I went to Tim Horton's for the first time a couple years ago while vacationing in Nova Scotia. The donuts were disgusting. Stale, tasteless crap. I don't drink coffee, so I couldn't care less about their coffee. As a southerner, I'm supposed to like Krispy Kreme, but I think they're gross too--way too sweet. I do love Dunkin' Donuts. But since moving to Minneapolis, it's been nearly impossible to find a good donut. This health-crazy city doesn't have any donut places.

Those of you who have local doughnut shops are lucky. All we have here (NJ) is DD and I don't care for their donuts. I don't drink coffee, but DH does and he has stopped buying their coffee, says the taste has changed in the last year. What I love about the DD's in NJ (at least near NYC and Wildwood, where I've visited) is that their DD's also have Baskin Robbin's. The best ice cream ever! I miss that place!

I grew up with DD, it was the only major donut chain here in Western Pa. When we went on vacation for the first time to Myrtle Beach, SC, my aunt RAVED about Krispy Kreme and how we just HAD to have them. So, she bought some for breakfast one morning and I was devastated that all they had was glazed! WHo does that? LOL At DD, you had lots of different kinds to choose from...lol.
Krispy Kreme came here about 10 years ago and it was popular for a couple of years, but most of the stores are closed now. As an adult, I LOVED Krispy Kreme donuts, especially right off the line. It was like warm funnel cake!! Deelish!

Apparently it's Dunkin' Donuts in the Northern states and Krispy Kreme in the Southern states. Not in Florida at least not in my area. All the Krispy kremes shut down here years ago. We are getting more and more Dunkin donuts lately though. But the local places are much better. There are still Krispy Kremes in south Florida. And the horror, I do not like Dukin Doughnut's coffee. Their doughnuts are not that great anymore either. Prefer Krispy Kreme when I am brave enough to eat a doughnut, they tend to attack me.

I should add that I don't drink coffee and I will only eat donuts from a local donut shop called Sweetwaters. Their donuts are made fresh 24/7 and are oh, so good.
I really need to cut out fast food from my diet and budget so I should remember this move when I get a craving for some fries from Burger King.

I'm in the Boston area, and there is a Dunkin' Donuts on every corner! Well, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but that is the closest to what I'd consider a Tim Horton's competitor in my neck of the woods.

I don't go to Tim's very often either. I actually think mcdonalds makes a better coffee (gasp, I know) and so do many other people. Around here holding your timmies is just a weird snobbery. As if people can use a $2 cup of coffee as a status symbol. They do make better coffee and that is far from the first time I've heard that.

I didn't care for Krispy Kreme when they were here. All donuts are sweet, by theirs are like eating pure sugar. It makes my teeth hurt just thinking about it. I do however, LOVE my Timmy's coffee. And their muffins. And their cheddar cheese bagels. I didn't like Krispy Kreme either. I remember their lame attempt at coming up here. Give me a fresh made Robin's Donut. Those are good for a chain donut place.

I live in Tampa now and we have a number of Krispy Kremes. I just moved from Iowa where we had one.
I absolutely loathe Dunkin Donuts and their plain, no taste, nothing special donuts, so having many Krispy Kremes here is awesome!

We're pretty spoiled in the Seattle area to have an amazing local donut chain, Top Pot: link
I don't think we have any Dunkin Donuts around here and just a smattering of Krispy Kremes.

I like all three. Tim Horton's, DD, & KK. I had Timbits in Niagara Falls & I thought they were much more fresh than the munchkins at DD, but I still like munchkins. And I like KK's donuts as long as they're fresh.
And by the way...
I completely agree with ^^^ that.

I would agree that DD and KK are the 2 main donut chains in the USA. My town has neither, and never has. We DO however have a Daylight Donuts, and they are superb! I think it's a small franchise/chain. They cook the donuts locally--you can smell the building from the street. The thing KK has going for i, is, they cook them all day long--there is nothing better than a warm, straight from the fryer, donut. Any donut that's been sitting around for a couple of hours just isn't as good.
My mom worked at Daylight Donuts for a little while when I was in elementary school. To get one right out of the fryer was the best--but they were still great if eaten within a couple of hours.

And I much prefer making my own donuts with my own special toppings if I want a donut. They are a thousand times better than the crap you buy at any donut shop, local or chain. I'd love to get a recipe from you...I have tried a couple that I haven't cared for and am open to trying something new. Do you fry yours? Or bake them?

A Krispy Kreme opened up on the south side of Oklahoma City in 2001. I was pregnant and craved them badly. I had never tried a donut from there yet I wanted one.
I don't remember how long they were there but they have since closed. I totally dislike donuts from there.

