DH went to the grocery store tonight with just 2 things to buy (for me... he had his own stuff to get). One of those was a bag of spinach, which I use in making green smoothies. I buy it at this store all the time and they have 3 different brands that they carry. What he came home with was none of those, and it is a mixture of spinach, baby bok choy, and baby red & green chard. I've never used bok choy or chard in anything, much less a smoothie. Is it going to be like the spinach, where I won't be able to taste it? If not, there is a huuuuuge wasted bag (seriously, it is a HUGE bag!) of greens, because I don't cook or even make salads, and even if I did make salads, I don't like mixed green salads.

Taste the leaves. If they taste ok, I would try it.

I don't know about the chard, although I think it has a bit of bitterness to it.
But bok choy, IMO, has the texture of celery but none of the flavor. (Try a piece of bok choy. It tastes like nothing. That's why it's great in chinese dishes because it is just a way of eating the sauce.)

Yes you can! Depending on your blender it will be smoother with some (vitamix) vs others (magic bullet). It will have a different taste than spinach. A bit more bitter to me. I use kale, spinach, swiss chard, romaine....whatever is in my fridge that needs to be used up. Mix it with sweeter veg (carrots, celery, beets, etc)

Taste the leaves. If they taste ok, I would try it. But then I wouldn't even put the spinach in, because I don't like it, either!

I have a question too.
Can I just use mixed salad greens instead of spinach or kale or any other "superpower" green.
My fridge is mostly empty, but I have some of that spring mix bagged salad to use up.
That would be fine, right?

Try it. What have you got to lose? A piece of fruit? Go for it.

I put kale and/or spinach and/or chard in my smoothies all the time. I have used a mix that sound similar to what you have that has bok choi and it was fine.
It's not the greens that you should be concerned about when it comes to the flavour, it's the fruit you use. A banana will cover almost anything. A squirt of lemon or lime juice will mellow the greens flavour too.
You can, it just won't give you the benefits of the superpower greens so it's not really worth it. But yes, you can.

I've used a mix like that in my smoothies, and I thought it tasted fine.

I will throw any type of green in there (spinach, kale, beet greens, swiss chard, etc). When I used the swiss chard, it did have a more bitter taste. However, I had put in a ton and had only used it for greens. You may not even taste it with the mix.
