Everyone has been creating such great things! I finished the wedding quilt and then spent the next week putting my house back together (anyone else have to do this after marathon sewing/crafting sessions?). This past week was spent at the International Quilt Festival here, taking classes and just absorbing all the talent that was on display. Also spent some time celebrating the Astros win, as we were staying across the street from the ball park. We were up until 2 am, out in the streets with what seemed like half of Houston. Who says old quilters can't have fun! 😉 I took an all day class with Kaffe Fassett that involved working with color. It was a great class and I really learned quite a bit. Started with the required 15 fabrics and ended up adding another 9 and not using all I started with. Turns out not all large scale prints are created equal! All we worked on was placement of our fabrics on our design wall. Now I have to work on sewing it all together. ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171105/5341694330fe48c3197992702ae95fb0.jpg) This week I will start on the baby quilt that is cut out. I'm excited to get this one done because I think it is going to be really cute. The baby arrived Oct. 1, so there is no real pressure to finish, but I'd like to have it done by Thanksgiving. I also need to get going on my Christmas gifts. Hard to believe it is already November (and still in the upper 80's here! ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/G0Qxztyjs53n1ic_fEBG.jpg) ).

There's some ideas here Caron cakes for the Caron cakes, I think they look quite similar. I had a shufty round Aldi this afternoon and they barely had any yarn left ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg) The rainbow was not in 'my' colourways unfortunately. I did get two cross stitch kits (the unicorn one and a merry christmas one) and two boxes of washi tape though Save

I'm just back home from a Holiday Quilt Retreat in historic Old Salem, Winston-Salem, NC. Three days and nights of nothing but sewing all you want (and meals, and snacks, and yapping, etc.)! I didn't finish my Christmas quilt top, but I'm 2/3 of the way there. I did have a great time, though.

My name is Flute, and I bought 2 Big Cakes last night. The sky has fallen Welcome to the dark side! I actually really like working with the Caron Cakes, but unfortunately the color change does not look good with all patterns, you have to make sure to pick a suitable one. I really like the newer more muted colors and I can't wait to get my hands on some of those 'tea cake' ones.

lainey That is gorgeous! Nicely done, and I love the color choices too. I made the tail and crown for my Halloween costume last week. I decided to be Max from Where the Wild Things Are. I thought it would be easier to sit outside in a warm costume vs. trying to beat two dogs who are currently quicker than me to the door every time the bell rings! I bought the white PJs with feet and a hood from Amazon, and just had to successfully sew the tail and crown doing the foot pedal for the sewing machine with my left foot, LOL. I also decided to host a couple friends to come over and scrapbook a couple weekends from now. I already warned them that the house will be a mess but I’ll do what I can to clean up the scrap room for them before they come. I don’t think I’ve made a single page in over a year. Not sure what I’m going to work on but I have 11 days to figure it out! I cannot knit or crochet but I do love making my own Halloween/ Bookweek costumes! I made my Max costume from scratch ( onesie I bought was too tight!) added claws to the hand and feet bits and big fake buttons down the front. I made the crown from gold cardboard with fur and sewed on some fake fur for the tail. My favourite book and my favourite costume ever! If I knew how to post a photo I would! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) I would love to see your finished costume. Corinne

Made this bag for my daughter. It was hard. I won't lie. Took a long time and made a few mistakes. I never used my seam ripper on any project more than I have this one. But she loves it. The fabric is disney (mickey silhouettes) from Joann's. Purse pattern is Blanche from Swoon. http://instagr.am/p/BbT1etrlwxx

I don't need nor want fabric. Except if it silk, cotton, modal, rayon, some polyesters, or wool. Especially silk though as I like the challenge of using silk. I love the feel of it in my hands as I sew it!

I've just succumbed to this pattern which is currently on discounted sale at Ravelry and Etsy. www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/wintery-octagon-mandala I know I won't be even considering making it for a long while but I can see some great possibilities for it. I think I would like a blanket in a soft beige overlaid with cream or an icy blue overlaid in white. I quite like the idea of making Christmas place mats too. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

I bought the Hotel of Bees pattern last night but I can't decide which yarn colours to use. Scheepjes stone washed I like the Peridot, Larimar and Axinite together I'm just not sure if they're a bit wishy-washy. I normally go for a lot of colour and choosing three is hard ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

I think the Peridot would be quite a bright green. I just bought some stonewashed and the Axinite is a light creamy beige. If you like greens, then the Canada Jade, New Jade and Axinite look good together, the New Jade is bit more green than it looks on the website. or of you like the blues, then probably Turquoise & Larimar with moonstone in the middle.
I'd probably do Yellow Jasper then Axinite and finish with Boulder Opal.

These are the colours I've decided on, thank you Good choice! The Moonstone is more of a true cream with no brown in it so I think it will work better with blues than the Axinite. Can't wait to see your pictures when you start. I love the Stonewashed it's so pretty, every time I order from WW I get a few more skeins of it...I plan to do a larger Frida's Flowers in it at some stage. I haven't had much time to crochet recently, I have a friend coming to stay for a few days and we have a few outings planned and then back to work so no time in the next week either. This is the friend I made the Lily Pond for, so it will be fun to see her face when she sees it for the first time (well she's seen a picture on line of the original, but she hasn't seen the actual one I made as yet).

That being said I can see this blanket not being an immediate favorite but one that grows on you to become much loved. I am not even sure what makes me say that. It's just a feeling I got when I saw it.

Would using a different pattern have made you like it more? You did a wonderful job crocheting it. I am wondering if it's the pattern maybe? (Grasping at straws here...)

I just don't know what I don't care for with this one PLurker and Delta Dawn. It's a gift so it'll be on its way to its destination tomorrow. I just think I've done so many different ones over the years that this one just doesn't do it for me.

What would put me off using this yarn is the abrupt colour changes but now I think about it, I had a couple of sweaters in the, ahem, 1960s, that were all the rage and also had abrupt changes and I absolutely loved them. Would you like this more with a frilly border in just one of the colours, maybe the darkest?
