My social media page is all in a dither the last few days about how 'they' are saying Jesus is coming back on September 23rd and how we should make sure that we're ready for it. My friends list has a lot of people that I've met through lots of places and well, some of them are interesting. I don't know how much I've shared about it here but I had a pretty interesting ubringing in the church and I won't call them a cult but we could say they took things to the extreme on a daily basis.
Today someone asked about the 23rd, someone else said "Nah" (we're also very well spoken in Southern Ohio ;0 ) and she said "Well what about all the signs??!?!?)
It struck me dh and I we were going through old newspapers the other day that the news was essentially the same every few years just about as far as we could go back "Omg, the weather is crazy, we've never seen anything like this' 'This communist is attempting to take over the world" "Our president is trying to kill us all dead and is really a spy"
It was literally the same thing with different headlines.....including that the Jesus was coming back. I remember having a picnic at church and then a sleepover waiting for the date in the (must have been late) 80's so we could all be together when he showed up and no one would be killed by our cars who had no drivers in the twinklin' of an eye.
We had a delicious church food supper (that fried chicken would have been a perfect last meal and the pie. Oh, the pie. These ladies baked like Jesus was coming and this was their last shot at the blue ribbon for the flakiest most delicious pie. Yum! ) and then we were soundly tucked into our sleeping bags in the Sunday school room for the last time ever.
Sadly, Jesus forgot to follow our schedule and our parents didn't plan breakfast because we were going to be feasting behind the pearly gates so we went to school hungry the next day.
Now, I've decided that since the Bible says no man will know....I'm going to eat breakfast, go about my day, and hope for a fun surprise each day.
What do you think? If you believe in Christ's return do you believe we going to figure out the great date before it happens? Do you think the date is the 23rd? Are you prepping? I don't know what prepping they think we should actually do except for getting our souls right but that probably shouldn't be put off until the last minute. Maybe they're making pie. Are y'all seeing this on social media too?

I haven't seen this at all on my social media. You'd think we'd be all over that here in the heart of the Bible belt, but I have a wide variety of friends, and no one seems panicked/excited/prepped. I heard a single mention on a podcast after the eclipse day prediction was wrong that this one was coming up soon.

Bad joke probably. 😁

Signs, Signs, All the Signs. As far as I can tell, someone made this crazy video, lots of people watched it and someone near me is taking it seriously and spreading the word.

the music in that video is really cool- as for the rest of it, what the heck?!?
eta: this, and the other similar videos, all look like previews for made-for-tv movies.

He told us we would not know the day nor the hour.
Whenever it happens I am ready by God's grace.
Tomorrow is as likely as this moment.

I think someone has given a date for the end of the world every year (sometimes more than one date) for more years than I can remember.

I've been hearing this, along with all the "signs" of proof, all my 60 years. If the second coming is happening soon, my bible thumping relatives (mostly in-laws) have missed the boat on this one because they haven't been posting about it. Then again, maybe they don't want me to know since I am the heathen of the group being an Episcopalian. If it's happening, I'm going to have to depend on ya'll to let me know.

I believe no man will know, certainly includes me. Ditto. I also think "If Jesus came back today, what would He find me doing?" I pray living for and glorifying Him!

A friend made a comment on FB about how since the world is ending on Saturday, she is just going to sit back and eat pie all day long. I had no idea what she was talking about. I thought it was some kind of reference to a Mayan end of world prediction or something like that. Lol!

Now I have that song in my head: "I wish we'd all been ready" - and I just discovered it was remade in 2014. Because that 1970s version wasn't traumatic enough! When I was a kid, our group at school was really relieved that our Jewish friend agreed to take the mark so we could buy food when we were all left behind. We were, like, 10? And the old movie version promised beheadings if you wouldn't take the mark....and this kept me up worrying many, many nights. Anyway, I'll wager no for this Saturday. And if you are somehow left behind, I'll help with groceries if you don't want to take the mark. Because of Experian, that time might be right around the corner.

So which is it? Jesus is coming or the world's ending? I see both things being referenced. Jesus already came once and the world didn't end then. Why would a second coming equal the world's ending?
I'm an atheist as well. While I've studied different religions in my search, I don't remember all the stories/theories. I tend to believe the verse that says no man will know more than the numerous "the world's ending on this date" crap.

Oh no. My house is a mess w/boxes everywhere in preparation for a kid moving away to college. I don't have anything baked, because you should always have a coffee or pound cake in the freezer for company. I am mortified.

I have seen a few things about this. It seems that the dates of the two hurricanes to hit the US can be manipulated to point to a bible verse about the end of the world. Supposedly, there is a mystery planet/asteroid/other astral body that is going to hit us. The fact that no scientist or even amateur astronomer has seen it or any evidence is irrelevant. Jesus already came once and the world didn't end then. Why would a second coming equal the world's ending? There are references in the bible to Jesus coming again for the Last Judgement, which will mean the end of the world.

My daughter told me about it and that the world would end because some planet no expert had seen would hit the earth. I laughed so hard I almost couldn't drive. Here's my philosophy: If the bible says "no man knows" that means that if someone is predicting a certain day is The Day, then we can all relax because that day is now completely off the table.
