Time to start new thread. But first, the below quote is not how I see this thread.
“I haven’t necessarily abandoned this thread, but, obviously, there are a few from the opposing side of the fence who can’t seem to respect this thread as a place for us to talk amongst ourselves. I can’t see the liberal catch-all thread unless I log out, but have conservatives or Trump supporters invaded that thread? Is there some sort of ‘payback’ going on that I can’t see?”
This thread was started and continues to be a thread that all are welcome to post their thoughts about the subjects in the title. That’s deal when you post on a public message board, all are welcome. If one wants to limit who posts on “their” thread then maybe they should look into starting a private group, members only, someplace where it’s allowed. From what I understand that can be done.
Are there certain folks I wish would not post on threads I start? Absolutely. That can be said about anyone who starts a thread. But again this is a public message board and they have the right to post on whatever thread catches their fancy. It’s called choice. You know, it’s a thing us liberals like. Choice. 😀
If those who post on the thread do so with the intent to disrupt they will be called on it.
I personally like to read other’s views/opinions about something. I may not agree with their opinion and may sit and grumble about it but I appreciate the fact they shared. It. Even if I am grumbling.
But I will no longer be tolerant of those who try and push what they believe as facts with nothing to back it up. Yesterday I started reading a study that all that misinformation pushed by the Russian bots and other third parties did have an affect on 2016 election. The question was how much. But when you think trump won the electoral college by roughly 100,000 votes spread across three states one has to wonder was it enough so that trump won. So facts matter.
There be will be little spats and there will be big spats I’m sure and I wish that wasn’t the case. But that’s what happens when people from different parts of the country and the world, with different backgrounds and beliefs engage. Especially when it comes to politics. But in all that back and forth, sometimes somewhat testy, one just might learn something. And when you get to be my age learning something new is a good thing.
That is why I personally will never put up the “you aren’t welcome” sign on any thread I start.
Ok, I’m officially off my soapbox on this subject.

Now back to regularly scheduled program.
Sheldon Whitehouse...
“Pruitt “spent $3,000 to sweep his office for surveillance bugs,” then “$2,000 to install biometric locks with fingerprint readers,” then “more than $42,000” to build a secret phone booth in his office.”
Prompted this reply from Paul Waldman...
“This was all absolutely necessary, because everybody knows the Sierra Club employs a team of highly trained assassins who may or may not also be mutants with superpowers to kill public officials they don't like.”
This is why I like Paul Waldman. 😀

linkNewsweek.... “Who is tracking D.C. cell phones? Mysterious spy devices lead to foreign spy fears bit.ly/2ItyLsv” From the article... “An undisclosed number of surveillance devices known as “Stingrays”—used to track and intercept smartphone communications by posing as legitimate cell towers—are suspected to be in operation across Washington D.C., leading to fears foreign governments are using them to snoop on the capitol. Homeland Security revealed in a March 26 response to Democratic senator Ron Wyden that its National Protection and Programs Directorate [NPPD] had spotted “anomalous activity…that appears to be consistent with International Mobile Subscriber Identity [IMSI] catchers,”—the formal name for the technology.” Sure why not. It fits in with all the craziness that is swirling through this country right now.

“ABC’s Roseanne revival with its third episode drew 15.2 million total viewers and a 3.9 demo rating on Tuesday night, down 17 and 25 percent from its boffo, double-episode premiere”
Still good, no question, but I believe it will continue to drop once the novelty wears off.

There really wasn’t anything political last night, but the scene you mentioned was a total turn off. I know her character is crude and no nonsense, but I miss the Rosanne who took Darlene to the bus stop in overalls and looking like a hick with lipstick all over her face after Darlene was caught skipping. The scene last night was just stupid.

