My son had a mild concussion and wasn’t able to go to school, read, use a computer, watch tv for at least a week.
It sounds like you need to be relaxing and letting your brain heal. But I am also sure that they are going to be even more careful since it is a workman’s comp issue. And those also take more time for appts, getting cleared, etc. Don’t worry about getting back to work right now.

Many, many hugs. I hope you see this in a week or so, when you're feeling better.
You will be on my mind.

Dani, gentle hugs, my friend.
Now, listen to the collective voice of the peas and no. more. screen. time. until cleared by your docs.
The effects of concussions are cumulative- each one takes longer to recover from. Try to see a neurologist that specializes in traumatic brain injuries. And please follow his or her recommendations.

Worrying about you and hope we don't hear from you until you're cleared by your Dr. to use electronics again. I'm so sorry this happened but stop and take care of yourself now.

This is why you need to see a neurologist. Protocol for a brain injury is strict rest. A concussion or TBI will change the brain chemistry. There's nothing to feel bad about. No screens (phone/TV/iPad/computer... nothing) until your symptoms resolve. Really, a dark, silent room is your best friend right now. Studies show that the more you comply with this upfront, the quicker and more complete your recovery will be.
DS had a concussion when he was in HS. I knew it was bad when he was compliant with out complaining about with the screen/light/noise restrictions. He saw a concussion specialist and was put on amantadine, which is a drug for Parkinson's and can help promote healing in the brain. He also took fish oil, recommended by the specialist.
After about 2 weeks, he was allowed audio books for 30 minutes a day, but still in a dark room. It took 6 weeks for him to return to school full time. Yes, it's frustrating. But you have to give your brain time to heal. If you broke your leg, you wouldn't walk on it until it was healed, right? Same thing here. I hope this resolves quickly and you are your old self soon.

ER NP here and I'm currently writing a protocol for concussions for our department. After you read this, get off of all screens, electronics, and don't even read or watch TV. You need to give your brain a break from any and all stimuli for at least 72 hours. Post-concussive syndrome is a real thing and there really isn't a cure for it. The best thing to do is rest and sleep as much as you can and stay WELL hydrated - water, G2 or other low sugar electrolyte supplements. Unfortunately, a concussion can also cause cluster or complicated migraines. If your CT scan is clear, you just need to treat your headaches with ibuprofen / acetaminophen or even a med like Excedrin migraine or some other med with caffeine. Now, get off the screens and get to bed. Yep, to all of that! My daughter had post-concussive syndrome and was out of school for a year in 7th grade. It was her 3rd concussion that caused it, and it was bad. Please, please take care of yourself, and don't be alone! Another great drink to have is Propel. Praying for you as I know how bad this can be for someone. Hugs!

I hope you are reading this six weeks from now because you know you should not have screen time. Of course it's serious! It's a horrible thing to happen. I hope you are not worrying and feeling better by the time you read this - again - six weeks from now!

I hope you are not reading this. I hope you are taking the advice of all the knowledgeable Peas above me and resting in quiet darkness. I would be anxious about getting the reports in too. Don't be. You will not be the one writing them, someone else will. You wouldn't give a trampoline demonstration with a broken leg. That's the effort your brain would be making in order to get the reports in. Sending you best wishes for a gentle recovery.

Hoping you get the rest and healing that you need. I would say keep us posted but I don’t want you coming back before you have healed properly.

Thinking of you. I hope your school district steps up to the plate and does the right thing both for you and other staff in your building. I hope this finds you beginning to heal.

When someone reads this to you - hope you are on the road to recovery. You know as well as anyone: just relax. Let your brain heal. Use this time to reflect, relax, refresh. Breathe. Thinking of you!

I agree with Merge. Are you supposed to be using a computer. Often they recommend no mental stimulation. Please, please take care of yourself! I’m a school psychologists who operates on deadlines and need to finish like six reports. The ER nurse was so appalled she called the head of HR herself and told them under NO circumstances am I cleared to do work related tasks and they better find another school psychologist. I adore her. She’s amazing. GET OFF THE COMPUTER...your brain needs to rest. They are sending you to a neurologist because you have a serious concussion. Forget about work and do everything you are told.

I hesitate to add to this thread because I don't want you reading it! But I wanted to say how sorry I am for your recent loss and for this horrible injury. It would be very frustrating for me to do what was necessary to heal, so I completely understand the need to push against what you need to do to. I love to work and would hate not being able to, but NOTHING else is more important right now than your brain. It's the only one you get. Let it heal. Big hugs, girl. Sleep well.

I hesitate to add to this thread because I don't want you reading it! I had the same thought. But I do want to send my well wishes nonetheless. One of my son's had a bad concussion from getting kicked in the head as a soccer goalie in the last game of his senior year in high school. The symptoms are scary and we are grateful he had a full recovery fairly quickly (after an weekend in the hospital under a neurologist's care).

I'm so sorry this has happened. I hope you are resting now. Like others have said, there is increased concern with each additional concussion a person suffers. I hope you are able to see a specialist soon and can take the time you need to recover. Hugs to you.

I hate to answer anything because you will feel inclined to read new answers. BUT there is so much more known on concussions these days. You MUST take care of you and if this means no screen time then that is what it means. NO SCREEN TIME on anything. You need quiet. No stimulants.
Please take this time to rest and get better. We will all be here later.

I had a skull fracture several years ago and was hospitalized for 3 days, because I became symptomatic. Symptoms don't always present right away w/a concussion. I was under the care of a neurologist, because I was so symptomatic. Years later all is well. It did a little damage to my memory, but nothing that invades life. Do as you're told and stay away from all screens. I agree w/others that your post is not normal for you which tells me that you need to rest in a quiet, dark room.

OMG, Dani! Please listen to your doctors! When you read this, in a few weeks, know that I, too, have been thinking of you and hoping your recovery is quick and easy.
This is not something to mess around with. You must take care of yourself and rest. I work with a woman who suffered a concussion last summer. She has just now, 8 months later, been cleared to work her full hours.

As a nurse, I would be more concerned if they hadn't referred you, even if only as a precaution . Where I worked you would have been referred with far fewer symptoms after an insult to the head of that magnitude .
Sending you prayers x

You need complete brain rest. No phone, no computer, no work, no reading, no driving. Nothing that stimulates your brain at all. Rest and more rest is what you need. Concussions can take awhile to heal, especially if you’ve already had one previously.

Hi all, very brief check in I promise.
Still really bad headache. It’s actually spreading. Vision is bad when I wake up but gets better during the day. I don’t normally wear glssses except to drive at night but they’ve been helping.
This morning I sat on a stool and successfully made pancakes for breakfast. Got up to put the milk away and fell over the same stool. Not sure how I forgot it was there and my balance is so off I couldn’t catch myself. Otherwise I have no appetite and I’ve been losing weight. We think that’s a side effect of the medication they put me on for pain however
Lots of sleeping. Lots. Just woke up from a nap. Going to go back soon.
I’ll let you know what the neurologist says. They did say any major changes and go back to the ER but so far, while I don’t feel amazing, nothing has been ER visit worthy.
Y’all rock.
