He isn't wrong that the drug war was started to target African Americans. He just fails to recognize that it's institutional racism that was driving it and not some sort of racial predisposition to drug use.
If you haven't read "Chasing the Scream - The First and Last Days of the War on Drugs" by Johann Hari, I highly recommend it - I learned so much about the start of the drug war and the reasoning behind it, the portion on the death of Billie Holliday was heartbreaking. It was really one of the most enlightening books I've ever read.

But we do need to remember him in the future. We should also remember the tax paying African American citizens of Kansas. Why the hell should they have to pay their hard earned money (which they make less of simply because of their skin) for representation that looks like this? When I mentioned this in the " Should America Say Sorry" thread I was accused of being entitled and wanting "something for nothing". Lazy African narrative all over again. We are literally funding our own mistreatment. |

Yes, he's definitely right that blacks were targeted in the 30's. Because of RACISM. From the article in the OP:
