Greg Sargent - Washington Post.. “Politico reports today that a number of lawmakers met with a Yale psychiatrist in December to receive a briefing on her view of President Trump’s mental state. “He’s going to unravel, and we’re already seeing the signs,” the psychiatrist, Dr. Bandy Lee, says. “Trump is going to get worse and will become uncontainable with the pressures of the presidency.” The meeting, Politico notes, was attended almost exclusively by Democratic lawmakers. But Lee’s campaign on Capitol Hill is far from over. Later this month, she has been invited to speak in front of another group of lawmakers, hosted by Connecticut Democratic Rep. Rosa DeLauro at her home. And she has been invited to speak at a town hall by Maryland Democratic Rep. Raskin’s bill would create a body in Congress to evaluate the president’s fitness. “The judgment [about the president’s mental state] is not mine to make,” the freshman congressman said in an interview. “The judgment constitutionally is to be made by the vice president and the Cabinet, or the vice president and a new body. From AP...
“Attorney General Jeff Sessions is rescinding a policy that allowed legalized marijuana to flourish in states across the country without federal intervention.”
Or as Kurt Eichenwald put it...
“It's amazing how Republicans scream about states rights until states adopt laws they don't like. Then it's federal supremacy. Just like Christofascists, they have no values. They just mouth them to pretend they do, and abandon at a whim.”
This could get interesting and open up a can of worms that could lead to results few will like.
I doubt California and other states where weed is legal will back down which means the courts could/will decide the parameters of State Rights vs Federal Laws & Federal over reach.

From Newsweek....
“The new federal prosecutor in Manhattan—an all-important federal slot that would be involved in Russia-related investigations of President Donald Trump—is a politically connected New York City lawyer who contributed to the president's election campaign in 2016.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Wednesday named Geoffrey Berman to succeed Preet Bharara as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York on an interim basis, 10 months after Trump fired Bharara in a purge of all federal prosecutors. The U.S. attorney in Manhattan is crucial because the district is home to Trump Tower, where a crucial meeting between Trump campaign officials and Kremlin-linked Russians occurred in 2016.
The Manhattan post is considered the most prominent of all 93 U.S. attorney positions and its former leaders are a who's who of insiders that includes former FBI Director James Comey, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Robert Morganthau and future Whitewater prosector Robert Fiske.“
What is not mentioned is Berman is Rudy Giuliani’s law partner.

Raskin is my congressperson! I mostly like him. He hit the ground running. That said, there are a lot of freshmen who are guns blazing (not surprising, Raskin also wants common sense gun measures) and will probably not get traction because they're written off for lack of experience.

I notice Trump doesn't talk any more about draining the swamp... I'm afraid the swamp is overflowing and flooding us all, by now! The swamp-stench is starting to creep out of Washington and across the country...
And I heard that bit about Sessions rescinding the marijuana policy earlier today- my first thought was also 'but what about Republicans being for less intrusive government?' Only when it suits them, I guess.

“Trump calls for 'bipartisan' immigration deal for 'dreamers' but reiterates demand for border wall”
If tiny hands wants his wall fine but he has to find a way to pay for it without using tax payer dollars. Because a true immigration deal will stop the flow of undocumented folks coming into this country.
And to say regardless of any immigration deal the wall is needed to stop drugs and criminals coming to the country would only have merit if it wasn’t for the fact that on both coasts are open and the border between the US and Canada can’t be considered entirely closed.
The only reason he wants that wall is he sees it as a monument to him.

Justice Dept to offer House key documents in Russia probeBY JOHN SOLOMON AND BRETT SAMUELS - 01/03/18 10:47 PM EST The House and Justice Department reached a deal Wednesday night to provide the probe into Russian election meddling long-sought documents and access to key witnesses. The deal was reached after FBI Director Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein made a surprise visit to House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.). It was announced by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), who had sought the information and threatened more drastic action if his panel continued to be denied access to the information. thehill.com/policy/national-security/367368-justice-dept-to-offer-house-key-documents-in-russia-probeI hope they are careful what they give Nunes!

“Hold on.
Donald Trump IS AT THE WHITE HOUSE, but just video conferenced into the White House press briefing because he was so afraid to face the press.
Never seen anything like it.
He's literally 150 feet away from the room.”
I’m not surprised because trump is a coward. But I have to say that was a pretty dumb thing to do. Even for him.

linkThis just keeps getting better and better and I don’t mean in a good way. Latest from the NYTimes... “Obstruction Inquiry Shows Trump’s Struggle to Keep Grip on Russia Investigation”From the article. WASHINGTON — President Trump gave firm instructions in March to the White House’s top lawyer: stop the attorney general, Jeff Sessions, from recusing himself in the Justice Department’s investigation into whether Mr. Trump’s associates had helped a Russian campaign to disrupt the 2016 election. Public pressure was building for Mr. Sessions, who had been a senior member of the Trump campaign, to step aside. But the White House counsel, Donald F. McGahn II, carried out the president’s orders and lobbied Mr. Sessions to remain in charge of the inquiry, according to two people with knowledge of the episode. Mr. McGahn was unsuccessful, and the president erupted in anger in front of numerous White House officials, saying he needed his attorney general to protect him. Mr. Trump said he had expected his top law enforcement official to safeguard him the way he believed Robert F. Kennedy, as attorney general, had done for his brother John F. Kennedy and Eric H. Holder Jr. had for Barack Obama.

