Do you find Jack Daniels to be as effective as cough syrup? I just need something to stop the "nagging" feeling at the back of the throat that makes you feel like you need to cough (I have a rough sore throat). I only have a flu-cough nighttime medicine combo and I don't want all the other medications that the dose has in it.
I woke last night with that feeling in my throat and ended up taking a cough drop and it just didn't work enough (it was one of those Ricola herb ones and it didn't have any menthol which I think is probably better). Tonight I'm thinking of having a small cup (I'm only talking about tiny sips, not a night cap) of Jacks on my night stand. Anyone crazy enough to do this?

I do a shot of Jack with about a tablespoon each of lemon juice and honey and heat it about 20-30 seconds in the microwave and sip. Works better than cough syrup for me.

I remember my mom making our family cough syrup out of honey, lemon and whiskey. So yeah, it works. It is what my great grandparents, grandparents and parents all used growing up. They weren't drinkers just to have a drink.

Make a Hot Toddy with your Jack Daniels. It's a time proven remedy.
1 oz (2 tablespoons) bourbon 1 tablespoon mild honey. 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice 1/4 cup boiling-hot water

I was feeling kinda crappy with cold symptoms. One shot of cinnamon BV, a good nights sleep and I was back to normal the next day.

Jack Daniels will work, too I am sure. Being sick and coughing sucks.

Yep. Just went through this last weekend. A hot toddy (or three) is the way to go.

I don’t drink, but found that warmed apple juice with a tablespoon or two of honey melted into it worked wonders for a sore throat. You can also suck on a marshmallow and that works too.

I don't drink either plus health/heart reasons, but I had a really bod sore throat when I was in Utah visiting my family one winter. My step dad gave me a shot of wiskey and showed me how to gargle it and spit it out just enough to get hte back of my throat. ike mouthwash lol! It actually did pretty good. I still got the burn but It took some of the rawness out So it helps ya not be so miserable and worked faster than meds.
Hope you get some relief! Feel better soon!

Gargling with mouthwash will help as well. You can do that before going to bed and as much as you want all night long. Whereas the JD will need to be rationed for obvious reasons. Though, the JD will also help you to sleep.

Hell yeah! I'm still having to take a dose of hydrocodone cough syrup daily, but if I ran out I'd go for the Scotch. Brandy I'm sure works too. Hope it worked for you!

I'd much rather do the Jack, honey, and lemon juice combo than take a chemical-soup medicine.

It worked for me and all my marshmallows were totally hard and stale, LOL. I couldn’t just eat them, I had to let it melt in my mouth like a cough drop. I was surprised that it actually worked!

Funny, that’s exactly what I made myself last night. Slept like a log and never woke up coughing.
