Why? Oh why, do you need to send me an email survey asking how you are doing every time I shop at your store??!! Does anyone else think this has gotten out of control? What about the constant requests for surveys at the bottom of the receipts? So much competition to be the best. Stop wasting my time and yours begging for approval.
Sending receipts to my email when I have requested that they not do so, also drives me nuts. Why ask, if you are going to do it anyway? I tend to be picky about giving out my email address and unsubscribe to lots of unwanted emails. I ordered something from this store online earlier in the summer, so they had my email on file. In the past I have gotten unsolicited surveys from stores sent to my email, but addressed to my fil where he apparently shopped. I know he didn't give out my email because he was computer illiterate and didn't know my email address.
Vent over.

I have selective vision and cannot see surveys. I just ignore them. I also hate the ones that pop up right after you complete an online transaction.

As for giving out my email, I have a junk email on aol that I give to stores. I check it once a quarter so it stays active (log in/log out) I use it for online shopping and anyone I'm not sure I want to hear from regularly. So I don't see all the things stores send me.

I have an email address just for giving to stores (online and off). I just go in every week or so and delete everything without reading any of it. I never ever answer surveys.

yep. I have a separate email address that I give stores. Practically nothing comes to my real email unless its 1)people I want to hear from 2) a very, very select store list.

Ugh, I hate that.
We buy and have our vehicles serviced at the car dealership where my BIL is the general manager. The next time I see him I'm going to tell him how annoying I find all their surveys. Every time you take your car in for anything, they send multiple emails, call multiple times etc. I don't answer the calls. I do the email surveys sometimes just because I feel we should but it gets my goat.

We have had more than one car saleman at different dealerships tell us how important it is to do the follow up surveys and that if they are not perfect scores the company really comes down on them. What is the point of doing a survey?? I rarely do the surveys - it just annoys me that everyone wants a survey for everything now days.

I just delete ... no biggie That is my typical response. I was curious and wondered if others thought the amount of surveys was getting out of hand.

I don't do surveys anymore at all after I read an article that said it is just another way for these companies to gather information - about you! The internet is all-knowing and all-seeing. That creeps me out.

I don't mind email survey or receipt surveys because I can easily ignore them. I do despise when they call me to ask how their service was. The service may have been excellent, but they ruin it when they disturb me by calling me without permission. When the car dealer told me they would be following up with an important phone survey I told them not to. Of course they still called.

I just bought a couch, and didn't mind doing the first survey they sent me, because I was really, really happy with the delivery guys and was hoping I'd get a chance to report that back to the bosses.
But I just got an email from my sales person that they LOVED my survey feedback and could I please now go post on Google and Yelp? (Uh, that would be a nope.)
Generally, though, I just ignore surveys unless I have something I want to tell the company.

When I worked at the bank the surveys determined your bonus partially. If you weren't rated a 5 out of 5 for every question than it counted as a 0. So you could get all 4's but it counts as a 0. Most people only fill out surveys if they experience a problem.
I ignore most surveys myself & on the rare occasion I do one I assume the person's bonus is tied to it & fill it out accordingly.

Ugh I *hate* surveys from an employee viewpoint. I absolutely abhor that most companies use these as punitive measures against their employees. Most of the people who take the time to fill out a survey only do so when they are upset, so you are really only hearing from the customers who want to complain. Most of the time in my profession, the issue has nothing whatsoever to do with anything the employee directly did and more so has to do with company policies and staffing models completely out of the control of the actual customer facing employee. And the sample size is so small (at my work we process thousands of transactions every month but typically the survey size is only 4-5 a month) that one bad survey can really jack up your monthly service score, and too many months of those and your annual review is also impacted. The surveys really aren't an accurate description of customer service.

Before I even read these, I was going to say that survey results are almost definitely skewed because mostly only people unhappy with the service fill them out to complain. But how horrible to have them tied to employee potential earnings. That's just wrong.

I only answer surveys if I am unhappy with my experience. The one thing that I am willing to do is go online and leave a product review at the web site. Those reviews are very helpful for me so I don't mind doing that.
