So confession time, I was totally intimidated by the Cameo 3 I have had sitting on my desk since Black Friday/Christmas time. I was irrationally afraid/intimidated by it. I have had the Cameo for 5 years and loved it so I am not sure why this one scared me but it did so it sat. Finally I had enough and decided this weekend I would set up and use the darn thing! So I did! I set up it up, updated software, firmware, synched the bluetooth, transferred all my store files (that was a bit tricky and frustrating) and am now happily learning the new interface and cutting away.
What has you a bit intimidated? Maybe a Pea can offer some tips etc to help ease you into conquering your "fear".

I'm glad you are using and loving your machine! Mixed media pastes and paints and mists and stuff like that intimidate me. I'm not an artist, but a crafter, and I feel totally out of my league with all that raw material. Heat guns for embossing also intimidate me. I've tried heat embossing all of one time, and it turned out okay.

I just put a little adhesive on the back to keep it from sliding around, since they are so light.

It would have to be mists for me. I have a few bottles and I don't use them. I'm afraid I won't like the look and it will ruin my page; so they sit.

I'm not intimidated by scrappy trends and tools, but I have a pretty good idea of my capabilities, so there are some things I have chosen not to try.
I don't ever plan on colouring in stamped images with all the hues and shading. Couldn't colour properly as a child, and the ability has not magically appeared yet! I mess around with mixed media-- emphasis on the MESS-- but never get the results I am trying to emulate.
I have a sewing machine, but although I love and pin a lot of LO 's with stitching, I know I will never attempt that: too many things that could go wrong with my skill level...

For me it's electric cutting systems. I'd be worried I'd always be dealing with it breaking down, if I could ever get it up and running in the first place. No thanks. And I don't think I'd use it enough to get my money's worth out of it.

The 3D printer dh surprised me with for Christmas. I didn't ask for it. I would have probably preferred something else it's completely different software, etc than I'm use too. But it was super sweet of him! I have it out now. I still have a few things to do to have it set up. Maybe next month.

I'll definitely get it figured out it just might take me a couple of months.

Stamping. I've tried a gazillion times. I just can't get the hang of it. It's OK though. I have plenty to keep me occupied!
The other thing is using liquid things - mists, sprays, anything that has to dry awhile. I just can't get into it. I'm too speedy about getting my pages done and don't have time for it. It seems too hit or miss.
Lastly, digital scrapbooking. Would love to do this eventually but just can't even imagine doing it right now. I would need some kind of amazing program for my computer I imagine.

Watercolor. I watch people like Kristina Werner who make it look so easy and then feel stupid that I can't get the hang of it. Of course, logically I know she's spent a ton of time working on her skills, but that doesn't change the fact that I watch her create masterpieces and think I can do it too since I have the same watercolors. While I doubt I'll ever be at her level, I just need to practice more but it's frustrating when you're not good because you don't feel like you're making progress.

I have a new career since I retired. I am doing a lot of computer work that had always mystified me in my previous career. This newfound confidence has leaked over into other aspects of my life. I no longer worry that I need my techie kid to conquer new things. Currently, nothing is intimidating me except my pile of photos to be scrapped.

I'm also in the mixed media camp. I have mists I don't ever use. I can't even fathom getting modeling paste.
It's funny because I am actually a pretty decent amateur painter. But paint on my scrapbook pages seems like a whole other world to me.

I recently found a lady on YouTube called Elemental Designs and she does a lot of mixed media and explains why she does what she does. I may try to do some in the near future. I have to buy some paints and mists first.

Mixed media for me. I do love watercolouring though and want to get better at that. Watching lots of technique videos at the moment about using watercolours with stamps.

Digital. I'm in a 'comfort zone' with Picasa for photo editing and just slowing learning PSE.

Mixed media. I don't really care to try it, but, if I did, I'd have no idea where to start.

Anything techy...
Also my ATG. I thought the tape was supposed to last forever, I have scrapped maybe 2-3 times since I bought it and already had to change the tape roll... maybe I have scrapped more than I thought I have. I'll have to count pages...
Anything gloopy/messy. Mist I'm fine with mists but pastes and such I don't even want to attempt. I also don't like frosting cakes.

I have really enjoyed reading this thread. For me, I would have to echo those that said sewing (flashbacks to when I first learning to sew and my instructor made me sew on paper) and mixed media. With both of these, I LOVE the look on other people's pages, but I am either afraid of messing up my paper/layout too far into the project to undo it, or when I do it as a base for something it never quite looks right to me. I have used some minor mixed media on pages (modelling paste through a stencil) and I quite like the look. Having taken art journaling it seems as though mixed media pages sometimes go through an "ugly" phase and I just don't know how to push through to get it looking good again.

All the above. Except sewing. It was my hobby before I found scrapbooking.

I guess mixed media. There is so much stuff out there and some of it I am clueless.. Like embossing and inks and all that.. you have to use certain kinds of inks? Then all that beautiful glitter... I was at a sale over the weekend at my LSS (YES!!) and they had these pretty good size bottles of loose glitter.. I have no idea how that glitter is really supposed to stick and then not get all over the place? Stamping.. I can't seem to incorporate stamping into scrapbook pages. I have tried but gave up and sold most of my stamps. I like those Spellbinder templates, but I have no machine to use them with. Then I see the price of them and think, well I don't need to start spending that kind of money. But I do like to use tons of embellishments and glitter glue and whatevers... so somewhere in there I have drawn a line.

A blank page?
My real answer is anything messy. Paints, mists, pastes, etc. I do, however, want to work past this. I have just started with some water coloring and so far so good. Nothing ruined and I liked the end product. Baby steps.
It makes this stamper sad to hear so many of you have stamps on your list. If I could, I'd come to your house and give you private stamping lessons.

The only thing that has ever intimidated me was my Cameo. I let it sit in the box for a couple of weeks before I took it out and gave it a try. Now I use it regularly.

I'm a mixed media artist and not a scrapper, and to be honest the things that intimidate me are arranging things on a page. I'm terrible at that.

But paint on my scrapbook pages seems like a whole other world to me. I felt the same about mixed media (well, except that I'm NOT a decent amateur painter, LOL) and then I watched InkieQuill's "Journaling by 5s" videos and decided to just play along. I made my first mixed media pages that way and used them as backgrounds for a 6x8 trip album. The smaller size and knowing that it was for a specific project helped me get past the hurdle...and that the whole point with Journaling by 5s is that there's a time limit so I didn't have time to second guess my choices. Here's a link: Journaling by 5s #1

As for arranging things on a page do you tend to gravitate more to linear or layered/messy? Save

I am timid about most new things when they come out....I tend to watch the trend for a long time before trying...funny thing is when I decide to try it I usually like it....like mists and embossing....but I was really late to the party!! LOL!!

Just print it to the shape you want. This engineer suddenly wants a 3d printer.
