Just in the last year, I've had 2 brand new DD's built within 10 minutes of my house. Gross. Their doughnuts were much better freshly made in the store. And now, if they're out...they're out. Guess there's no time to make the doughnuts when the box is empty. My favorite doughnut place...a local place...Dutch Monkey Doughnuts. Heaven. (but I treat it much more like a dessert than I do a doughnut...and don't get them often at all) www.facebook.com/dutchmonkeydoughnutsMy DH brought doughnuts home from there weekend before last. We had been past there several times, but they were never open when we were there. i didn't care for them. This is going to sound funny, coming from a woman who loves Kk, but the plain glazed, the standard for doughnuts, IMHO, were too sweet. Something about how the glaze interacted with the crust just felt wrong texturally, too. I am not a fan of cake doughnuts, anyway, so maybe that was part of it. The one exception was this powdered sugar one filled with some sort of lemon, maybe with buttermilk, filling...so different it was hard at first to decide whether I liked it. I did. The toppings were very creative, though. Have you tried the do it place at the corner of Satellite Blvd and L'ville-Suwanee Rd in Suwanee? I think the name is Sara's? DH went there the week before he went to DMD and they were pretty good. Certainly not as creative as DMD, but more yeast based choices, so I was happy Marcy

I didn't care for Krispy Kreme when they were here. All donuts are sweet, by theirs are like eating pure sugar. It makes my teeth hurt just thinking about it. I do however, LOVE my Timmy's coffee. And their muffins. And their cheddar cheese bagels. I didn't like Krispy Kreme either. I remember their lame attempt at coming up here. Give me a fresh made Robin's Donut. Those are good for a chain donut place. Are there still any Robin's around? Those were good!

As a previous poster mentioned, DDs are everywhere in New England. At least most of New England. I grew up in rural Vermont and the closest one was 30 minutes away, but where I live in NH there's four in my town alone and two in the town I work in.
Some people *love* DD coffee, but it just doesn't take coffee-like enough to me. It smells great, but tastes weak, if that makes sense. I will get a iced coffee there in a pinch, though. Give me an independent coffee shop any day for coffee drinks.
And DD doughnuts are pretty awful. As others have mentioned, they have an aftertaste of some kind and just taste fake. Both the yeast (my favorite type) and the cake doughnuts are gross. I don't know where any decent doughnut shops are near me now.

We had Tim Horton's for the first time last summer when we went to Niagara Falls and loved the Timbits. The muffins were pretty good too. We are surrounded by Dunkin Donuts here. The donuts are ok but we mostly go for the coffee. The iced coffee is particularly good. Krispy Kreme? Yuck. I had always heard such good things about them and couldn't wait to try them. On one of our trips down south, we got them hot and fresh. The first impression was good. Then the horrible aftertaste set in. They left such a coating of grease that I couldn't shake, even after brushing my teeth. Does anyone have a Fractured Prune near them? We usually pick up a variety from there when we go to the beach and cut them up into tiny pieces to try. I have a Fractured Prune! Anytime I run a race or have a long run, if they are open, that's where I head for some fresh, hot goodness. When we have company, they demand a visit too. Man, good thing it's after 2 pm and they're closed because now I'm hungry for a donut.

The reason Krispy Kreme's didn't last here in Massachusetts was because their coffee was terrible and they only offered donuts. Dunkin's donuts aren't fantastic since they've gotten too big, they don't make their donuts in the stores any longer. But DD has branched out with breakfast sandwiches, all day sandwiches and other things. DD is definitely the most popular coffee in New England though. ITA! When Krispy Kreme opened in Dedham, there was a line around the block every morning. Once the newness wore off the biggest complaint was people couldn't get their coffee/donut at the same place. I don't drink coffee. Have never been in a Starbucks. But I love my Dunkie's tea!

I don't go to Tim's very often either. I actually think mcdonalds makes a better coffee (gasp, I know) and so do many other people. Around here holding your timmies is just a weird snobbery. As if people can use a $2 cup of coffee as a status symbol. My uncle and his group of friends meet every day at McDonalds for coffee. He hates D&D but loves McDonalds....until recently. He said they changed it and he doesn't like it as much any more. He even called to complain and they offered him a gift certificate for free coffee, he said "I'm trying to tell you I don't like it".

