Of course not. If you think he's doing just fine and you're not worried, own it and take what comes. No need to say anything that isn't true. But if you do denounce him and his administration, I don't understand the problem with saying so. "own it and take what comes" ? So you (and others) think you can require people here (or anywhere) to publicly claim a position? You must think really highly of yourself. No more than you do, dear. We're all strangers on a board, so what I think of myself or what you think of yourself is not important. And "own it and take what comes" is standard for any position, is it not?

I am a liberal, who used to be Republican. What I would like to see is good, decent people stand up against tyranny and oppression. Doesn't matter if you are liberal or conservative there are certain behaviors that as a society I believe we should not tolerate no matter which political party is in office. There should never be the fear that any group can push their agenda on the American people and just expect blind compliance. We we are one nation "Under God" but I will defend each citizen's individual right to worship any God they want to. I want every person to call out racism, homophobia, xenophobia. I want my fellow citizens to scream out in a loud collective voice saying, "No, you can not treat others badly". I guess what I am saying is I would prefer to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with conservatives and liberals. I would like reassurance from all that we have a shared vision. I also think, Pink Lady, that treating conservatives, who voted for Trump, like the scum of the earth adds nothing of value. All it does do is further divide us. But my broad question remains...if I were to type in bold letters on this board "no Donald, you cannot treat people like this" what have I accomplished? Someone has said it would make them feel better, someone has said it may empower more people to stand up and call out what this President has done, and someone said what people can read on this board can make the aware of issues going on around them. All good answers and I appreciate the time taken to reply, but I just can't see how that's going to empower change or make the world a better place. Peaceful demonstrations could empower change, contacting your elected officials could bring change. Volunteering for a campaign you believe in and voting...that's something I can do to bring change. I just don't think whether I denounce Trump on this board or not is going to do shit which is why I never understood why the desperate push to force people to denounce Maybe it would make this little pea world a better place by letting hurting peas know that another pea cares. Well several people answered the question, plainly & clearly. So either you've blocked us all, your being contrary just to be contrary, or you agree with it, or ? I don't know what else? and I have clearly acknowledged the answers that people took the time to post, thanking them for their reply. Did you see that? Battery at 7%...time to plug in and go to bed.

Well. So.
Disclaimer: this post is the perspective of Liberal Me responding to what a couple-few conservatives are saying here.
You ain't gonna' convince me that you are being unfairly lumped into a stereotype of an Evil Undiscerning Hive of Conservative Intolerance by - who? - an Evil Undiscerning Hive of Liberal Nastiness.
That there is a logical fallacy. I don't know the fancy Latin name, but c'mon.
In this thread, one poster basically claimed that she can count NiceLiberalPeas on her thumbs. Another reports she has seen no flattering interactions from liberals on this board. (None?) A third used a lone post by a self-described provocateur to justify her claim that civil discourse is impossible, ignoring scores of reasonable posts.
My continued political thread malaise has many reasons, including deep unhappiness with some members from both "sides" and just a general world weariness. But if I'm expected to jump through hive responsibility-assuming hoops and hive policing hoops in order to establish my civil discourse street cred, I will fail. Guaranteed.
(I prefer to be judged on my own merits...such as they are. And FWIW, posting style is driven by personality, not ideology. You can't convince me otherwise.)
Thankfully, when I am in the mood - albeit, decreasingly - I can usually find civil, reasonable people with whom to interact here, although fewer conservatives in the general pool, which clearly is a detriment to our community.
But among those I find reasonable, I do not count people - on either side - who perpetuate this all!always!everybody!typical! monolith hive groupthink collective worldview (well, Refupeaview).

Okay, @jenny2 I will ask you (with a few edits) since it appears snowsilver ignored my question. How do "you" (Trump supporters not you specifically) turn a blind eye and support a man (Trump) who is racist or who at least is OK with racism? Who thinks there are, "good people on both sides," When referring to white supremicists and nazis? Any policy in the world wouldn't have me ignoring the fact that someone is ok with racism. So I don't get it! You claim you are not a racist, dont want to be associated with racists, but won't renounce those things... This is what Trump stands for. What would you prefer I think of that? Why or how do yoy ignore those things if you aren't okay with racism and or discrimination? What else shall I think in regards to what "you" have chosen to align yourself with? Please help me understand. Civil discord and all that jazz-

Also. 'Cause it's really perplexing to me.
A post from one of our most incendiary members - a Goodbye, Moronic Liberal World rant - was held up as an example of a post that was both unfairly received and contained grist for good, productive discussion.
So, is the thinking that the same forgiving (and selective) metric should be applied to all posts? If so, it makes no sense in the context of the grievances being aired here.

She posted it and then immediately left THE BOARD ENTIRELY, so she certainly doesn't seem interested in any sort of discourse, does she? she's not gone - no one leaves If you don't care to participate anymore because people are "mean," that's your right, but please don't pretend it hasn't always been this way, on both sides. i think i might have used the term 'mean' -but i specifically said both sides i don't think the left is worse than the right i remember - all of it politics here and the old board is horrible everyone hell bent on being right, feeling mis-understood, and needing to have the last word i have no idea how society will ever come back together - when this group of women can't manage it even if i vehemently disagree with you - i won't call you names or address your character it's sad gina Okay, but that really wasn't aimed at you. I think it was intended more generally. It's been so many pages now, I can't really remember.

