up will you support fake I.d.'s and other sneaky things?

We've never had one (honest!) - the cruise control feature in our vehicles keeps us legal.

They are illegal in Virginia! So, being a rule follower, no, I have never used one.

I have one that I've used a few times on road trips, cuz give me a straight road, light traffic and I'll drive like a bat out of hell.

I don't have one, never have. It's a little weird, but I could be driving over then after a bit, will look down to check my speed and find I'm doing the speed limit. Within 5 minutes, I'll see a squad car. I ignored it once, sped up a little and got a ticket.

No. And I have the speeding ticket to prove it. But Wyoming is so boring to drive through, all I want to do it get out of it. Now I try to remember to use cruise control.

Around here you're made fun of if you use one of those, you're looked at like you're a wannabe who's trying to be a badass. And while I get frustrated if I do get a ticket, I'd rather the kids see that, than me trying to outsmart an officer. I always say if you're dumb enough to speed, you deserve the ticket. And yes, I've been dumb a few times in my life. In fact, I passed a hidden photo radar this morning and only saw it after I saw the light flash from behind for someone else. I hope I wasn't speeding, I know I slowed down when I saw I was over speed a bit, but if I do get a ticket, no one to blame but my stupid foot.

Never owned one. I do, however, have the Waze app and it usually will alert you to police, cars that are broken down, wrecks, etc. Great app. It does not warn of radar, just police.

I remember many people having them in the 80's but I was too poor so I couldn't afford one. Now I'm just too cheap and I already have my iPod and GPS sitting out/plugged in so I don't need any more gadgets. I've only had one (speeding) ticket in the past 20 yrs. Long road trip rocking out to Journey

No, I've never used one. Just rely on cruise control for those long boring stretches.

Don't have one, don't need one. Do I break the speed limit? Of course I do. And if I get caught, I deserve the ticket/fine/punishment I get. I don't say this because I'm pea perfect, it is just how I live my life.

Honestly I didn't know they still made them. No I don't have one. If I get pulled over that's my own fault. I fully admit to speeding but only enough to keep up with traffic. Which also means blowing past blue hairs...I think they are more dangerous to be honest.

I had one 20 years ago, but not since then. I forgot all about them! I use my cruise control and hope that it keeps me out of trouble. I have an extra large lead foot!

No, I never understood why people insist on using them to be honest. Especially with cruise control, it's so easy to set your speed at the speed limit and forget about it.
I'm not saying I'm perfect, I have gotten a speeding ticket before, and a ticket for rolling through a stop sign - but buying a device to purposely speed - it never even crossed my mind. Especially considering they are illegal in most (all??) states.

I've never had a radar detector and haven't heard of anyone using one in years. I tend to travel with the traffic, so will get above the speed limit 5+ mph, but don't need to be the fastest car out there. just a little hijack - we have an app that you can send to let someone know when you are on the way somewhere (Glympse). It is great for tracking where DD is when she heads out on her own with the car. I sent a Glympse to the kids one night that we were on our way home and DD immediately texted "tell dad to slow down, he's going over 80!" Yes he was, and yes he did

Yeah, maybe I am one of those blue hairs driving the speed limit, but I've always been a rules girl. No you are NOT who I am talking about. If you are going the speed limit you are fine. I'm talking about the ones going 40-ish when the speed limit is 70 here. They are scary.
