My daughter and I were really looking forward to this movie and we were underwhelmed.
The movie seemed "choppy" to me. It is worth seeing, just not nearly as amazing as I envisioned. It had some really neat aspects, just not produced well.
Oprah did not fit the part and her acting was not up to par. LOVED Reece and Mindy Kaling, they were the best part of the movie.

I love the book. I have no plans to see the movie as the previews appear to have left the story and gone in some direction that will spoil the book for me.
Our local paper's review headline said the movie didn't deliver as promised. I read only the headline, so have no more to add.

this helps me out; thanks. I loved this book as a kid, and I don't want those memories ruined.

I've heard nothing but less than stellar reviews for it. We hadn't planned on seeing it anyway.

I didn't read it as a child, but tried to read it a few years ago, and didn't like it at all.
But the movie looks good. I will probably wait to rent it.

I would rent and not go to the theater. It had some beautiful scenery and a few cool effects but it sure did not draw me into the movie.

Just got home from watching this. Worst movie I’ve seen in years. So bad that halfway through the movie, the guy behind my son announces loudly to his wife, “This movie is terrible. Why did you bring us to watch this?”
Laughed all the way home with my teens about how we’re going to have nightmares tonight about flying lettuce.
Bad acting, bad plot. I think it would be a good movie if you were drunk or high maybe. Or maybe the people who made it were high.
Just all around awful. Wouldn’t even pay to rent.

I just found this meme today and was thinking of using it in a book display to encourage our students to READ the book first! I have an older cover and a new one and have already mentioned to a few students in my reading groups as a book to try. I loved the book as a child- re- read it a few weeks ago, still enjoyed it. I was hoping the movie would be good. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg) Corinne ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/thumbnailer/wleSrYmCPsNpPsBxwDim.png)

That makes me so sad. I was hoping the movie would be awesome, like the book.

I found the book to be choppy too. I also found it a bit scary. We might rent the movie someday but we won’t go see it in the theater.

My daughter (10) and I saw it. We both had just reread the book. She had complaints, but still loved it (I think her bar is pretty low, lol). I was mostly bored. I think it should have darker and less shiny.

I never read the book but when I have seen the previews, it just didn't seem like something I was especially interested in and I have read some reviews (which were not very favorable, although I don't always go by reviews). I may get around to seeing it but it isn't a "must see" for me. Thanks for the reviews everyone.

Hearing these reviews makes me sad. I’m supposed to see the movie on Tuesday with a group of friends. I will probably still go, but now I’m not looking forward to it as much as I was.

Hah. I'm still mad about Desperaux the movie! The whole entire point of the book was that he was NOT brave, so what he did was incredible. Stupid movies ruining books!
I have heard from several friends who say the movie is very confusing and they all wanted to walk out of it. Ugh.

What a total bummer! I have been reading this with my 9 year old in anticipation of the movie. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg) Only good news is we read very slowly (when I read out loud, I yawn every other word. lol It's annoying and weird! I read SO much faster in my head!) so maybe by time we actually finish it will be available to rent. lol

I am still going to see it as we have MoviePass and it doesn't cost me anything more than my time at this point. I loved the book as a child and it sounds like no one loves this movie, not people who loved the book nor people who don't know it at all.
Frozen was based on the story of the "Snow Queen" by Hans Christian Andersen. The movie had minimal resemblance to the actual story in the end and minimal may be quite kind, so I was not expecting it to match up with the book particularly well. Just bummed that others who don't know the story also gave it a thumbs down. Just going to lower my expectations and enjoy the costumes and scenery!

this helps me out; thanks. I loved this book as a kid, and I don't want those memories ruined. Exactly this. It was (and is) one of my all-time favorites. I just can't bear to see it messed up. Part of what clued me in is the nonstop commercials on the Disney channel, where they're talking with so-and-so, who plays the part of Veronica (I think that's the name). Um. Veronica isn't even a part of the book. The other thing that made me leery was reading an interview with the director who had never read the book (at least, not beforehand, I don't know about now) and openly admitted she was going in with a political agenda. Just...weird. It may well be a good movie, but it's definitely not sounding like the movie made from the book *I* love.

This is so interesting to read. DS's 6th grade class just read the book and a mom set up a movie date for the entire class to go on the 18th.

I have heard from several friends who say the movie is very confusing and they all wanted to walk out of it. Ugh. I think children's books are almost impossible to create into even better movies. While some are better than others, the only one I can say was much better than the book was The Whipping Boy... and that was from the 80's.

I saw one of the witches interviewed (Reese) and she said the story was reimagined. It wasn't supposed to follow the book other than the basic idea.

I hate that they 'reimagined' it! I had no idea, in any of the stuff I've heard about it I didn't hear about that. Even more reason for me not to see it; I wanted to see the movie of the book. Why reimagine something that's a classic? Or at least, call it something different!

My younger son only lets me read a short while most of the time, so it's rarely an issue for him, but my older one used to always get irritated with me when I started to fall asleep. Or as he put it, when I would "sleep while (you) read".

Watched it and it felt flat, like something was missing. I was about to sleep during a part of the movie. And I don't mind slower paced movies but it just was ehhh. I'd save my money and wait for it to come out on dvd.
However if you still plan to go to the movies this weekend, I'd recommend Peter Rabbit, that movie was very entertaining and funny! Red Sparrow with Jennifer Lawrence was really good too.

I knew I wouldn’t care for it after seeing Mrs. Which, Whatist and Who. In the book they are centaur looking creatures in their actual form, right? And Mrs. Which (Oprah) is just Light I think, I hate that they didn’t even bother to follow her distinct speaking pattern. I think the director just wanted to make a pretty movie and didn’t give a hoot about the book it was based on or the people who loved it.
Such a bummer, this could have been so good!

I was so looking forward to it, but I want a movie version of the book, not a re-imagined movie based on the characters and a few events from the book. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg) I watch the made for TV version back in the early 200s, and it was just that--a ma de for TV movie, so I was hoping for this to be a better version of that, but that's not how it sounds so far. ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png)

I need to reread the whole series and the off shoots again. I know in the book they change forms, but I don’t think it was ever as they are shown in the movie.