@gajenny
I would like to see more conservatives call out Trump here, because I'd then assume they were calling him out at other places, and then empowering other people who were afraid to speak out, to also call him out and then to start call their representatives and try to stop some of this absolutely reprehensible behavior going on. He continues with this reprehensible behavior because his supporters don't speak out. If more of them did, there would at least be a chance that he'd want to keep his "fan base" and curtail some of it. If I heard more people speaking out against him, it would make me feel like this divide behind the two sides wasn't quite so wide.

snowsilver. I am embarrassed for you. I don't think Jesus would support anything you have done or expressed in this thread. If you haven't "gotten" that support for Nazis is a test from G-d, then you don't understand our Lord, or his son. I hope that you sleep well at night. I, for one, have completely washed my hands of you for now. You represent little positive or good of the Judeo-Christian religions. Have fun on your other board, and flying your Nazi flag, because with this thread you have shown who you truly are.

"BUT, if you stay silent when Trump does very little to make a clear statement that Nazis are not welcome in this country, then you are condoning their actions." I have seen this sentiment posted many times for quite some time. I have an honest question...even if every conservative no longer "stayed silent" what does that accomplish, exactly? Even if every person on this board participated in the daily threads here about Trump and his tiny hands, what does that accomplish? Why do left leaning peas hope to accomplish with the "calling out" of Trump or his Administration? Trump doesn't read here so why does the left want the right calling him out so badly? What good will that do? Sure , individuals can take part in demonstrations, contact their elected officials and VOTE their satisfaction or dissatisfaction with any elected official, but why the constant cry for the "calling out" of Trump? I don't understand a mentality that would question why we'd think it's important to say, "no, I do not support Nazi/white supremacist ideology." I'm an American of Hispanic descent. It makes me uncomfortable, angry and sad to think that anyone would even question *why* those of us on the left feel the need to stand up and say, "this is not acceptable. This is not what my country is about." The fact that our president has flat out refused to personally renounce an ideology that says that I'm worth less than someone because of the color of our skin is sickening. I've never said that Trump is "not my president," but it sure as hell feels like he doesn't value my life as much as he values those "very fine" members of the KKK and various neo-Nazi groups. It's too bad that you view this more as a need to be right than a need to express our dignity as humans, and to support the dignity of all the humans around us.

Thanks for the answer snowsilver . I appreciate that. You brought up a few things I hadn't thought about in my reply, like the debt. Interestingly, I just read in one of our local papers today that more people were deported under Obama than are being deported now, that he actually was tougher on illegal immigration than many people believed and the numbers were much higher during his administration than in others. I can't cite it because it's downstairs already in the recycle bin and I'm upstairs, pooped from a day of testing students. President Obama actually deported more people than any of the presidents who came before him. He was not, contrary to popular belief, soft on immigration.

President Obama actually deported more people than any of the presidents who came before him. He was not, contrary to popular belief, soft on immigration. Yup. Similarly, and contrary to our current president's belief, Mr. Obama did not throw open the gates to this county. This whole "immigration is now too easy" trope is goofy.

I guess for me it seems more important now. This isn't about calling out a president over tax policy. This is about calling out a president over much, much more fundamentally frightening things, like supporting Nazis. For dismantling rights for LGBTQ persons on what seems like a whim, and against the wishes/judgement of military personnel. This is about calling out a president who is taking away freedoms rather than opening doors to them. For me, that is the difference. But I ask again, what does me calling out Donald Trump on this board going to accomplish? Will me stating on this board that he is a despicable human being bring change or make the world a better place? You want me to denounce this President and Administration to simply make you feel better? [br The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. From the closing of that same Edmund Burke letter: "No man, who is not inflamed by vain-glory into enthusiasm, can flatter himself that his single, unsupported, desultory, unsystematic endeavours, are of power to defeat the subtle designs and united cabals of ambitious citizens. When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall, one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle."

And between you and G-d. Because I know where G-d stands.

When I saw it, I waited until I had some time because I wanted to not rush a response to you--a person I have loved and considered a friend for many years. And with that said--if I have to spell out that I am not a Nazi and do not support Nazism in any form to a person who has known me for so many, many years, then clearly there is a disconnect somewhere. I apologize for taking so long to respond to you, but truly my intentions were good. With that, I think I'll bow out. What you have said to me has been unfair and unwarranted, and you know that. At least the person I have held in such high regard for so long would have know that!

I'll go back and look but the only one I recall talking about another board is you. And even if there is another board, what possible difference could it make to you? You keep claiming you don't care yet you seem inordinately concerned with a group that doesn't and shouldn't concern you in any way. Strange.
So, since you are apparently *done* with Elise, be done. What difference does it make what other groups she may or may not belong to.?

I don't understand all this complaining. If you don't like arguments, don't read the political threads because I can assure you, in this climate and with this president, there will be nastinesss. He's divisive. We have Nazis and white supremacists marching in the street, and he doesn't immediately decry them. Let's not pretend there is anything civil about him or expect people to be civil about anything to do with him. If you are thin skinned, don't show up, peek in on threads clearly marked political, and cry when someone uosets you. It's like going to an R rated movie and complaining about the sex and violence. If you don't understand why people are not being civil about him, ask yourself how HE speaks about others. And why the majority of Republicans chose him as their candidate.
The reason people think most Republicans agree with him is because they do. He's the guy your party put up for election and most voted for. You could have voted for many independent candidates, and maybe you did. Good for you! But if you show up here defending him in these very troubled times, don't expect civil.
