It is official I am going to Vegas and DH is tagging along. The room is paid for and I get a per diem for my food. I have been doing some research and found a couple things to help save money. On thing on a couple sites was playing MyVegas on Facebook. Has anyone ever done this? Much of what I read said to use it for your room, but since that is paid for I am thinking of the buy one get one free meals, mostly buffets.
What has been your experience with this? Is it really worth it? After just 2 days of playing just at night I have enough for a lunch already.
What other ways are there to get free or discounted meals or events? We are going end of October if that matters at all.
Thanks

And don't fall for that when they approach you and ask "do you want free show tickets?" Especially if you've just gotten to the hotel after getting off the plane...) It looks like myVegas is linked to MGM's players' club. I have a club card with them and the last time I was there, all my comps worked just fine, so the club itself I have no complaints about. But I don't do myVegas (because I don't have facebook). I did find this page with redemption info, so be sure you'll be able to do your redeeming for your rewards. I know that the Harrah's family of casinos has the total rewards app, and I think I had a couple of BOGO drink offers recently (but we're not going any time soon so I've mostly been ignoring the app). Where are you staying? And are you willing to define your budget?

I've used the myvegas rewards a couple times with no problem. If you do a late breakfast buffet, lunch items will start to be put out. We usually only need a small supper on buffet day.

You can find deals for food all over the place in Vegas. You can eat in oldtown Freemont Street for super cheap too.

Groupon is a great way to save in Vegas. So is My Vegas - I've redeemed several rewards with no problems. You have to play a lot to get the good rewards though.
I'm not much of a gambler, and I'm also always doing Vegas on a budget. When we go, I find it's actually just really fun to walk the strip, look at all the themed casinos, window shop, and just LOOK. Buffets are a cheap way to eat, and a lot of them are really good. Some of them are super pricey too. Just FYI. But I agree with what another person posted. Definitely go during breakfast or lunch hours - you'll save. Dinner often starts at 4, go at 3:30. Eat a lot, then grab a late night snack.
They also have kiosks on the strip, or you can ask at your hotel for discounted tickets. You don't get a good deal (or a ticket at all) for the big stuff like Cirque shows, or Celine or JLo sort of events. There are definitely cheap tickets for comedy shows, or things that aren't ask popular.
Have fun!

Our budget is as cheap as possible and maybe one night splurge. I am close to a BOGO dinner at the Aria buffet already. I set the game to auto spin and let it go. MyVegas has deals at the Aria, MGM, Bellagio, Mirage, Mandaly Bay, Luxor, Monte Carlo, so we will have some nice choices. We will definitely be going down to Fremont street, but that is all we know for sure. DH will be on his own for the day, he knows one day he just wants to go to the desert. He has never been to one and wants to experience the openess of it. Any ideas for activities or food would be more than welcome. Oh, and how not to look like a complete tourist.

Split a late breakfast at Hash Hash a Go Go. Their portions are HUGE, it can easily be done. There is one in The Rio.
ETA: we were 2 adults and 3 teens (17,16,14). We ordered three breakfasts and extra plates and set the food in the middle of the table and ate buffet style. We still left food behind.

Hiking Red Rock Canyon is free and very cool. Most parts of Hoover Dam are free, but you have to get there. There must be busses that go out there. Walk the strip, window shop, see the fountain... Don't poo poo the cheap shows--they are still fun. Gamble only with cash and set an amount and stick with it.

Take something with you to put under the door while you're in the room at the Rio. If you google the right way there are a lot of instances of people coming into the rooms while people are sleeping and helping themselves to whatever they want. They got us for electronics and cash totaling over $13,000 while we were sleeping. I'm not trying to completely freak you out, the percentage of people it happens to is very small and no hotel is completely safe, but be aware and be safe.

Know that Rio is off the strip and despite what it might look like on a map, it is really not walkable to the strip. There's a good bit of interstate in the way. There is a free shuttle from the Rio to Harrah's and I think there is also one that stops at Bally's. If you take a cab, it should be less than $20 to pretty much anywhere on the strip, at least at last summer's cab rates. For a free bit of entertainment, the Mirage has its volcano go off at I think 8, 9, and 10 nightly (I'm sure the schedule's on the website). Go early and get close. It's neat. Treasure Island has a pirate show (but I have never seen it-- it's on my list for next time). There's also a small aviary at the Flamingo with, well, flamingos. I wouldn't necessarily make a special trip over to see it but if you find yourself in the area and want to kill a little time, it's a sweet little walk through. You could check around for happy hour deals... half price appetizers, that sort of thing. Appetizers are great meals, sometimes better. Otherwise, I don't have any suggestions for cheap eats; we generally eat at various restaurants in the strip hotels. You can check out all the options on the hotels' websites though-- almost all of the places have menus up online. I personally would not worry too much about looking like a tourist... pretty much everyone on the strip is a tourist. Have lots of fun, and please do let us know how the myVegas stuff works out for you. I might be convinced to get facebook just for that.

Thanks for all the advice. So far I have enough points for a BOGO dinner buffet at the Aria. I did sign up and have a BOGO dinner at the Hash House also. That is 2 meals down. I had no choice on the hotel, it is where the training is and gives a special room rate and no daily resort fee. Since I will be at training and DH will be out and about we figured we may not have lunch together. He also felt that we can do a bigger breakfast, small lunch and a bigger supper, if that is when we can get the deals. StephDRebel thanks for the safety tip. I was reading up on some things and this is happening all over. I cannot imagine waking up to someone in my room, or waking up and realizing I slept through someone in my room. Too scary. I am so sorry you learned this the hard way.

My friend did this to me. She invited me on her free trip to Vegas. It was only after we were there that I learned it included a time share presentation. UGH. But, we did get free hotel and show. The joke was on them. They figured we were a couple--and were very disappointed to learn that she was a widow and I was still married....not to mention that neither of us gambled.
