Been thinking about that. Right now I’m thinking writing (prob more the editing side). Public speaking. Some sort of counseling or something along those lines.

Those are some great ideas and ambitions!
I have a degree in Early childhood Education, but working in a daycare was not my thing. I hated it. I'd have to upgrade for a year to work in a school nowadays.
I also have a diploma in Medical office Administration and worked in a med office for years and also with the Red Cross, but it wasn't fulfilling. When my son was born, DH and I agreed I would stay home. Then Dd came along in 2009 and I'm still at home.
I'd love to go part time for criminalist or CSI but not sure I could get in now with new regulations/requirements. I graduated high school in 86 and am not sure if I qualify.
I'd love to teach but seeing what the teachers in my DD’s school go through on a daily basis, I think I'll pass. They do so much with so many issues from students and parents. It's so disheartening to see.

My boyfriend (43) has had a life of manual labor jobs, and in January started Culinary at our local community college. It’s a pretty high rated program for our area. I’m proud of him for taking the leap. He mentioned it once to me, but thought I would think it was a dumb idea. I told him to check into it. Each step of the way, I just kept encouraging him. He just got his uniform and knives today, as some hands on classes start after spring break for him.
I don’t know any of you Peas in really life, but I’ll tell you, if my BF can do this, (he is ridiculously hard on himself). SO CAN YOU!!!!

It's so disheartening to see. We have schools in NJ that specialize in adults going back to school. So most people have no problem ‘getting in’ the time & money is most often the issue. For me it’s the money - what I’d want my masters in is only taught at one school in the state and it’d be $40,000 grand and the job it is required for doesn’t pay much so it’d be a poor investment. I sincerely regret not doing it after my bachelors when it would have cost $10,000 or less ( most likely less ) it really is one of my ‘regrets’ in life. But that’s ok I like my job now and I have plans to integrate parts of what I’d like to do in my life in the future.

I would absolutely go back if money wasn't an issue. I'm not sure I would look for a degree or if i would just take random classes. I wouldn't mind getting a reading specialist or law degree

I'd love to get my PhD, but probably not. I am planning on getting my pilot's license within the next year, so does flight school count? Oooooh, three posts in and I've just been given a great idea for my next job! I started taking flying lessons yeeeeeears ago when I was in my 20's. Then we bought a house and with the mortgage repayments I couldn't afford to keep taking lessons. It was costing me $140 per week, and that was back in the mid 90's. I really wish I'd been able to keep it up.

I have a BA in Philosophy and an MA in elementary education and a teaching credential.
I would love to go back and get a MA in Library Science and become a children's librarian. But those jobs are very few and hard to find and don't pay well.
I would also be interested in an AA in Custom Dressmaking/Small Business and/or Theater Costuming (both offered at our local community college). I started sewing for my daughter a couple years ago and I would love to learn more and gain more skills in it. Maybe have my own online site or just sell at local shows.

In general, I wouldn't, because I struggle with verbal learning. Listening to verbal teaching, or lectures, I do not absorb, it goes in one in ear out the other. I learned this in about myself back in High School.
I do much better with one on one(so it goes at my pace and I can ask questions), or reading everything silently to myself. I do not do well in group learning settings, like a lecture or verbal speakers.
With that said. I need "life in general" classes. Specifically, technology. How to work the camera, from a technically standpoint(the settings). How to work the technical side of the computer. That type of stuff is so hard and complicated for me, for my mind to compute. I need step-by-step instructions. Once someone shows me, and I can ask questions and write it down...I do okay.
I have always struggled with easy and hard. Meaning, everyone else does it the easy way(for me, the easy way, always seems so hard and complicated). When I do something, that I think is the "easy way" for me, I hear multiple comments of "why are you doing it the hard way".
When someone is teaching me something, I am very slow, in getting it. But once it clicks in my mind, then I get it. Usually, for me, "getting it" takes five times as long as everyone else. Which I find causes frustration for people(specifically the impatient type) who are trying to teach or show me how.

I always wanted to go to art school but never made it. Marriage and children became the priority. Don’t feel too bad, I went to art school for two years and thought it was overrated. It wasn’t nearly as awesome as I thought it would be and it was expensive. I also don’t particularly enjoy school, but if I was going to choose something to go back for it would be accounting. I don’t know any poor CPAs.

Funny you should ask....just recently, like the last 48 hours, I have considered a Pharmacy Tech class. I am 57 and not sure if I have the cajonés to try! My niece completed a pharmacy tech degree. It took her 18 months and I think it was all or mostly online classes and she got hired right away. Definitely worth looking into!

No, I am going to be 40 in a few months and just the thought of going back to school makes me tired. Luckily, I enjoy my job. It fits my life and I don't take anything home with me at the end of my day. I have a degree but I was lucky enough to escape with no student loans the first time. I remember how horribly long it was to pay back the 10k that my dh had to pay at the end of our university life. No thanks. Also, our only child will be of college age in four years. I'd rather send her to school for a degree and make sure she doesn't graduate with a ton of debt.
That being said, I wish I had changed my degree in college and applied for pharmacy school. I thought I was too invested in my degree at the time, and really in hindsight, I had tons of time at 20 to do what I really wanted to do!

When I was in college, my dad desperately tried to get me to switch my degree from elementary education—even going so far as (during one heated argument) threatening not to pay (he didn’t follow through—he paid for my college). He argued that I wouldn’t make enough money, that no one respects teachers, that it’s more work than it’s worth... I couldn’t believe he felt that way (just thought he cared about money...)
He was absolutely right. I wish I would’ve listened. I love my job, but it’s not worth it. I’m actively looking for other career options that will make me happy...

Just an fyi...california state universities offer free tuition to people over 60. People in other states may want to find out if their state has a similar program.

Right now I just want to retire and do fun things, and school doesn't seem fun. It's work. I got my masters 35 years ago in a degree I don't care for and been working n that field ever since. But if the sky was the limit and I could learn anything:
I would become a master garber of historic costumes or a master curator of historic clothing at like the Victoria and Albert Museum or something.
The other thing I think would be fascinating is to computer generate faces on skulls to see what people looked like. That would be amazing so I would go to school for that if the only criteria is going back to school. Like somehow miraculously I'd go back to school and have the talent and ability to actually do that.
And if life didn't suck sometimes, I would go to law school so I could deal directly with all the fuckery of life with legal knowledge.

I have my Master's but if I go back, I think I'd want a Master's in Psychology or something similar. I've always been extremely interested in human behavior. Not sure I'd want to practice but study it for sure.

This is me in so many areas of my life. anything with math I can forget it, from weaving to quilting to cooking. If it has math I just get frustrated. I also have to learn hands on and lately I have to learn by watching you tube instead of someone actually showing me. It took me 15 times watching a video to thread the second thread on a serger.

We're friends with one of the pharmacists at our local Walgreens and she was telling me the techs are in high demand, and Walgreens is always looking to hire more "mature" (her words ) candidates. Something else she told us is Walgreens likes to hire younger candidates (high school), especially those interested in becoming a pharmacist. My ds was considering pharmacy for a while and she said to apply and let her know if he did (which he decided not to do).

I'm the girl that tried to just be a full time student as my career. It didn't work, they eventually kick you out. Lol. So, I would love to get back to that gig. I took loads of science classes, and got a degree in molecular and cell biology, even though I knew I didn't really want to work in a lab.
So, if I got a do over, I would probably get my degree in construction management and I would also like to learn fine furniture building. On the side, studying taxidermy for museum dioramas would be awesome.
