Power to the peas! Checking in. Went to the LA march to get recharged. There were triple the pussy hats this year. A lot of high charged millennials and gen Zers. We missed our Santa Barbara area sisters this year due to the mudslides. It was very inspiring and moving. I hope this year inspires even more women to run for office and win!!! Have you seen the latest Times cover? I don't know if you remember and old pea from the other board named Megan Hunt. She's running for the Nebraska Legislature. There's a big march going on in Vegas today. Keep resisting and raising hell until we get this scourge out of our Whitehouse!

Besides the reasons already listed, voter registration/voter participation is a huge push for this years march. Today in our county seat, we're having a march (most went to DC yesterday) and there will be volunteer booths there to register voters. Considering low voter turnout, it's important to energize people to get to the polls in November!
Updating: It was soul restoring to be among so many who were intent upon spreading a positive message and the speakers were great. There were also more volunteers going around to give our voter registration info. And....there were more people attending this location than last year!
The one drawback is that last year, there were complaints that it was largely priveleged white women. They made an effort to reach out to all groups and bring them into the organizing, speaking and attendance this year. But people are upset they feel that transgendered people weren't included among the speakers. It's a learning curve, that is sure. We must continue to try to do better and be better.

I love that this year the theme was action and voting. One side of my sign said "Power to the Polls" and my daughter had one side that said "Put Voting on Your To Do List". Turnout is going to be key and I think we can do it for midterms. I don't even know who spoke at the NYC march because we were too far back to hear anything. I hope the organizers continue to reach out to increase inclusion.

I wanted to march, but I'm having a foot/ankle issue. I drove by to beep and show support, and now feel horribly guilty I didn't try to limp along as there were a few gals using walkers and scooters. They had a good turnout for the smallish Trumpy city. The organizer said she would be happy to have 25 show up BUT around 75 showed! eta - local news said there were nearly 100 marchers! SaveSaveI completely understand how you feel. There is no way I could physically participate, but it didn't even occur to me to do a drive-by. Not sure how well that would have worked I downtown Austin, but it would have been something at least! My MIL walks the 3-day every year, and they love it when people do the drive bus for support. You did what you could, good for you!

It was a great day in Austin. There were actually three rallies that kind of all rolled up together. The impeachment rally started first at City Hall and then we marched with the Women's March from there to the Capitol. I was worried about the turnout because last year's was so huge, but it was solid. It had a really good vibe, same as last year. It was very diverse. Honestly, my little family felt like we really needed it. It can feel extra daunting living in Texas.Small town Texan here, we averaged 84% Republican votes in the last big elections. I feel your pain!

Damn straight, Sandy! I sure do "want the whole apple." I want to eat the whole magical apple. I want to eat it and to teach my daughters to eat the magical fruit. I absolutely do want to take a look at the fear women have lived in since AD and turn that shit A.R.O.U.N.D. God gave me this brain AND this uterus. I think I can and will use both. Thank you very much. When my daughter cures cancer, I don't want you to take the medicine because it was created with the help of that magical fruit.

Mark Elliot....
She was of course on Fox & Friends.
“Lara Trump: Women at #WomensMarch "These women out there are so anti-Trump and I don't think they even know why" Twitter, do your thing. LOL”
She just won the title I very rarely use. What a dumb condescending broad.
edited to add Jon Cooper’s response..
“Is Lara Trump REALLY this vacuous, or was this a calculated comment on her part? I find it hard to believe that she could be so empty-headed. But then again, she did marry @erictrump ...”

Salty! I had a wonderful time at the Denver march. It was really peaceful, attended by women of all ages, from all backgrounds. I saw women in their 90’s, and small girls as young as five. They were all beautiful and courageous, especially now, with the climate of hatred infesting our leadership. There were also a fair amount of men, which made me hopeful.

My DH went with me this time. He said because we could grocery shop after and he was just going to 'hang around' in the area. We're driving into town and see friends of ours walking on their way to the march. One of them his good friend and he's all "Hey, why is Herman going?" We get there and see several other of his friends, one even with his own sign, and DH is suddenly engaged. I think he secretly wanted to see what all the action was about but seeing friends really helped reinforce that you don't have to be a woman to be a feminist. And you don't have to be black to believe black lives matter. Or an immigrant, lgbtq, etc to believe & know they matter.

I actually like this response - this tells me she doesn't have a logical, well thought out argument to fall back on and has to resort to petty insults. It also tells me she is likely disregarding the voices of the marchers and the engagement and activism of a lot of people by dismissing them as "ugly" - let her keep her head in the sand. I hope none of them sees what's coming in midterms.

I wish I had gotten a picture .... but one of my favorite marchers was a small, elderly woman walking slowly with a cane. She had a knit hat covered in buttons and my daughter went up to her to give her a button from the march. It was cool to see the young and the old together like that.

She read a poem about her sexual assault experiences and pleaded with folks to listen to other women, whoever they are and be compassionate and speak out for those who can't, regardless of our differences. Her reading was delivered as an amazing, impassioned performance that brought tears to my eyes. It's hard to believe she's only 23. Did you see it? I can't seem to figure out how to link it here via mobile, but it's worth listening to her perform her "speech".

The Women's Marches may have been the largest demonstration in US historywww.vox.com/2017/1/22/14350808/womens-marches-largest-demonstration-us-history-map"Crowd estimates from Women’s Marches on Saturday now tally over 4 million and political scientists think we may have just witnessed the largest day of demonstrations in American history. According to data collected by Erica Chenoweth at the University of Denver and Jeremy Pressman at the University of Connecticut, marches held in more than 600 US cities were attended by at least 4.2 million people. Some have decided that makes him weak and calls him Justine. Shows their true colours and what they think of women.!

I figure if there are 100 year old Holocaust and Japanese internment camp survivors, and WW2 vets, all centenarians resisting at the marches we should all have our asses out there.