There's no substitute for Dunkin Donuts coffee. None at all. In MA, if you can't see a CVS, DD, AND BoA ATM at the same time, turn around, you've gone too far Friends don't let friends drink Starbucks

My first summer job out of high school was as a donut server at Jolly Pirate Donuts. So, you may refer to me as the donut girl wonder! I count myself among the Peas who Tim Horton's donuts are absolutely disgusting. The only reason I go to TH's is because my DD loves their panini grilled cheese, and I am hooked on their iced cappuccinos. I'm also not a big fan of Dunkin, though I love Krispy Kremes fresh from the fryer. My favorite donut places, though, are the locals. And one of the very best, if you ever make it to Amish Country in Ohio, is Miller's bakery. Absolutely heaven on earth! Oh, and on a political note, here's the latest donut/burger news from Ohio. Oy! I think the downfall of KK here, although they have since re-opened some stores, is that they had the doughnuts but crap coffee. I think people would rather be able to get their morning coffee and a mediocre doughnut at DD, than a good doughnut and crap coffee at KK. DD coffee is the closest thing in the US to Canadian TH coffee. I've never had TH in the US. Our hockey arena now had a couple of shops since we have so many Cdn snowbirds here and the new team owners are Canadian. But I haven't bothered to wait in the long-ass lines to try it. That's probably why KK seems to be doing well in Utah. More people want doughnuts and care less about coffee. There are a few DD that recently opened, but I haven't been to them. I heard they were here many years ago, but they all shut down. I like our local doughnut place.

I don't blame the companies for leaving I had no idea that our taxes were that much higher than other countries. Ours are 35% and Canada's are only 15%. That is a huge difference. If too many companies get fed up and move their headquarters this country will really be screwed. I mean that money had to come from some place. Meaning that all of us will have to pay more. This isn't new but more and more companies are doing it but are doing it quietly. I just read an article about it yesterday. It seems that in the past few years the number of companies doing this have really increased enough that our president is threatening companies that are thinking about it. No idea what he can really do about it other than try and rework the tax laws which I don't see him or any politician doing as they just want money and big corporations are always the bad guys.

We just moved to Canada and have been trying Tim Horton's Timbits. They are really yummy and we are sucker for anything maple. We moved from Los Angeles erroneously labelled the City of Angels. It should be called the City of Donuts due to the fact there is a donut shop in every other strip mall. My kids prefer Dunkin Donuts over Krispy Kreme, the latter being too sweet. I like the coffee at Dunkin Donuts but I only have it when we are back east.

For those who think it's an odd 'marriage', it's all about profits. There will be a huge tax break for Burger King if they can move their headquarters to Canada. Yeah, that's what I understand too. That is also why I'm done with Burger King. I won't support an American business that dodges their taxes.

We have KK and DD. I hate DD-the donuts are dry and stale and tasteless. I am kind of meh about KK's donuts unless they're super fresh. I'm not much of a coffee drinker at all, so even that won't get me into a DD. I miss Shipley's. My ass doesn't, though

We had Tim Horton's for the first time last summer when we went to Niagara Falls and loved the Timbits. The muffins were pretty good too.
We are surrounded by Dunkin Donuts here. The donuts are ok but we mostly go for the coffee. The iced coffee is particularly good. Krispy Kreme? Yuck. I had always heard such good things about them and couldn't wait to try them. On one of our trips down south, we got them hot and fresh. The first impression was good. Then the horrible aftertaste set in. They left such a coating of grease that I couldn't shake, even after brushing my teeth.
Does anyone have a Fractured Prune near them? We usually pick up a variety from there when we go to the beach and cut them up into tiny pieces to try.

If the "Hot Donuts" sign is lit when I pass our KK, my car switches to autopilot and heads for the drive-through. And nothing beat plain glazed donuts at 2 AM after the bars closed--used to be part of our Saturday night ritual until we settled down and decided we had to pretend to be adults.
We have DD too, but blech!

The part of the south I'm from it is Shipley Do-Nuts. I hope they are still as good as they were back then, they were SO much better than Dunkin or Krispy Kreme ever thought of being!

It was fun to watch them make the donuts, but HOLY COW! Way too sweet for me. The store survived only a few years before it closed.

There is a Tim Horton's in my neighbourhood (100 feet from the gym I belong to). My bestie likes their coffee better than Starbucks so we go there quite often. I don't like their donuts except for the unglazed old fashioned. They aren't as sweet. I hate Tim Horton's coffee. I like their Ice Caps but the coffee is blech. The drive through is handy though. I can't imagine putting a Burger King in there though. There are 3 (in all of Victoria) and putting in a whole bunch more won't make sense. There is one Tim Horton's near former BIL's house and they had the Coldstone so I am wondering if they will get the BK too. It's a huge TH and would probably do as well as the Coldstone did (with McDonald's a block further down)...
