I read that the Wunderkid Israel-Palestine Fixer is against this move.
But it was strongly pushed by the Religious Zealot President in Waiting. And "Mother," no doubt.
(And is it just me who looks askance at the rabid evangelical allegiance to Israel? Seems to me it has very little to do with Judaism or the Right of Return - except as those things inform their own salvation, including Jerusalem's role in the "second coming." Always seems like a strange bedfellows thing...)

My bible knowledge is rusty even though a new one was just delivered this morning. So someone educate me if I am thinking differently. I whisper anti-christ, only somewhat jokingly. Doesn't it say in Revelations something about the capital being moved? After I get some reports done, I will look it up.

What on earth is he thinking? For the record, I am not in favor of this action at this time, but it is disingenuous to place it all on President Trump's shoulders. Notice at that time that the administration ignored the resolution. Saner heads prevailed. We don’t have a saner head in the White House right now. That is entirely on Trump’s shoulders. |

So, Israel should be the only country in the world that does not have the US Embassy in it's capital city because the rest of the world doesn't want it?
No matter how much the Arab countries dislike it, Jerusalem is the capital city of Israel and that's where the embassy should be; unless of course every other country want to move the embassies to other cities in their country.
No other country in the world deals with the rest of the world trying to tell them what to do with their capital city.

Apparently Chuck Schumer is not only FOR this move, but recommended it. I just read this:
Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer advised President Trump to declare Jerusalem the "undivided" capital of Israel ahead of Trump's expected announcement on the matter this week, the New York Democrat told The Weekly Standard on Tuesday.
The White House said Tuesday that Trump will announce that the U.S. will recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, but will delay moving the embassy from Tel Aviv.
Trump had suggested in an October interview that he was planning to make a decision regarding the embassy, but wanted to give an Israeli–Palestinian peace plan "a shot" first, according to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA).
Schumer himself told JTA that he supported the U.S. moving its embassy to Jerusalem and criticized Trump over his "indecisiveness" on the issue.
“President Trump’s recent comments suggest his indecisiveness on the embassy’s relocation,” Schumer told the news agency. “As someone who strongly believes that Jerusalem is the undivided capital of Israel, I am calling for the US Embassy in Israel to be relocated to Jerusalem."
Schumer said the move would "appropriately commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of Jerusalem’s reunification and show the world that the US definitively acknowledges Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.”

The Arabs threaten violence every time they don't get what they want. Despite the concessions Israel has made over the years, the violence continues.
Tell you what; lets give one-half of Washington, DC back to the Native Americans. Oh, and let Britain give Belfast to the Irish. It's all good I guess as long as we're dictating to another country what their capital city is.

It's been the right thing to do for years. I think this is an opinion that could be debated - and obviously has been many times. A big issue is how much weight one puts on Israel's interest and preferences compared to what serves not just Israel but other countries too. The US can't just other ignore factors if they want to promote long-term peace. |

It’s not something we can go back and change now, but I do think we should be sensitive to the fact that we helped create the current mess. No. Of course not. Jerusalem belongs to Israel. World Pressure should not dictate to them anymore than it should dictate to the US and England.

The risk of recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital is not that it will derail the peace process as there is no peace process w any real prospects. The risk is that it will increase tensions & lead to violence at a time there is more than enough tension & violence in the world.

If Trump moves it (he has not start building the embassy by the way,it’s probably like the wall he talk about it but it’s not going anywhere ) It will seriously piss off the Arab world and that’s dangerous for the whole Middle East and for us too, I am not saying that moving the embassy should never happen but right now is not a good time I believe that the world see the president of the United States as a loose cannon and not as the leader of the free world . |