PoliticoChris Lu... “Trump's anti-immigrant policies/rhetoric are having major negative economic impact. In 2017, Trump Admin. granted 13% fewer visas for foreign visitors. The result is $4.6 billion less in foreign tourist spending in U.S. and a loss of 40,000 tourism jobs.” From Politico... “Foreign visas plunge under Trump”From the article... “The United States is granting fewer visitor visas to people from around the world — not just Muslims — as President Donald Trump ratchets up his anti-immigration rhetoric. By one measure, the U.S. granted 13 percent fewer visitor visas over the past 12 months when compared with fiscal year 2016, according to State Department data analyzed by POLITICO — a downward trend that appears to have accelerated in the past six months. It’s unclear whether the drop is due to fewer people applying or more rejections of applications. The cause is likely some combination of both. The State Department furnishes data on how many visitor visas are granted per country, but releases only limited information on how many applications are received or refused.” Loss of 40,000 jobs. Well there is another group of people being impacted negatively by trump’s actions.

I watched the first episode and there were a few laughs but Roseanne's voice really grated on me. I think she is great as a stand up comedian but she is worse than a lousy actor. I did enjoy seeing the rest of the crew though. Last night I turned it on again thinking I would give it one more chance. Just a few minutes in I changed to NCIS (I think) and watched that. I flipped back to Roseanne during an NCIS commercial and couldn't take her so flipped back and watched the rest of the commercials. I only watched the first couple of seasons the first time it was on and thought it was funny. But then I was a lot younger with a different tolerance for low lifes. Mostly what I couldn’t get past this time, besides Roseanne's voice, was that it is just a show about a bunch of not too bright, depressing losers and their dialogue just isn't funny. So I'm done. I don't think it will last that long...although considering some of the crap on TV I may be real wrong about that.

I think it will drop too. I watched it last night. It wasn’t as funny as the previous 2 episodes (to me). Still funny, I still laughed at some of the jokes. I liked the Darlene and Harris storyline-I thought it was realistic and touching. I didn’t live the fact that Roseanne called her granddaughter a bitch. She’s a funny lady and she knows how to use words. There are a zillion other insults she could have lobbed at Harris without calling her a bitch. Lazy writing. I thought Roseanne didn’t hit her marks spot on with her delivery (I thought that during last week’s episodes too), while John Goodman bailed all of his. I’m surprised it was already renewed for a 2nd season just based on 1 weeks worth of ratings. Though I guess networks don’t have a problem with cancelling shows based on a few weeks ratings of duds either.

Kyle Griffin...
“Susan Combs, a fierce opponent of the Endangered Species Act who compared proposed endangered species listings to “incoming Scud missiles”, now has a role overseeing federal wildlife policy after being named acting secretary for fish, wildlife and parks.”
Why not have someone like her oversees endangered species, it fits right in with the trump’s goal to trash this country. All for this 💵💵💵💵!
Slight detour from this. I saw a picture on twitter yesterday. Some photographer was tracking a lioness carrying her cub. According to the captioned with the picture, the lioness became tired and an elephant noticed and offered it’s trunk which the cub climbed on and the picture was of the elephant walking carrying the cub with the lioness walking beside the elephant.
Now I don’t know if that photograph was doctored or not. The cub looked kind of nervous so maybe not but regardless it was sure was neat. When I see pictures like that or read that the last white male rhino died I get angry at those who think’s it’s ok to kill these animals for sport or body parts or that it’s ok for a species to die out.

