I am going to ask that each and every member here go out right now and show your support for your country and hang the American Flag in front of your place of residence. If you have an apt or condo put one in the window etc.
If you don't own one they are cheap enough at many places-Target WalMart Dollar Store/Tree! but please show to everyone that this country is the best and it doesn't make any difference what "party" you belong to since this weekend we belong to the Party of America and we say NO to the interference of other countries and governments-we don't want or need you!
It is a beautiful site to drive or walk around and see our flag flying proudly everywhere!

Carol What a slap in the face to all the allied nations who serve along side US service members around the globe, fight, bleed and die for the same causes. This Memorial Day, please in some small way, honor the fallen, and remember their families and friends.

This is my song, O God of all the nations, a song of peace for lands afar and mine; this is my home, the country where my heart is; here are my hopes, my dreams, my holy shrine: but other hearts in other lands are beating with hopes and dreams as true and high as mine.
My country's skies are bluer than the ocean, and sunlight beams on cloverleaf and pine; but other lands have sunlight too, and clover, and skies are everywhere as blue as mine: O hear my song, thou God of all the nations, a song of peace for their land and for mine.

Being from a long line of military (hubby included), we fly ours year round. There are only 3 of us in our subdivision that do. I remember when people used to fly theirs all of the time. I miss that and sure wish more people would fly it daily but also be mindful of the flag rules such as: (a) It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flag staffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness. (b) The flag should be hoisted briskly and lowered ceremoniously. (c) The flag should not be displayed on days when the weather is inclement, except when an all weather flag is displayed. (d) The flag should be displayed on all days, especially on New Year's Day, January 1; Inauguration Day, January 20; Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, the third Monday in January; Lincoln's Birthday, February 12; Washington's Birthday, third Monday in February; National Vietnam War Veterans Day, March 29, Easter Sunday (variable); Mother's Day, second Sunday in May; Armed Forces Day, third Saturday in May; Memorial Day (half-staff until noon), the last Monday in May; Flag Day, June 14; Father's Day, third Sunday in June; Independence Day, July 4; National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day, July 27; Labor Day, first Monday in September; Constitution Day, September 17; Columbus Day, second Monday in October; Navy Day, October 27; Veterans Day, November 11; Thanksgiving Day, fourth Thursday in November; Christmas Day, December 25; and such other days as may be proclaimed by the President of the United States; the birthdays of States (date of admission); and on State holidays.

I have a small all weather flag in the front landscaping. It's there every day. It's a nod to my father. We had a large stationary flag pole in our yard when I was growing up. He taught all of us kids (5 of us) how to raise and lower a flag and to fold it correctly.

We have a huge American flag that flies in the center of our Main Street as well as smaller flags that are lined up and down the street. It looks awesome and makes me proud and grateful for the sacrifices Americans have made for this country.
That being said, OP, "please show to everyone that this country is the best and it doesn't make any difference what "party" you belong to since this weekend we belong to the Party of America and we say NO to the interference of other countries and governments-we don't want or need you"! I find just to be insufferable and obnoxious. I think we have a lot of evidence now that demonstrates it DOES matter what party you belong to. Lots of people in that one party are putting party over country right now, every day.

We always have a flag out front. Proud to display it all year long. I think on our road about 20 houses, 2 houses have flags.

I love that hymn by Sibelius... we have sung it in church choir.. we don't fly the flag at our house, but it has no reflection on our patriotic feelings.

LOLZ that's not exactly what Memorial Day is for, but I give you a C for effort.
My flag snapped off the base in a storm. I need to replace it. Maybe I'll remember to do that next time I'm at Home Depot thanks to this thread. I like seeing the flag.

gram2sojo I think you mean well, but sadly, EPIC FAIL. This board is full of people from literally ALL OVER THE WORLD. This is not an Americans only board. Memorial Day is NOT about showing how great America is. It is Memorial Day, meaning memory - remembering people who died while in service to the USA. Other countries have Remembrance Day and other similarly named days for the same purpose on other days. Now I am going to go on a rant about the American flag. I served in the military and I do not think having long familial lines of people who served makes anyone more patriotic than someone else. I do not think flying the flag or not flying the flag makes a person patriotic. I know people who fly the flag and are racist as possible and wrap themselves in the flag and talk all about how they love the old America - you know, the old 'white' America. Seeing a street of flags may make YOU feel all fuzzy and warm and I'm glad. But you can't cover up what is happening in this country by flying a flag. If you mean, Russia when you speak of interference then say Russia, because I for one will welcome allies if N Korea attacks. Lastly, my number one pet peeve about the flag is the people who have no idea what the Flag Code of the US states. I will bet that you have violations of the flag code all over your home, from Old Navy Tee shirts to flag stickers on your car. The flag represents the living breathing United States of America. So it is no different than if people stepped out of their homes and waved at each other. Believe it or not. Memorial Day exists to take time to remember those who died. It has become an unofficial gateway to summer, and getting together with others and enjoying time together can be an excellent way to cherish the living while remembering those who are gone. But I will not rush out to a store to buy a flag today. No way.

It is nice to hear someone who has served express these thoughts because when I do, apparently I am being unappreciative and unpatriotic. I will say that I have a rather conflicted relationship with Memorial Day and people who wrap themselves in the flag only make it worse. Also, thanks for your service.

I fly the Stars and Stripes all year long because I am a proud American and I love our flag. I respect my neighbors' right to display/not display the flag as they see fit. Doesn't make me more patriotic or more American than the next person.
Today, however, is the day set aside to Remember, Honor, and show our Gratitude to those men and women of the uniformed services who paid the ultimate price for everyone. I don't need to fly a flag to do that.

gram2sojo, I'm glad that you believe your country to be 'the best' - whatever that might mean to you. I have no problem with patriotism, indeed I am proud of my own country (Scotland). However, as long as your country continues to deny proper healthcare to many of its citizens, and allows just about anyone to own and use military-grade weapons, I will have to disagree with you that it is the 'best'.

As an Australian - a country that is one of your closest allies, I'm genuinely offended by that. Best we cancel those extra troops we're about to send to Afghanistan at the US's request. How dare you. Thank God not everyone in your country is that insular and small-minded.
