I can`t even bring myself to name my most disliked song, it is about leaving a cake out in the rain and hearing it makes me want to be sick.

70s on 7 is one of my favorites. I don't mind the crazy songs.

We listen to it occasionally and recently "Seasons in the Sun" came on. My 14 year old was like: "this was on the regular radio? Who wants to become depressed when they are listening to the radio?" I had forgotten about that song - it's the most melancholy thing ever. I have Seasons in the Sun on my iPod And worse, I also have Billy Don't be a Hero I do NOT have any of the other songs mentioned though <whew> When I was in Middle School, we were required to sing that for the High School graduation. Every year that I was in Middle School, weeks of practicing 'Seasons in the Sun". Weeks. Now it's in my head again! Make it stop! Goodbye to you my trusted friend....

I was listening, too, and heard that awful song! I had forgotten that it existed and now it's an ear worm.

This thread might explain why our grandson chose to ride with his dad recently, not us. He said we listen to weird music. He's 9.

Holy cow. That song hit #1? Haha! Don't be so judgy. . Lot's of 70's songs were ridiculous. I think if a song could help you shake what your momma gave you, you were in.

Well how about the hair song? I mean who makes up a song about hair??? Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair Flow it, show it, long as God can grow it, my hair Well, to be fair, that song was written for the musical “Hair” which was about the late nights 60’s/early 70’s young adult counter-culture. Long hair being seen as an anti-War/Pro-love statement. I grew up listening to the soundtrack- my parents went to see it live. Yes, showing my age, we sang it in elementary choir production. ETA, I recognize and now have a few ear worms from all on this thread except Disco Duck. Happy I had to look it up to remember!

I remember we (my girl cousins and I) made up a dance to that song, all dramatic and stuff. LOL.

One of the best songs in the history of ever. Maybe you just had to be there. People were streaking across football fields all over this great land and that song just summed it all up in one laughable track. I was innocently listening to Stevie Nicks, then bam! Disco Duck. I was caught unprepared. Yeah. It happened to us back in the 70's too.

i listen to 70's on 7 too and always wonder why Sirius doesn't have a dedicated Disco channel? or do they? it just seems weird that they have every other genre out there but Disco. not 70's songs, but pure Donna Summer, Saturday night fever, Bee Gees disco. They most certainly do have a channel devoted to the Disco age. Studio 54 radio...I forget what channel it is. I love all of these old, quirky songs. I must've been listening at the same time as OP this morning because I too heard Disco Duck and eldest DD was in the car with me and I wouldn't let her get out until she heard the duck. LMAO Here's a song not yet mentioned. The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Every time I hear it (or any other song telling a true story) I tell the kids "shhhh...listen to the lyrics...a true story"

The other songs my 14 year old can't believe were hits are "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree" (her snark: "what was this, the 1870s?"), "I am Woman" (we had a nice long talk about the women's movement) and "Run Joey Run." You should tell her to remember this moment when she has a 14 year old. The 1870's!

Didn't notice The Streak mentioned earlier. My husband is a huge Ray Stevens fan. The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is another favorite. DS really likes it. It gives me the chills every time I hear it (which used to be a lot-it was on our last playlist).

I take what I can get though, and scroll through if they're playing stupid shit. HAHA! (and every time Donna Summer comes on and anyone is in the car with me, I shout out "Queen of the Disco". I hope one day when I'm gone, the kids remember some of this stuff, think of me, and get a smile on their face)

Memories of just how much we mocked Disco back in the day came streaming suddenly back. Ah, the '70's.

Smokin in the Boys Room - played at Jr High graduation (I don't think it was intentional, but certainly came off as "we're free" - for 3 months until high school); Billy Don't be a Hero - still on my iPod and yes, know all the words; Indian Reservation by Paul Revere & the Raiders (geez talk about dating myself) Disco Duck was by Rick Dees who was our local #1 DJ - every.single.morning it got played on the radio. He loved himself just as much as the song. He hung in there until Ryan Seacrest decided he wanted that job too. My personal faves were Wildfire (also horse obsessed) and Undercover Angel. And anything from Saturday Night Fever! Man it was all so innocent and bubble-gum! My parents gave me a graduation trip to England after HS and Donna Summer was all the rage - nothing like being in a dance club, introduced to drinking, and listening to a never ending (seriously never ending) version of I Feel Love! good times

I love every damn song listed in this thread! LOL My husband listens to Ozzy's Boneyard but as soon as I climb in the truck, he automatically changes it to the 70's channel. And then he enjoys a concert by me. Singing every song that comes on. I am sure he LOVES it on long trips.

Then there's my brother who sings: We had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun Till the cops came with a gun and they shot me in the buns. Goodbye my friend it's hard to die When all the birds are eating pumpkin pie.

How about Blind Man in the Bleachers? Made my husband listen to it once when it came on during a car ride - he's just enough younger than me that he'd never heard it. End of the song, and he was all like "The old guy DIED? All that time going to the damn games and his son finally plays and the old guy is DEAD! What a terrible song!" So then we started listing all the depressing songs from the 70's and it kept us busy all the way to our destination
