Haha, a Pea would do that! Honestly, I think both of the passengers were being jerks but the lady went overboard. Good for the airline for removing them for acting like toddlers, but sucks that the rest of the passengers were unconvinced for their stupidity.

Wow - didn't even know about this gadget! Skymall shopping anyone?
The fight started on a United Airlines flight because one passenger was using the Knee Defender, a $21.95 gadget that attaches to a passenger's tray table and prevents the person in front of them from reclining.
The Federal Aviation Administration leaves it up to individual airlines to set rules about the device. United Airlines said it prohibits use of the device, like all major U.S. airlines. Spirit Airlines and Allegiant Air take the reclining mechanisms out of their seats, leaving them permanently upright.

I had heard about The Knee Defender only from the Peas. But give me a person reclining their seat any day over someone who is taking up their seat and part of mine. I fly as a non-rev standby, so I can never complain about anything. But the conversations I have in my mind are epic.

The seats recline so little, I can't see how it can possibly make a difference to the person behind. I am crossing the pond and then heading to Africa in about two weeks! I hope I have no one like this on my plane

I think there was a certain Pea who was pretty proud of her Knee Defender purchase.

I only knew about the Knee Defender from the Peas. I don't do sky mall shopping.

Ah...the memories of 10 page "airline seat reclining" threads. Good times!!
The passion surrounding the topic was amazing. It always seemed to me to be evenly split between the "it's my seat, I can recline it if I want", and the "but its infringing on someone's else's space, so its more courteous to not recline."
If anyone is keeping score, I'm more the latter. But then, I've always been a bit of a people pleaser and prefer to be courteous to others since we all only have about 6 inches of space anyway!

Never heard of the knee defender. But I pretty short, so my knees don't need defending!

I can't imagine how I would feel if I missed a connecting flight because two idiots were fighting over a knee defender.

I think I would be very frustrated. Nothing you could do either. I guess just be glad it was two disgruntled people and not worse trouble on the plane.

Seriously? Who gets that bent over not being able to recline a seat for three or four hours? It wasn't an international flight! They were both being asshats, but the woman throwing water on the man--- that was seriously over the line.

I hope I have no one like this on my plane You must fly on different planes than I have ever been on. The seats on the planes I have been on recline so much that I can't get to my stuff under my seat, and they make me- who is in no way claustrophobic- feel like I am being squished and squeezed.

I was on a flight a few weeks ago and the lady in front of me reclined her seat during take off. Pissed me off as I couldn't reach my bag under the seat in front of me or comfortably put my lap tray down. Thank god it was a shorter flight.

Love this! My co-worker says he can read my mind when I have those conversations, but since they all draw one conclusion, I'm pretty sure he can't.

Yes, leaving my own personal view on the recline/don't recline issue out of this, lol, there are some planes that seem to just tip the seat a little bit, while others give you the feeling that you are going to be giving the reclining passenger a dental cleaning.

Oh man, I would be so pissed if I was on that flight!
I have been on plenty of flights where the seat in front of me reclined so much, there is almost no way to reach your bag and don't even think of using your tray to hold your laptop. Although, this was in economy comfort and I haven't had that crushed feeling in that section.
FWIW, I almost never recline. The exception would be if the person behind me reclined first.

Yes, it was me. Of course Scrappower would remember. She lurvs me. Lol
I now only fly first class or in exit rows so no more problems. The real villains are the airlines who give no thought to customer comfort. I just thank God I can afford first class. Otherwise i doubt i'd fly much

I'm surprised anyone would remember who said what. I can't remember what someone said to me yesterday. I fly a lot and usually pay a little more for those extra legroom seats. I do think certain airlines have seats that recline more than others.

What she means is she remembers everything that I say. Others on the thread felt the same way I do but it's not surprising that my entitled attitude is the one she remembers.