Problem is trump has told sooo many lies you can’t believe anything he says.
What we have here is yet another embossment for this country that this type of book was written about a sitting president and that what’s in it could be very well be true

“Since taking office I have been very strict on Commercial Aviation. Good news - it was just reported that there were Zero deaths in 2017, the best and safest year on record!”
Prompted this response from Mark Kelly...
“Actually, it's @usdot, @faanews, & @nasa —and especially the airlines— who deserve credit for this. But, if you're going to take credit for zero airline deaths in 2017 then you should take responsibility for the tens of thousands of gun deaths, too. #lawsmatter”
I think Mark Kelly has a valid point...

“Comcast quietly fired hundreds of workers before Christmas, alongside boasting $1,000 bonuses bit.ly/2quCmlH”
Isn’t this at least the second corporation that boasted they were giving bonuses to the workers because of the tax cuts at the same time they were letting people go? I believe it is.
To anyone who believed this tax cut was going to actually benefit more than a couple of workers I’m reminded of the saying “there is a sucker born every minute”.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooo!! EPA chief Pruitt is said to be eyeing attorney general jobA nomination would face strong resistance from Democrats over his weakening of environmental protections. By ANDREW RESTUCCIA 01/05/2018 12:40 PM EST Updated 01/05/2018 01:20 PM ESTScott Pruitt, the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, has told friends and associates that he’s interested in becoming attorney general, according to three people familiar with the internal discussions. With rumors swirling that Jeff Sessions could depart the administration and two members of the House Freedom Caucus calling on the former Alabama senator to resign, Pruitt is quietly positioning himself as a possible candidate for the job. “Pruitt is very interested,” a person close to him said. “He has expressed that on a number of occasions.” It’s unclear whether Pruitt would be on the shortlist for the position, but people close to the president said Trump has grown to like him. Pruitt has emerged as the face of Trump’s deregulatory agenda, taking steps to overturn former President Barack Obama’s climate change regulations. He was also a leading advocate for pulling out of the Paris agreement on climate change. www.politico.com/story/2018/01/05/scott-pruitt-us-attorney-general-position-326373I know Sessions has not been the best choice of some/many of us. Whether we like it or not Sessions has stood up to dt a few times. He has some not so good stances, but seems to mostly uphold the law for now. Pruitt has showed he will NOT be honorable at all! His office is saying that he is not interested, but we know polotics.

But not of the kind DT is making out! I aplogise that I cannot link the source I am about to mention, I followed the links from one of the threads here, no additional research. The writer pointed out this kind of thing is inherent (was?) in the WH under DT because of his style. Everyone is afraid to upset him. He changes his mind frequently. He chatted to Wolff and did not kick him out, he suggested and hoped Wolff would do a favourable book. The wishy washy loose style was exploited by Wolff and has now bitten the WH in the ass. In addition, as is my experience in most "sick" companies, the stressed out "employees" need to vent, often, and can be extremely indiscreet with very little or no prompting whatsoever. When W was not actually at the WH people sought him out to vent. ETA: another little gem - there was a certain dinner party where a lot of venting took place. Lots of denials about what came out that evening, along the lines of "Wolff can't possibly have heard that..." The problem is, the dinner party was Wolff's

President Donald Trump's lawyers sent a letter Thursday to "Fire and Fury" author Michael Wolff and his publisher demanding that the book not be published or disseminated, and alleging, among other things, defamation and libel. The letter had no impact; the book was put on sale Friday. It makes no difference. The real reason that Trump probably will never sue is this: Reciprocal discovery. The discovery process is designed to enable the parties to uncover evidence from an adversary through the disclosure of documents and records, and can require sitting for a (transcribed) deposition. The rules are to be "liberally construed" to authorize "extremely broad" discovery. Parties to a lawsuit may force disclosure from the other side of any non-privileged matter that is relevant to any party's claim or defense. If Trump did sue over the book or former adviser Steve Bannon's statements in the book, the discovery process of a lawsuit could result in ruin for both sides. Any defendant could get a court order for Trump to disclose virtually anything tangentially related to the lawsuit. It's not worth the risk. from www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/why-trump-won-t-sue-stop-wolff-bannon-or-tell-n834961

Sarah Huckabee Sanders kills irony dead, once and for allBy Aaron Blake January 4 at 4:22 PM 2018 For the second straight day Thursday, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders fought back against Michael Wolff's Trump tell-all. And in doing do, she may have finally killed off what's left of irony in the White House briefing room.“The president,” Sanders told reporters, “believes in making sure that information is accurate before pushing it out as fact, when it certainly and clearly is not.”Yes, we all know what a stickler Trump is for making sure what he says is accurate before he says it. It may be his defining trait. In all seriousness, it's not just the nearly 2,000 false and misleading things Trump has said as president. It's that the White House and Trump himself have acknowledged that Sanders's standard doesn't really apply to them.********* Trump disproved Sanders's Thursday comment shortly after being inaugurated. At a White House news conference, he was confronted with his repeated claim that he had registered “the biggest electoral college win since Ronald Reagan” — one of many factually incorrect claims Trump has made about his 2016 win. Trump said in response, “I was given that information, I don’t know.” A fact too good to check, apparently!********* While talking about his baseless claim that millions of people voted illegally in the 2016 election, Trump was asked why he said such things without factual evidence.
“I’m a very instinctual person,” he said, “but my instinct turns out to be right.”***** www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2018/01/04/sarah-huckabee-sanders-kills-irony-dead-once-and-for-all/?utm_term=.7642dc7c2fe2&wpisrc=nl_az_most&wpmk=1TOO much stuff this!! I'm tires!!