I’m sure this was posted on one of the gun threads but it popped up on my timeline and in reading it again I felted it should be posted/repeated ...
“How we save lives” from March for our lives
“Fund gun violence research and gun violence prevention/intervention programs.”
We must provide the CDC with dedicated funding to research gun violence as a public health issue. Even the original sponsor of the law that limits the CDC’s ability to do this research, former Congressman Jay Dickey, said that it was a mistake. More than 100 medical organizations have called on Congress to restore funding. Furthermore, we believe that gun violence and prevention community work is essential to reducing gun violence and these groups should be funded fully.
2. Eliminate absurd restrictions on ATF.
The gun industry has operated mostly unchecked for far too long. ATF, the only federal agency with jurisdiction to regulate the gun industry, has been operating with one hand tied behind its back – unable to even digitize records of gun sales – or require gun dealers to conduct annual inventory checks to make sure they aren’t missing any guns. The ATF needs to become a modern agency, one capable of keeping receipts and efficiently regulating this massive industry.
3. Universal background checks.
It is too easy to obtain a firearm. Right now, federal law only requires you to obtain a background check if you purchase a gun from a licensed dealer. We must close the private sale loophole and make sure all sales undergo a background check.
4. High-capacity magazine ban.
High-capacity magazines that hold more than 10 rounds serve only one purpose – to allow someone to shoot as many bullets as possible, in the shortest amount of time. These magazines are devastating and need to be banned.
5. Limit firing power on the streets.
Weapons of war have no place in our communities. Our nation requires a comprehensive assault weapons ban that prohibits the future production and sale of these weapons and provides a solution for dealing with those assault weapons that are already owned, such as a buyback program or registration. Limiting high-powered weapons to the military has worked elsewhere to eliminate the opportunity for mass shootings.

I read the post where scrubologist was making fun of me —hypocritical and surprising after she stated that is not what she wanted their safe space to be—I won’t be going there again, they don’t think that they name call or are insulting to anyone, yet they continue to do it. I don’t follow a single pea here, nor do I have anyone blocked. I do like reading both sides and will continue to absorb what both sides put out, I appreciate and learn from all sorts of perspectives. I never go into a thread thinking “hey, I’m going to go detail this” but I do agree it’s frustrating to allow misinformation and alternative facts be bandied—facts do matter as does context. I realized a lot over the last few days of reading posts and hope to put forth what I’ve learned more productively.

Good for Ed Henry.

Commerce Dept.’s new mantra: No representation without documentation?BY REP. VICENTE GONZALEZ (D-TEXAS), OPINION CONTRIBUTOR — 04/04/18 02:30 PM EDT THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY CONTRIBUTORS ARE THEIR OWN AND NOT THE VIEW OF THE HILL Last week, the Department of Commerce took a step backward that can only be described with a new mantra: ‘no representation without documentation.’Many are unaware that Title 13 of the U.S. Code guarantees the privacy of all responses to the Census and even prohibits information from being shared with immigration enforcement or law enforcement agencies. This would protect answers to a citizenship question, and it is my duty as the congressman for the area to educate people about the protections afforded to them through this federal statute. However, since this is not widely known, and given the current political climate, individuals in the 15th District of Texas and across the country are likely to be concerned. ** The departments of Justice and Commerce have argued this action will help prevent voter fraud in an effort to ratify their decision. I agree that we should be taking steps to protect voting rights, prevent fraud and protect the integrity of the democratic process, but I believe we must do so in a way that does not damage other institutions or processes that are part of the very foundation of this country. ** thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/politics/381636-commerce-depts-new-mantra-no-representation-withoutHow can this help prevent voter fraud (which is documented as minimal), IF sharing of the information is prohibited other then as a count of people and where they live for funding and representation?

