So last year was the FIRST year I watched the Hallmark movies. I was decorating cookies and wanted to watch something "christmasy". Totally sucked in. They're ALL the same which should make it easier to walk away but apparently not. DH threatened to cancel cable after catching me watching them last weekend.

where she is the doctor who moves to Alaska I actually liked that one! I'll have to look for it to record it...

I've been recording them to watch when all of the TV shows go into rerun. I love me a cheesy Christmas movie. I actually had moved to a TV package that didn't include Hallmark Channel, but I added it back for the holidays.

I love them! They are so cheesy and ridiculous! I love how they all take place in a small town with no discernible industry other than being a Christmas destination. However, the protagonist owns her own business, usually a flower shop or a travel agency, yet she lives in this gigantic house on acres of land! And the carolers - they show up everywhere! Going for a stroll down Main Street on Tuesday afternoon? We have carolers for that! HA HA HA HA Yup. This. And if she can save the farm/factory/diner/newspaper that she unexpectedly inherited, it's even better. I know!! I find the mind numbing lay cheesy. I only watch the ones with Candace Cameron Bure where she is the doctor who moves to Alaska and the one where she takes over the ski chalet for her father's company and falls in love with the son. So I saw both of these and I did like them. I thought they were better than the one I saw this weekend - Miss Christmas, which just annoyed the heck out of me. I think I like the ones with the people with whom I grew up - CCB, Lacey Chabert and Lori Loughlin. She was in one last year I liked as well. I think the movies are moving away from the stupid misunderstandings, so I appreciate that. But come on! The dialogue is just awful!!

I mean, seriously? Can you really make a living IN CHICAGO as a Christmas tree buyer and lighting ceremony planner and be able to afford that really nice place she was living in? I really like Brooke D'Orsay when she was on Drop Dead Diva and Royal Pains, so I know she can do better! The love interest was a hottie though!

I always tell DH I should work for Hallmark movies as a continuity expert. Their falls ones with pumpkins: there are no actual vines and the plants are tiny. A vine for one pumpkin takes up a huge amount of space!
For Christmas, the fake snow really needs work. And the product placement shots are so bad. One year, every movie had a close up of a glasses case that said "Visionworks" on it.
I'm happy to up and move for this job position and to basically live the holidays all year long. Preferably housed in one of those massive Victorian's or cool lofts the heroine always lives in.

Love them, but they drive me crazy because they always depress me because the mom or dad (usually the mom) passed away. And the spouse falls in love and remarries. They all seem to have the same story line. If they were all different, I would like them better.
But I still watch them..

There are always a few stinkers in the bunch every year, but I'm a fan. I just love it when that plucky heroine lands in a small town, gets some great pie and coffee (not to mention a few new friends) at the local diner, falls in love with a sexy, single veterinarian, and learns the true meaning of Christmas. I'm in the 'I can watch a few' category. I love Christmas movies, which is surprising, since I hate Christmas music But I tend to watch the classics. Though I now also consider The Family Stone a Christmas movie that I enjoy. I used to love Christmas music, but most of the "oldies" (meaning 80s) stations play all Christmas from mid Nov until Christmas. I am so tired of Christmas music by Dec. Even though I boycott those stations once they start Christmas music, I still hear the songs as I go through my stations. And the stores start playing them so early. But I love Christmas movies! It's been so warm and sunny this fall (so opposite of the usual cool and rainy Pittsburgh fall) that I still have my shorts out and don't want to put up the tree for at least a month.

I don't watch these but might have to give this one a try

I like to watch them to escape the reality of the world and I only watch them on the weekends. Last weekend I was watching an older one that I had never seen and my dh came into the room and sat down. He asked "why are you re-watching this?" I said "I haven't seen this one." (Which I truly had not seen). He said "Yes you have, this is the one where...blah blah blah" He was freaking right, except the part about me already seeing it! LOL I want to know how many he has watched that I haven't seen! The only thing I can think is he's either closet watching them in his shop or he had watched it with my dd a couple years ago. Made me laugh picturing him sitting in his "Man Cave" watching Hallmark Christmas movies and having one of his buddies show up and catch him in the act. He'd lose his man card forever!

I don't mind them, but DH loves them. We cancelled cable awhile back, next thing I know a few weeks ago he's signing us back up. Why? so he can watch his Hallmark Christmas movies.
We are only a week or so into them and I'm over them already...LOL

I forgot about the one where the moms all go on strike the month of December. The meet at the one lady's knitting shop to arrange it. It's ok too.

I love them. Watching one right now.
I love them because:
They get me into the Christmas mood. For several years it seemed like there was so much Christmas prep to do that I couldn't slow down and enjoy the season. Watching cheesy movies helped my mood. Then the kids got older and Christmas changed. The excitement lessened and some of the magic disappeared. Silly, light movies help get me excited a little.
They require zero brain cells. I can grade papers, make presents, clean, etc. and not have to think a bit about the plot. No subtle symbolism, no mysteries to solve, no subtitles to read.
They are completely predictable. I know what is going to happen so if something that is actually important comes up, I can leave the movie and not wonder what I missed.
They're completely appropriate. I don't know if there are even any PG rated ones. I could watch them and not worry about the kids walking in or hearing colorful language.

I hadn't really ever watched any until last year's Election Day Hysterectomy (right before going under, I asked all of the health care professionals if they had voted), then I just left it on one of the channels and dozed off and on for a few weeks.
The only ones I remember specifically are the one where a boy helps a shelter find holiday homes for dogs, and another one that a friend from high school appeared in. I think the writers need to add more dogs to the basic formula!

thumbs up with the dogs idea!! I like the 'regular' Hallmark love story movies better, I think- Candace Cameron Bure did one where she and her daughter adopted a dog who belonged to someone else, and they ended up falling in love- of course! And there was one movie I really liked that was about a cat, the cat's owner (a vet) and a fireman, if I recall correctly...
I think the issue with the Christmas movies for me, is the SHEER NUMBER of them, and their SAMENESS. I get to my saturation point on the Christmas-centric stories VERY quickly.

I don't really see my choice there - I do love the Hallmark Christmas movies but I don't watch every one - on the weekends, I will watch 2 or 3 - I enjoy them but honestly, there are so many of them that I can't keep up This would be my choice too. I am not annoyed they are too schmaltzy (that was my vote in the poll) but I don't have time to dedicate to sit and actually watch. I just turn one on here and there and mostly listen while I do something around the house. SaveSave

I don't think I've ever seen one but I've read some books that sound right along the same lines...small town love story set at Christmas between two unlikely people?
If so - they are like junk food but some days, you just want to veg out and have junk food (or a junk book or a movie)

I love them. I love how they are available the day after Halloween (or even before). I love bringing that exciting forward energy in. I watch them on Hallmark and Up. Some of them inspire me and others are just blah and play them as background entertainment while I'm writing ideas for what Christmas gifts to make to create more forward energy to be excited about unfold. Maybe if you feel there's got to be something more, take that opportunity and explore more. Maybe it won't be on tv but somewhere else. I find my "more" when I write in my notebooks