There's no substitute for Dunkin Donuts coffee. None at all. In MA, if you can't see a CVS, DD, AND BoA ATM at the same time, turn around, you've gone too far Friends don't let friends drink Starbucks And you forgot the obligatory Walgreens that is ALWAYS across the street from CVS

Would you be OK if all US Corporations moved their headquarters outside the US so they didn't have to pay any income tax? I'm not sure that would be all that good for this country. It could very well be individuals would end up paying more in taxes to make up the difference. As I do believe it just not the Federal Government they pay taxes to but also to state and local governments as we well. This would not be so great for Burger King employee who are paid minimum wage. Something to ponder.
If enough companies leave, eventually, our government will be forced to create a more friendly business environment. These companies are going to pay taxes somewhere - we need to remain competitive as a country to attract and retain businesses. Our states and local governments have the same issue - they have to figure out how to attract businesses. If you read above, it may not be primarily about the tax issue. BK only paid 1% more in taxes in the US last year than they would paid in Canada. This merger is a fast way for BK to be more competitive now that McDonalds is doing well with the McCafe line. And Tim's needs to improve their food offerings.

And their muffins. And their cheddar cheese bagels. Nancy have you tried the new four cheese they are foisting on us? I hate it! I want my regular cheddar cheese bagel back! If I want to have a snack with my beverage, I definitely choose Starbucks. Also, I find Starbucks is an easier place to visit with a friend; it's quieter if you want to sit and talk. I don't drink coffee, so I am not a big Tim Horton's fan. They have ruined their doughnuts, they've now messed up my favourite bagel, and their food's never been great. But if they're paired with BK and I can get a Jr Whopper with my Ice Capp, I can see going more often. We have 5 Starbucks here and 5 Tim Horton's. I will go to TH's in the summer for Iced Capps, because they're cheaper than frappucinos and I do like them better. In cold weather, I like Starbucks better... their hot chocolate isn't as sweet. But Tim's will drag me in more often pre-summer during Roll Up The Rim... not that I ever win. We have local bakeries here, but no specialty doughnut shops. Cupcakes, yes, but no do doughnuts.

There is a Tim Horton's in my neighbourhood (100 feet from the gym I belong to). My bestie likes their coffee better than Starbucks so we go there quite often. I don't like their donuts except for the unglazed old fashioned. They aren't as sweet. I hate Tim Horton's coffee. I like their Ice Caps but the coffee is blech. The drive through is handy though. I can't imagine putting a Burger King in there though. There are 3 (in all of Victoria) and putting in a whole bunch more won't make sense. There is one Tim Horton's near former BIL's house and they had the Coldstone so I am wondering if they will get the BK too. It's a huge TH and would probably do as well as the Coldstone did (with McDonald's a block further down)... I was disappointed - and frankly surprised - that the pairing with Coldstone didn't work. I loved the ice cream, and at least where I live, we don't have much in the way of ice cream shops. I want a Ben & Jerrys, or better yet, a Baskin Robbins!

I'm in the Boston area, and there is a Dunkin' Donuts on every corner! Well, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but that is the closest to what I'd consider a Tim Horton's competitor in my neck of the woods. I have driven through Massachusetts. It is not an exaggeration!

There are dunkin donuts in the Seattle area. I never go to them, but they are here! I was so excited when I read your comment that I did a search on their website and didn't see one within 50 miles.. Where are they?! Too funny because I was excited for my dh who is from NY and DD. He buys their beans and grounds them because he misses their coffee So I also did a Google search (not from DD's site) and this is what I came up with. I don't know how accurate it is so I emailed it home and told him we'll have to check it out Dunkin' Donuts 2921 Martin Luther King Jr Way Seattle, WA 98144 206-722-9247 Dunkin' Donuts 23100 Pacific Hwy S Des Moines, WA 98198 206-824-8417 Last time I did a search from the DD site the closest one was in Nevada!

Tim's is great for coffee and soups, I'm not a fan of their donuts, now Amy Joy's, grew up with them, and they are starting to come back. Many of the franchises were bought by Dunkin' Donuts in the 1980s. I was reading some of the comments from reviews, Seems my memories (as well as other's) are not matching up with today's realities.
