She's in emergency vet care overnight. My husband left a bag of rat poison where our 45 pound husky could reach it and, of course, she did. It's the TomCat kind that is a good tasting neurotoxin. It looks like she ingested most of a bag. They induced vomiting and gave her an enema to get it out of her system. They've given her charcoal and fluids. Has anybody had a dog who got into poison and what was your experience? I'm really worried about her.
************************
Thanks so much for sharing your encouragement and success stories. Lily had a good night at the emergency vet and we took her to our vet for observation. They made her throw up again and there were still blocks of poison in her system. That's not good, but she hasn't had any seizures yet. We'll pick her up and watch her for the rest of the week until she's out of the woods.
************************* Final update Lily has been home for a day and is doing great. She was pretty listless for a bit. We're still supposed to watch for symptoms, but so far so good. Thanks for the virtual "hand-holding" during this ordeal. Over and out unless something bad happens.
Thanks again!

Bless your heart. I had a little 15 lb mini schnauzer that ate 50 ibuprofen tablets. She received similar treatment as your pup, and she was fine. I'm sending up a prayer for your and your fur baby.

Oh no. Glad you got her to the vet right away. Hopefully you gave them what kind of poison it was. My Golden ate mouse poison ( cuz he's an "eat first, think later" kind of dog)when he was staying with my mom while we were on vacation. She called me in a panic. I told her to call the vet right way and they took him and ultimately he ended up on a vitamin K regamine for about 60 days to bring his levels back. So that depends on what kind of poison it was. He was ok . Never had any problems. But it's good getting to the vet ASAP in such a situation AND knowing what exactly they ingested.
{ Hugs to you }

We had a dog eat poison as well. I was actually in the hospital after having our first child. DH came home to shower and check on things. He just happened to notice something blue on the corner of our dog's mouth. He ran her to our vet... luckily just a few miles away. The induced vomiting and gave vitamin K. She went on to live many more years with no long term effects, but never dug under the lattice on our porch where she got into it again.
eta- it was tomkat chunks... but no idea how much she ingested.

Hang in there! Odds are good that your pup will be okay since she received medical attention right away and is being watched overnight, but I'll say a little prayer for her (and you!) anyway! Hugs!

They both were made to throw up, given charcoal, then vitamin K at home. Turns out one had eaten poison and the other ate the plastic housing it was in. We did have to quarantine them until the vitamin K was finished. Hugs! I know this is very scary!

We had a dog we called Max the boozie goat chow. There was nothing he wouldn't eat or drink the second you turned your back. We spent plenty of worried nights with him at the vet. That dog got into more crap as an adult, than my twin nephews did as toddlers, and they were a handful. Lots of hugs and prayers.

I think with the proper treatment she's getting she will be fine. I also had a husky that ate a tray of rat poison that the town had put down (our old senile neighbor was burning his garbage in his backyard; so sad). She seems to have had the same treatment as your girl and she had pills to take for a week but ended up perfectly fine. I'll be praying !
