Any pea recommendations for a good bug spray? I am traveling next month to PEI and I have read it is a good idea to have bug spray because of mosquitos and other biting bugs. I don't live in an area with lots of bugs, but when visiting Alaska I was nearly eaten alive by mosquitoes. TIA!

For the Canadian bugs, you will need something with DEET in your spray. I would recommend that you buy it in Canada. There are many grocery stores(Atlantic Superstore), drug stores (Shopper's Drug Mart) and even Dollarama (Cdn version of Dollar Tree).
Off makes a spray with DEET in it.

We use Deep Woods Off when we vacation every summer in Minnesota. They make some stuff better than that that REI sells--you need the DEET!

My son and I are bug magnets. We use Avon's Skin so Soft bug repellant with Picardin. It's worked better than anything else I've tried.

The only thing that has ever worked for was DEET. I wouldn't bother trying anything else.

I love DoTerra's essential oil that is a bug repellent.

Thank you, I didn't know you could get DEET in the US. Will get the Deep Woods Off then!
Thank you.

we find that insect repellent with Picaridin in works better than the kind with DEET. Our county mosquito-abatement officer (yes, there are mosquitoes in Arizona-- lots of irrigation, watering systems, and there can be standing water during monsoon season) told us about Picaridin. We figure if they recommend it and use it with their job, it must be good. ETA: ENJOY YOUR TRIP!!! You're going to take lots of pictures, and tell us all about it, right?

I forgot to add that your trip sounds wonderful and I hope you'll share pics and details when you come back!
Deep Woods Off is noticeably better than anything else I've tried, and camping in Wisconsin or on Assateague is no joke when it comes to mosquitoes. But I've never tried the picaridin that others have mentioned. I wonder if anyone here has tried both in similar settings?

Well, we will get both the Avon and the Off Deep Woods just to be safe.
Yes, I will post pics and give details when I get back! I don't think I have been this excited and nervous about a trip before. I know it will be glorious though, no matter what! I have been re- reading everything I can about LM and am just about done with her biography, so I should have time to re- read some of the Anne series before I go and can finish it while I am there.
T minus 26 days!

But I've never tried the picaridin that others have mentioned. I wonder if anyone here has tried both in similar settings? I didn't like the one with picaridin in it, but Avon makes one called Expedition and the active ingredient is called IR3535 or something, and I thought that was just as good as the Deep Woods Off. My only complaint is that they now only make it in a formula that includes sunscreen, so you're NOT SUPPOSED TO PUT IT ON CLOTHES. I think they think people go hiking in tank tops and shorts... but not when you live in tick country, you don't. (I actually do like the "disappearing color" one, though, when I go to the beach-- that's a rub on, not a spray-- in addition to the sunscreen, it seems to help keep the the biting deer flies away, and deer fly bites are WAY more painful.)
