I don't have kids, and haven't had a mum since 1992. I love seeing all the TX craziness! 😁

My daughter was just asked to Homecoming so now I need to make a mum, she told me no. What??? We are in SE Texas, we do mums! She said kids don't wear them to the game anymore and the dance is formal.
I think I'll make a mum for myself.

ETA Is no mum a new trend or just my dd's school?

Maybe it depends on where you are? I have a friend who's daughter had a mum with a strap. It was wider than her body. It's insane! If I can crop her face out of her pic, I'll post it.

I was like "Why is she spelling mom the British way?" Share your mums ladies! I think they're great!

I posted on FB last week that it had just occurred to me that, with both girls attending an arts high school with no football team, I’d probably never have to make a mum!

People make mums for their own daughters? In all 4 years DD was in high school (Houston), her mums always came from the florist. I don't know a single person who made them. That was a good thing for DD because I'm pretty sure I would have sucked at mum making.

I feel like I just stepped into an alternative universe. What are you people actually talking about and why are they a big deal?

Ah, homecoming mums! One of the many things I learned about on the old board. I had NO idea mums were a thing. We don't do that up north!

I don't think any real flowers are involved in these Homecoming Mums **GypsyGirl** . There were never real flowers in the mums when DD was in high school (graduated 2006). Not that it would have mattered because any mum I made, real or fake, would have not been fit to be seen in public! mom - I looked up those mum rings and think they are cute! I also noticed a few that were done as wrist corsages. That's a trend I could go for as well. I wore wrist corsages to all my proms/dances in high school and college. So much more practical than a regular corsage - or a mum the size of Texas that inhibits normal movement!

Texas * Homecoming * Enormous Mum Corsages Definitely an alternative universe! I Goggled them after I posted. I get that they are for Homecoming, but some of them are so huge and over the top (several teddy bears). What do you actually do with them? Do you carry them at the dance? I'm a midwestern girl and we just wore a small wrist corsage (years ago).

My only exposure to these has been 2peas. It's tradition for me now and I look forward to these each fall! I'm excited to see these pictures!!
Are mums completely overboard? Probably! But they also look like really good clean fun, and they bring out the spirit of homecoming in these kids. I love it.

Do you carry them at the dance? I'm a midwestern girl and we just wore a small wrist corsage (years ago). There really is no purpose. Just like boutineres and corsages serve no real purpose other than decoration. I think they're just a way for the kids to highlight their personalities, hobbies, sports, etc.

Step into Hobby Lobby and see all the mum-making supplies (well, they're probably gone by now, but they were strongly in evidence a month or two ago). It's for the best, really - I'm more of an Amazon Prime mom than a Pinterest mom, so mum making would have been stressful! (I'll keep in mind that you can buy one at a florist, just in case one of the girls is invited to another school's homecoming.)

I was shopping in a small town in Oklahoma last week and they were making gigantic mum corsages for homecoming. They were using artificial mums. They said they had tried to bring back the real mums last year, but it didn't go over well.
I attended my high school reunion ten years' ago and they were still selling real mums with very little ornamentation added for homecoming. They look just like the ones we wore in the '70s and ours looked like the ones worn in the '50s. I love that tradition.
When I lived in Texas a lady behind me in Hobby Lobby had a cart full of mum making supplies. I asked her if she had several daughters and she said no, she was making mums for all the mothers on her son's football team!

being from the midwest this whole mum thing is so bizarre to me (even though I've heard about them for years here) Here, these are Mums: And here's what's worn to prom (small school, no flowers for homecoming):

Ah, homecoming mums! One of the many things I learned about on the old board. I had NO idea mums were a thing. We don't do that up north! Me too. We did homecoming mums, but they were just one or two flowers with a ribbon and the sales benefited the booster club or something. I had no idea what Texas HC mums were until 2peas!
