My thought is that each week (or month) we would pick one recipe each that we have never made. You have to make it according to directions (no subbing items). Then you come back here and post an honest review including what you might do differently next time. Also you could talk about what kind of eaters the people you cooked for are (picky, adventurous, meat and potatoes, vegetarian).
Anybody interested?

Well, I have at least one new recipe on my list to try soon. Is changing the recipe SIZE gonna be okay? Two of us cannot eat a 9x13 casserole.

I would love that. You could start a thread like the monthly crafting thread and if someone wants to do a weekly new recipe they could and if someone wants to only do monthly they could also.

I am constantly browsing Pinterest for new recipes, so this would be great to get me past browsing and on to cooking!

I might be interested depending on the ease of the recipe I could be wrong, but I took the OP to mean everyone just pick something you haven't made and then come share... not that we're going to all try the same recipe.

There was a "try a new recipe" weekly thread for awhile and I really enjoyed it. I would love to see it make a comeback!

I'm in and will try anything. In fact, the further out of my comfort zone the better. My lot will eat almost anything especially if it has rice. We make homemade sushi occasionally when I spring for sushi grade fish otherwise we make "fake" sushi with smoked salmon or seared tuna. One recipe that went over really well was Korean beef, that we eat in Bibimbap form...wait for it...over rice! My kids are dying to make a Cherpumple. I can contribute 1001 pasta and salad recipes.

I love the idea too!!
AussieMeg Thanks for doing the thread before! I must have missed it, or not been Peaing very much at the time.
Not sure if the OP meant everyone try the same recipe (w/ no subs) or everyone post a recipe and try it and report back.
With so many tastes, I can see it working better if people choose their own recipe and report back.
We could also add our food to the "AKathy's What's for Dinner" Thread too. I get tons of ideas from that one.
I love the idea of a separate "Recipe Challenge"

I would definitely be up for this if we could pick our own recipes I don't know if I could participate every week if we had to all cook the same thing ... The AKathy's What's For Dinner ladies know that both of my dd's are picky

That sounds like fun! I'm so stuck in a rut right now, I need to try something new. The 'no substituting' part will be the hardest part for me I really tend to wing it with dinner recipes. Can I substitute in recipes that call for cilantro? It ruins a meal for me, and so many recipes call for it. LOL, I'm trying to change the rules already.

I try new recipes all the time and love this idea. However, I have a dd with some food issues and I have to substitute. She's been on an elimination diet and we still haven't added all the foods back in - some we haven't gotten to and some we've had to take out again, but are extremely happy with the ones she has been able to include again. Sounds fun though. LeaP, I make sushi too. I usually just do the crab rolls as I can get crab locally. For sushi grade fish, I need my dh to bring it from where one of the places he works 2 hours away. For that it's just easier to have him bring home sushi. But I do sushi styled bowls for dd with seared tuna, crab, or even chicken pieces. She loves them. I've decided to try to make unagi (eel & eel sauce) sometime soon. Maybe for New Years. It's always been her favorite as well as the rest of the family's (except me), but it has gluten which she can't have if we're out.

I like this idea. But is subbing gluten free pasta for regular pasta or GF flour for wheat flour considered a sub? If yes, that’s going to be harder for me to find a recipe but I think I can still do it.

Unagi is pretty easy if you buy the pack of it at the Japanese grocery store. It comes cooked and seasoned. Now if you were going to start from scratch with an eel, I'd be asking you for a thousand photos. I have only cooked eel once and it turned out more rubbery than any octopus or squid you could image. You are lucky you can get crab locally. I'm jealous. SaveSave

I haven’t checked to see if dh can get eel at any time from the fish mongers yet either. I’ll let you know how it turns out
