23 years in childhood home. 2 years in college town. 5 years in rent house with roommate. 7 years in current home.
I hate moving/packing/getting settled. Though I think I’m going to move in the next few years to a different area of town. My house is ranch style, which is what I grew up in also. I don’t hate it but, I’ve always loved the cottage style and mission style. The neighborhoods just northwest of me are filled with those styles all from the 1920-1940s. A lot have been renovated and are way pricey but there just as many that are in price range and lower that just need a little refreshing.

Wow, I guess my current home is the longest - almost 18 years.
My folks are still in the home they bought in 1971. When I left for college, I came home for a summer or two, but then I was off in rented apartments. I lived in several states in my early 20's, then I landed in NY with DH. We lived in several apartments in two states, ranging from a luxury high-rise to a mouse-infested tenement (the latter while we were saving up to buy a place). We finally bought our current home when I was pregnant with my now HS senior.
We won't be moving unless the monthly fees climb beyond our means (which could happen when we retire). This place is a little too small for us and all the kids + dog, but it will be lovely and not too big as an empty nest.

I'm with you. We don't love where we are, but we keep choosing to stay here, so there you go. It's part not wanting to change, part not wanting to actually move, part wanting to spend our money on something other than a new house, and part not ever finding something (that we could afford) that we loved enough to change out minds about everything else.

I lived in my childhood home from birth to 19. I spent 18-24 living in dorms, apartments, military housing. My parents lived in my childhood home for 23 years, sold it when I was 19, and have been living in the house they bought ever since (21 years now). I don't see them leaving unless they have to.
My grandma lived in the house my grandpa built in 1950 until her death in 2015. That was the only house my mom knew.
Dad moved a few times as a kid. His parents bought their last house together shortly before I was born. His dad stayed there until he died 20 years later. I think his second wife still lives there.

I'm 40 and the longest I've ever lived in one home is 3.5 years. Because I moved so much as a child, I actually enjoy moving. Packing everything up, starting fresh... it's an adventure. I'll be hitting 4 years in the same home soon, and DH and I are already talking about moving, lol.

We’ve been in our current house for almost 14 years. I don’t think it’s anything special - but it’s paid off and in an amazing school district so we are staying out for now. Once boys go off to college though we are out of here!

I lived in my parents' second house for 12 years (5 years for the first one). After that, it was dorms and then apartments for several years, moving every 1-2 years. DH and I have had three houses. We lived in the first for 8 years and the second for 7 years. Three years in the current place.

My childhood home, 18 years. I lived in it from aged 6 to 24 when I moved out on my own.
My current home, it will be 30 years this fall. I don't like to move. When I need to move from my current home I'll probably need therapy, chocolate and wine!

I lived in one house growing up. As an adult (not college student) I've lived in four houses in a similar area.
My parents have lived in the same house for 40 years

This is the home I designed and had built 25 years ago. We plan to eventually move to something on one level though we have all the essentials on the main level of this home. I also want less yard to maintain and to be closer to restaurants, shopping and social activities. I lived in my parents house for 21 years so this is the longest I've been in one home but there were only 2 places in between.

We were in our first home from 1986 to 2010. We then became empty nesters and the house across the street became available...so we moved there and have been there for the last 8 years with no plans to move any time soon. I grew up on a corner house - and one of the corner houses moved to another corner house. It was interesting to see them move all of their household contents with just one wheelbarrow and one dolly (quite a few trips). I lived in my childhood home (26 years) until I got married. My parents are still there and will never move. I've been in my married home for 21 years, and have no plans to move. I love my home, but not the location (neighbors are good). The idea of early retirement is more appealing than having a home in a better location. It was actually quite comical to watch us move. First we got rid of the things that we were not going to move, so every morning we had a "following" of people that would pick up what we were "donating". We were very happy to see it go to people who could use it, or sell to support their family. One morning there was a fake sword fight between two people complete with sombreros... all of which they found in the donation pile. The police would literally stop traffic for us while we took each dolly of household goods from one side of the street to the other

We built our home on land that has been in DHs family for over 200 years. We moved into our home in 1987. I have no intention of moving out until they carry me out feet first.

We've lived in our current home for the past 20 years. And it's the longest I've ever lived in one place in my life. I'm 57. Before I lived here I moved every 2-3 years or more. So in 57 years I'd moved 28 different times. (I counted them up one time). Or to put it another way I've lived in 28 different places.
It does feel totally weird to live here for so long and I've had the twitching feeling to move for a very long time but I think that's just old habits. Luckily I love this town and this neighborhood. I wouldn't even mind staying in this house. I really like our house. DH also wants to stay here and wouldn't mind staying in this neighborhood. What he wants is a double lot and to be further away from the main road into the neighborhood. Our neighborhood is over 100 years old, has mature trees (which I love) and is on a peninsula that juts out into the Chesapeake Bay. I really love it here and we're fortunate to have found our house when we did. Basically it was just luck.
We need to do a bit of fixing up to this house before we are ready to put it on the market. We plan to get it ready to sell in 2-3 years if the market is still good and we find a house we like. I don't mind moving at all. Like another Pea said I've done it so much it feels like an adventure to me. I wouldn't mind finding a different neighborhood either as long as it's water privileged which around here means a boat pier, a community beach or water access.

Nope....I am a stay put person too! My parents built their home in 1952, and I still own it. I live in another state now, but lived in my former home for 17 years, and our new home for 4 now. I tell my kids they'll have to roll my cold dead body out of here.

We built our house the year our twins were born in 2002, so coming up on 16 years. (We barely beat them...we moved in on Father's Day weekend and they were born on July 4th!)
We moved a lot when I was growing up and I love that our boys have lived in the same house their whole lives. I can't wait to see them bring their wives/babies back home to visit some day.

We have lived in our current home the longest-25 years. It is far from perfect. It is in need of a good overhaul inside and out. We were empty nesters and 2 of 3 of our adult children bounced back. It does hold us all and is in a good area.

I'm 50yo and I have only lived in 2 houses my entire life. I lived in my childhood home until I was 29 (my dad was working overseas for several years so it was just me and my brother). And I've lived in my current house for 21 years. ETA: I would buy another house in a heartbeat if we could afford it. But alas, school fees have killed that dream.

We’ve been in our current home for 18 years. We love our neighborhood but can’t retire in this house. No first floor master or tub/shower. We are looking for a new home now. Dh wants acreage (5 or more) and a ranch style house
