My sister (in NY/LI) found a baby kitten that appears to be about 3 or 4 weeks old tonight. No one else would take the kitten, so my sister took the kitten home for now.
QUICK QUESTION: It's 12:30 am, and she wants to know what to do. She's keeping it warm until morning, and keeping it separated from her 2 year old rescue cat until she knows it's healthy. Where could she get kitten formula this time of night??? Will the kitten be okay without food until morning???
Any advice is appreciated. We all have only had kittens that were 12+ weeks old. I did adopt one who was only 5 weeks old, but she was already eating dry kitten food (with a little water in it).
TIA!!

Thanks! Good idea!!!!! We're both not thinking clearly right now! All she could think of was keeping it safe and warm. She made a little litter box with shredded newspaper, but didn't know what else to do. DD29 took care of 2 week old kittens and we had to feed them every few hours with kitten formula and a dropper. Their chances weren't too good........... I hope this one is okay and she could keep it. Thanks for the advice. I'll tell her to call one!

Our local Walmart sells KMR which is the kitten replacement milk. If the cat is actually 3-4 weeks old it should do ok with some canned food she can pick up anywhere. Personally I wouldn't want one that small to go all night without food.
The youngest I had was a 10 day old orphan kitten. We've had several that were around 4 weeks old and they weren't too much more difficult to take care of than an 8 week old.
Good luck to your sister and thanks for trying to save the little guy!

Thank you so much! I didn't know that! DD29 was trying to Facetime with her to assess how old the kitten is. Looks to be about 4 weeks or so. She wanted to try to see in its mouth to see more, but it was sleeping and didn't want to be touched. I already gave her your info, tinaev, so, thanks! She has canned food for her 2 year old cat, I'm sure.......

The extra scent can entice them to eat.

Walmart has the formula, if her location is open late.

Thanks, all! She's talking to a foster-kitty place now and they're advising her. Phew! I'll check on her in the morning. I figured I'd rush to the Peas and ask because it's always hopping here! Thanks so much! Nite!

My cat Celia was about 2/3 weeks old when she was abandoned and only weighed 230g. I kept her in a box with some furry ears (costume) from 11 in the morning till 5pm when I could get her to a vet.
We got some powdered feed designed for wildlife and fed her with a teat pipette every 3 or 4 hours. That said, we fed her at midnight and she didn't seem to wake until 6 am so no middle of the night feeds for us!
All our other rescue cats had mothers who had weaned them so it was a big surprise when the vet told me we would need to "toilet" her after feeding. (rubbing her tummy/genitals with a warm cloth until she went) She learnt to use a tray within a few weeks.
Celia is about to turn 7 and is very healthy. Good luck to this little kitten.