"The Atlantic reported Tuesday that Pruitt asked the White House to give his senior counsel Sarah Greenwalt a raise to $164,200 from $107,435, and his scheduling director Millan Hupp a raise to $114,590 from $86,460, but the White House rejected the request. Since they are political appointees, the White House must approve such raises." "Hupp also helped Pruitt search for apartments during off-hours, the Washington Post reported." thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/381646-pruitt-says-he-didnt-know-about-staffers-controversial-pay-raisesI guess that was a bonus for Hupp who helped Pruitt find an apartment.. Seems Pruitt doesn't really have to squirm, he has had far more bad press this past week then even dt has had. And dt has told him that he(dt) has his back! Right! Where are the adults who have the power of NO?!?! this morning on the Progressive Sirius channel, someone asked what I guess is kind of a rhetorical question- the discussion was about how Congress isn't doing the 'checking' part of the whole 'checks and balances' thing, to stop the President from overreaching. (in that, Trump talks about just 'doing' the line-item veto somehow, even though the courts have ruled against it, or if the Supreme Court tells Trump he has to talk to Mueller, and he just decides that No, he's not going to.) The discussion went kind of like this: "I'm betting the Founding Fathers didn't foresee a circumstance like this, because they wrote rules so that the three branches of government would act as checks and balances, one against the other, so none of them could overstep. But what happens if one (or two) branch of government DOES overstep their authority, and the other branches of government DON'T step in to stop them??" Because that's kind of like what seems to be happening now- Trump has done any number of things, that in past administrations, would clearly have been seen as impeachable offenses, and he would have been stopped long before now. What happens if Congress or the Supreme Court just doesn't stop him ??

linkCNBC... “John Bolton runs into potential ethics issues before he becomes Trump’s national security advisor”
From the article... “John Bolton, who is days away from becoming President Donald Trump's national security advisor, has been meeting with White House attorneys about possible conflicts of interest, CNBC has learned. The exact sticking points for Bolton are unclear, but ethics experts say the appearance of a possible future role for Bolton with an entity such as a political action committee could be a cause for concern for White House officials. Bolton's PAC and super PAC, which are no longer receiving or spending capital, have been financial players in the early going of the midterm election cycle. White House lawyers and Bolton continue to discuss and review any potential conflicts of interests for the former U.N. ambassador, sources with direct knowledge of the matter told CNBC on the condition of anonymity. A spokesman for Bolton, however, said that there haven't been any issues.” Well of course he does, just about everyone trump picks turns out to have some issue that stop them from getting a security clearance.

The Hill.. “WATCH: Woman asks Cruz to take a DNA test to prove he's human hill.cm/HEicfPI” Now that is funny. 😀 From the article.... A woman confronted Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Tuesday night by asking him if he would take a DNA test to prove he was human. The confrontation was captured in video and uploaded to YouTube. In the video, the woman, who identified herself as Tammy Talpas on YouTube, read from a statement claiming she has multiple pre-existing conditions and would be "bankrupt" or killed by being forced into a high-risk health insurance pool. She then asked, "Will you pledge to submit to a DNA test to prove that you're human." The video was first noted by a reporter at The Texas Tribune. Well, m'am, thank you for that, and one of the great things about our democratic system is we can treat each other with respect and civility," Cruz responded.Cruz has advocated for allowing insurance to separate pools by high-risk and lower-risk clients, including as recently as last year during the Senate GOP's fight to pass legislation to replace the Affordable Care Act.“ Was this woman rude in what she said to Cruz? Maybe. But Cruz’s bill does not show either respect or civility to folks in her condition. Quite the opposite.

I really dislike the way President Trump is going after an America company, in this case Amazon. They are not breaking any laws. If they are, let the legal system handle it. I just heard him mention they are taking away businesses from mom and pop stores and Main Street is closing up. So, will he go after Wal-Mart next??

Here's a question for you...
If one did not vote for Trump but supports everything/defends him on a daily basis, would you consider that person a Trump supporter or not?
Interested to see the answers.
Also, I can't understand the people who state that there is NO PROOF of Trump's wrongdoings or that he has no compassion. Umm what rock are they living under? The idiot mocked a DISABLED MAN on live tv for Pete’s sake! If that doesn't prove it, I don't know how to respond anymore.

I really dislike the way President Trump is going after an America company, in this case Amazon. They are not breaking any laws. If they are, let the legal system handle it. I just heard him mention they are taking away businesses from mom and pop stores and Main Street is closing up. So, will he go after Wal-Mart next?? No...because the Walton family does not own a newspaper that shows his flaws, nor I believe, are they richer than Trump. He is going after Amazon because of nothing but personal feelings and envy.
