Hey everyone! So dh and I went with a couple of friends to a beer fest/Octoberfest last night ... sounds fun right? Not when you are the only person in the huge venue that isn't drinking Seriously, it wasn't that bad but I got bored by about 11pm because I was only drinking water Dh and our friends had a great time and we knew one guy in the band so it was fun overall ... I'm just a whiner but at least everyone got home safe because of me I have a coffee meetup with some ladies from my group this afternoon ... I'll hit the grocery store after and decide what we will eat tonight Here's dh and me at Octoberfest Sorry it so flipping big!!! What is on your menu tonight?

Whatever it is it will involve going to the store again. I am thinking chicken something. DS wasn't sure if she would like Japanese food so chicken is pretty safe. If I am home all afternoon long I will roast tomatoes with balsamic and olive oil. Salad and broccoli. Maybe I will make rice for a change.

Being the only one who isn't drinking, is seldom fun.....
Rain, rain, rain......but we took DD for a walk, had cake for lunch while DS had a "russebuss"meeting. Now I'm just relaxing in my favourite chair. I probably SHOULD do something, but I don't want to! I made dinner though (sweet chili chicken, hasselback potatoes and a salad).

Great picture of you two leannec ! I don’t think I’ve seen you with your hair down! Dh is going to watch football and requested game food gain. I’m repeating the marinated steak tips I made last week and also making southwestern baked egg rolls I found on Pinterest. I will also grill a foil packet of green beans because I love them and we should eat a vegetable!,

Grilled salmon and vegetables for us tonight. DH won't care much for the veggies, so I'm probably going to need another side of some kind.

I am being lazy and making frozen pizza tonight. The weather has turned ugly outside - friends who are at Oktoberfest have just posted that several rides were struck by lightning just a few minutes ago, and that weather will reach me in about 5 minutes, so I'm not venturing out to SnB.

miominmio, stay in that comfortable chair! It's Sunday! Cute picture leannec! I'm not sure what's for dinner here. We often just fend on Sunday nights because our schedule is off (i.e. there is no schedule on a Sunday.) I did look ahead at my week and realized that I won't be home for dinner until Thursday! I checked to see that we are stocked up on nacho and sandwich fixings. Those are DH's go to when I'm not home. I also have Beef Stroganoff in the IP right now. Although I won't be making dinner anytime soon, I'll still be checking in. This thread is SO much more than dinner, right?

Maybe some baked chicken thighs. Not sure yet. I need to get movitivated and decide what I'm going to scrapbook at my semi-annual crop in Sutter Creek. Less than 3 weeks away! Since I live an hour away now, I get to go a day early and help set up.

BFF wants to go for coffee but I need to get the tomatoes in the oven. She didn't give me a time she wanted to go so I am kind of in limbo as the tomatoes take at least 2 hours to cook. I still need to go to the store. I should have gone while I was out earlier. I am going to text DS and see if he will be home. Probably not.

The IP spaghetti turned out perfect last night and made lots so we'll be having leftovers with some garlic bread. I think we still have peaches to eat up from the freezer so that's dessert.

Ok plans have changed. It's sukiyaki for dinner tonight. I bought enoki mushrooms for DS as he likes them. I am not sure if his friend likes them or not. I will let majority rule. I got some really thinly sliced beef, tofu (medium firm), beansprouts, Chinese cabbage (hakusai), clear noodles, udon and the mix to make it in (I am not a scratch cooker I am afraid). I think it will be good, though.
I bought chicken and salad for tomorrow. I just have to get lunch food tomorrow afternoon so back to the store I go!

Left Napa and just checked into our hotel in Lake Tahoe. I'm really tired and there's a cocktail party then dinner with dh's clients. No other spouses came so I may bail on the dinner. I don't even know what the cuisine is.

I'm cooking cheeseburger pie at this very moment and it's later than I care to eat, but when you're working with a 3 day headache, you get what you get.

Just got home about 30 minutes ago from college drop off. It didn't hit me until I walked into the kitchen and there wasn't any sign of yds. He likes his roommate who seemed like a nice guy to us, as well. That's a huge relief. Thank goodness for texting. I know I can't go see him for a few weeks, so that he can get settled, but man this is hard. He should be here watching football and laughing w/us. I got home and there was a box of tissue w/a note written on it from my ods. It said, "For Mom. I figured you'd need this". He comes by his sarcasm naturally. :-) Next year I will have an empty nest. Oh well. One box of Kleenex at a time.
Dinner will be a fend night. Dh has half of his breakfast from this am and ds will grab Subway. My other ds will be eating in the dining common. Sigh.

I felt bad when I dropped him off as I couldn’t help him carry stuff with my ankle. I was telling my DD it was harder than when she went as I still had someone to parent here so I didn’t feel it as much. I didn’t cry at all with DS but the whole feeling was odd with them all away. I sort of felt less useful. Well just have to form a support group to get us thru.

It's a cross between feeling like we've abandoned them and feeling happy for them and then feeling sad, etc. What if he needs something? What if he's sad? All of those feelings come up for us. We just have to remind ourselves that this isn't pre-school drop off. This is adult college drop off and if we raised them correctly they should flourish.

So dh and I went with a couple of friends to a beer fest/Octoberfest last night ... sounds fun right? As a non drinker that sounds like my worst nightmare!! I did so much cooking yesterday for DS's birthday dinner (and also playing around with my Thermomix) that I really can't be bothered cooking tonight. This is what I have made in the Thermomix so far: Berry sorbet (I think sorbet is the first thing everyone makes lol) mashed potato (they were a bit lumpy, I think I cut the pieces a bit too big) a loaf of bread (it's not like a bread maker, you use the Thermomix to mix and knead, then cook it in the oven) tuna dip chocolate mousse chocolate fudge frosting pancake mix Today I am going to make a batch of vegetable stock paste. It keeps for several months in the fridge and is used in a lot of the Thermomix recipes (soups and curries etc). I'm also going to make some watermelon sorbet. I bought the watermelon yesterday, just had to wait for it to freeze.

Copycat Alice Springs chicken, vegetables (yellow squash, snow peas, and broccoli), and mashed potatoes for SO. I'm curious to know what this is. Alice Springs is a town in the outback, in the middle of Australia. ETA: I just googled it. Duh, it's a dish from Outback Steakhouse! It looks really good, I'm going to try that one. Although Monterey Jack cheese isn't readily available here. The only place I've been able to buy it (and other American cheeses) is at Costco.
