My ds and I were having an odd conversation about mayo yesterday. He said restaurant mayo is different than what we use at home. He then added that ranch dressing is always different in a restaurant.
For the record we use Hellman's and Hidden Valley Ranch dressing usually. I know Miracle Whip is popular, but the conversation got me thinking about what brand mayo we're all using and/or anyone know what is popular in restaurants/fast food. I rarely get fast food so I wouldn't even know if they had it in packets what brand.

Hellman' s for mayo. Restaurant ranch is the best, because it is made with mainly buttermilk and that is why it is more liquid. Grocery store ranch is thick and gloppy and gross. And yes, I mean HVR when I say that.

When I lived on the East Coast it was Hellman's now on the West Coast it is Best Foods. It is pretty much the only brand name food we use.

Miracle Whip is not mayo... Mayonnaise has a very specific ratio of various ingredients to be mayo. Miracle Whip is a "salad dressing"
I'd look at bulk places like Costco or other restaurant supply stores for what brands they carry. I've never seen a brand name on a fast food/restaurant packet other than the name of the food place (I have two packets of ketchup on my desk right now. One says it is Jack in the Box the other says Whataburger)
Ranch dressing tastes different if you mix it with different ratios of buttermilk to mayo or add sour cream. I do agree with your dh they Do taste different, I just don't think you are going to your local grocery and buy the right brand.

I used to use Hellman's, then switched to a local store brand for awhile. I then had some at my sister's in Connecticut and have been using it ever since... Cain's All Natural. It's a regional (New England) brand but I order it from a place online. It's a little pricey, but my guilty pleasure. I also use Hidden Valley Ranch, but haven't a clue what restaurants use.

Hellman's mayonnaise and HVR ranch. I don't like Miracle Whip at all and live in New England and don't like Cain's either.

I always used Hellmann's mayonnaise and never thought about other brands. However, we went on vacation for a week and we were stocking up our fridge. I wanted just a little container of mayo so we didn't have to drag it back home. The smallest container the store had was Kraft. I'm hooked now, it was so much better than Hellmann's and I won't go back to eating that brand again.

The best (most restaurant-like) Ranch dressing is Uncle Dan's.

Hellmann, although people seem to like Dukes. Never Miracle Whip. Homemade ranch is so much better than bottled. Using buttermilk and adjusting the thickness makes such a difference.

We use Hellmans but I've been wanting to try Dukes. Haven't seen it around here yet. Most likely restaurants get a giant tub of food service brand mayo. Higher oil content. And HVR is not ranch! Bleck!!! I don't make my own often. I usually buy a pint from one of the restaraunts that makes their own ranch. My favorite is from Andolini's a local pizzaria or Peppers.

Never heard of Dukes, we eat Best Foods or Kraft, no store brands. Miracle Whip is not mayo but is acceptable in deviled eggs.

My co-worker told be that when he worked at subway a long time ago they had something called "extra heavy mayo" and he'd always cringe internally when people would ask for extra mayo on their subs because he knew it sounded really bad for you. Seems like restaurant mayo may be different than store bought.

Miracle whip. I don't care if it's "not mayo". Where I'm from, it's mayo.

We use Hellman's here.
Restaurant mayo IS slightly different and here it is called"salad dressing"
Ranch in restaurants around us is different than bottled--usually more peppercorn or some lunch of chipotle/hot sauce type.
