Scrapmaven mentioned she was going to give scratcher lottery tickets to someone for Christmas. This comment, along with the lottery commercials that are playing in my area, has led me to a question.
The commercial I'm specifically thinking of shows a couple in bed with noise cancelling ear phones on. The husband yells over to the wife "You hearing this Pam" and she answers "I'm hearing it Randy" and during their conversation you hear a hot rod car revving its engine. They show the tail end of a sporty yellow car with personalized plates that say "THX PAM". Then Pam says "Next year the neighbors get xxx (some present)". The voiceover person then starts talking about scratcher lottery tickets are a great gift to give, indicating that Pam had given her neighbor a scratcher, that person won big and bought a fancy, loud sports car.
My question is, if you were given a scratcher lottery ticket and you won big, would you keep the winnings or would you feel obligated to share the winnings with the person that gave the gift to you?
Personally, I would feel like I should share. I know a gift is a gift, but my guilt meter would tach out if my winnings were too large. And I'm not sure what I think "too large" would be...
Thoughts?

I don't know what I would do but my mil gives scratchers to her children and children in law and every year I win about $10 and never cash them in because I hate going inside gas stations. I guess I would go if I won big and we would definitely share since it's his mom.

I give scratchers with no expectations of sharing. If my recipient won, say, $10,000, I wouldn’t expect them to give me part of it. I would probably think it would be a nice gesture if they took me out to dinner, but I still wouldn’t side-eye them if they didn’t. It was a gift. I gave it away.

Greed and envy ! This is why I don't give them, could not stand it if somebody won.
My husband's brothers would never share , but would expect the others to share. They all have the I won it I keep it and if you have it, I want view of life.

I would not expect them to share, but if someone gave me a winning lottery ticket, I'd love to share with them.

In our family, lotto tickets come with the expectation of sharing anything big. One of my aunts once said that she wouldn't share and everyone stopped buying them for her. In all honesty, I wouldn't expect someone to share with me, but I would were I the winner.

I put scratchers in DH's stocking every year. One year he won a couple hundred bucks and we went out to a really nice dinner. I guess my example isn't much help.
I think a gift is a gift. Unless you have some understanding that you would share any big winnings beforehand, I think it's pretty selfish to expect any share of someone else's winnings.

I give scratch off tickets to DH in his stocking every year (and this year will also give to DS now he’s 18). I never really thought about the sharing part. I don’t think I would expect them to share.

I'm scratching them off AT HOME and if I won anything that required me to actually go to the lottery office (anything over $599 here), I wouldn't actually be telling anyone that I'd won.
But the only people who buy them for me anyway are my dad and my sister. My dad might tease me about expecting a cut, but I don't think he really does (and if he does, too bad, I'm still paying off student loans), but I would probably slip my sister a few extra bucks as part of her birthday present in the spring.

I include them w/some of my cookie trays just for fun. If someone won big I'd be thrilled for them and would refuse any portion of it if offered. It's all in good fun and nothing more.
