I start a new job next month, but will be driving 60 miles each way. We need to replace one of our cars anyway, so I am considering either a Honda Fit or Toyota Prius. The Fit is cheaper, but gets lower mpg. Since most of my driving will be highway, the benefits of the hybrid are diminished, especially comparing these two. I think it's 3-4 mpg difference for highway driving. I don't have a local Honda dealer, but do have a Toyota dealer. I know there are board members here that love their Fits and Priuses. I appreciate any and all feedback, if you would be good enough to leave it.
If you have the Honda, is the rear view mirror an actual mirror or the rear camera view? I have driven Hondas and the camera view mirror is an adjustment for me.

My former BIL's wife has a Prius (my sister had the Prius) and loved it. I drove it quite a bit and it was so easy to handle. Their car is a few years old now, but his wife (now) drives it and it's really easy to drive, park, see, etc. It's a very handy little car. She only drives in the city so it doesn't get much highway driving but I know they like it a lot.

My bff loves his FIT. He can even put his big doggie and bed comfortably in the back seat. He loves the gas mileage, too.

Oh I am sorry. Neighbour down the street has 2 Fits. They are Honda people. She had one and gave to her son. She has a new one. She told me in July they are wonderful to drive. (Sorry I am no help I know).

I'm a Honda girl but my dad has driving either a Toyota or Lexus (or both) my whole life. I only remember one non-Toyota and it was a POS. I've either had a Honda or Acura and the one I deviated from that family I got a POS.
I am no help here really but don't think you can go wrong with either vehicle. Consumer Reports rates them both pretty equally if I remember correctly. Not that CR is the final word on cars but they are usually pretty accurate.
I'd say drive them both and see which one fits you best. See if the dealer will allow you to keep one for a few hours and drive it to your home and maybe to run a few errands and see which one feels the best for you.
Good luck with the job and the car!

I drove my pruis for 8 years and loved it. It was a fantastic car. I gave it to my mom when I had to get a bigger car. She was a little hesitant because she had been driving bmws for the last couple years. She LOVES it! It is a wonderful car!

We have both types of those vehicles as company cars (we also have a Scion) of the 3 I like the Fit best. It just fits me better. It seems to have a little more room in it which is more comfortable when we have more than 2 people in the car. Not sure if that matters to you.
Congratulations on the new job!! How exciting!

If you have the Honda, is the rear view mirror an actual mirror or the rear camera view? I have driven Hondas and the camera view mirror is an adjustment for me. I have a Honda Pilot and the rear-view mirror is a regular mirror. The backup camera is in the dash. I have never seen one where the view is in the mirror. When I go to back up, I will put it in gear, glance at the camera view, but use the mirror to actually back up with a periodic glance back down at the camera view. It is a 2014 so don't know if the newer stuff is different.

We just bought DD a Honda Fit. It's very roomy inside, has great visibility and is easy to drive. It has a regular rear-view mirror and a dash rear view camera. We recently rented a similar Toyota (Versa?), but not the Prius, and didn't like it nearly as much.

Not the car you asked about, but for good highway mileage, have you considered a diesel? i have a BMW 328 diesel, and it gets 56 mpg on the interstate and 36 in town. Wonderful driving car.❤️

Please research repair costs. DH is in the car repair business and despises hybrids because when something breaks it costs a fortune.

Ford Fusion. I get the first 22 miles free with the electric before it switches over to gas. I'm averaging 62 miles per gallon. Plus, I love the car!!

I absolutely could not love my Prius any more than I do. I've been driving for 47 miles so far today and almost all of it has been on the highway. At this point it says I'm averaging 65.7 miles to the gallon. It's much roomier than it looks and very comfortable to be driving and riding in. I drive a lot of miles for my job so before buying the car I did the math and even taking in how expensive the vehicle costs I still save money every month because of the great gas mileage. At this point I plan to be a lifelong Prius owner.

My DD just bought a 2017 Prius 2 and loves it. The car can parallel park itself!!! My favorite feature lol. It also gets her pretty good gas mileage - around 65 mpg on her daily commute and she loves only having to fill up once a month. This years models all come with the safety sensor package which includes blind spot monitoring and cameras. She ride shares with one other tiny little thing and two football players. The guys sit in the back and there is plenty of room for their legs. She got the car for $22000 out the door incl all title, taxes and other fees. The Toyota dealer gave her a $2000 or $3000 rebate, I forget which. She had started looking at used models but this was such a great deal that she ended up going new.
ETA. When she started looking we asked our independent mechanic for his opinion. He said Prius or Lexus were the most reliable and the easiest to maintain and repair. He advised us away from other models.

My friend has a FIT and hates it. Says it never lived up to the mileage claims and Honda was subsequently sued for it.
I drive 45 each way so I totally relate - I'm looking at a hybrid next time, but I want an SUV type.
My hubby was the first tech at his old dealer to get trained on the hybrids and he said they were great - just be aware there is a fixed life span because the cost of replacing the batteries will cost more than the car value way down the line. But that's not a short life span, and by then most people have replaced their cars anyway.
Friend of mine got the new Prius (replacing an older model) and LOVES it.

I'm in the market for a new car, too. I'm looking for a four-door, mid-sized sedan and I was considering the Honda Accord hybrid and the Hyundai Sonata hybrid. After test driving them both, I liked the Accord better, but I had second thoughts about getting a hybrid at all. (long story: cost of vehicle vs. environmental "cost" of the battery) Also, the 2017 Accord hybrids are great, but owners hate that there isn't a volume button for the sound system, you have to hold a finger on the display screen. The hybrids available on the lots locally are very picked over and not in any of the colors I'd prefer. The 2018 hybrids are being remodeled and are adding the sound system volume knob back in. The down side is that the 2018s aren't expected to appear until December. In the meantime, I'd like to get a new car sooner rather than later so I don't have to put any more money into my current car - a 2003 Murano. SO - I thought maybe I'll get a non-hybrid, but do I start over from square one? I plan on driving my new car at least ten years. Over the weekend I told my son that instead of a financial or life-coach I needed a new-car coach. Ugh.

I have a 2008 Prius (I'm the original owner) and have almost 200,000 miles on it. I haven't had any problems with it that weren't immediately fixed under the original warranty, which expired years ago, and I've only had to replace the tires and have regular maintenance (oil changes, etc.). My only complaint about it is that it has a blind spot, so when I change lanes I have to really turn my head in order to clearly see the other lanes. I drive 60 miles round trip every day and would never think of giving up my Prius.
