I got hit in the front of the head with an object weighing 40-50lbs by a student; I wa sitting against a wall when it happened and my doctor felt I like I also hit my head against the wall when my head went back from the force of the initial hit to the front. I didn’t lose consciousness but lost all awareness of where I was for about 30 seconds. I had zero clue where I was, who was with me, or what happened. When I came to, I laid down and wanted to sleep. Our nurse, my AP, and principal took me to the school clinic. For 24 hours, I had a headache but felt okay. Then everything got bad. Quick. I had facial numbness for several houes, horrible vision, and bad nausea. I am doing okay with those things now.
This is NOT my first concussion so when they refused to clear me for work and told me I had to be cleared by a neurologist I cried for hours. Normally a few days and I’m fine. 72 hours out and lights hurt, my balance is off, no appetite, headache, and I just wanna sleep. Which is what I’ve been doing.
Why a neurologists this time? I’ve had far worse concussions and was cleared to go back on a few days. The doctors kept saying “they’re really worried.” CT scans were clesr; no bleeding no cracks.
I failed every memory they gave me. Couldn’t stand straight with eyes closed. Gave me three words; remember them immediately. Theee minutes later? Ummmmmm. I’m a damn psychologists who gives this test tobkids with concussions. I was SO embarrassed.
Anyone have any clue why a neurologist this time? I’m worried this one isn’t a good one; not that any concussion is but they made that appointment ASAP...

Hon, do you have someone with you? I'm worried for you, too. Your post is full of typos and that's not like you.
Is there a friend or family member who can stay with you until your neuro appt? Maybe take you to the ER if things get worse?

I agree with Merge. Are you supposed to be using a computer. Often they recommend no mental stimulation. Please, please take care of yourself!

My papa just died so things are insane here but my mom or sister have been with me the entire time. My mom is going to thrbappointmemtm with me.
I’m so beside myself right now. When they refused to clear me for work (and it’s workman’s comp so I can’t go until they do) o just cried and cried.
My iPhone is on night vision. Even that is too bright. I’ve slept 14 hours today (they also gave me painkillers).

I can’t speak to treatment plans for you, but my good friend recently went through something similar. He was thrown to the ground while playing park district basketball and hit his head on the court floor. He suffered a very serious concussion (but no detectable brain bleed). He would get dizzy when turning his head. He couldn’t focus, and felt extremely tired. Memory issues. He’s a teacher with me, and he missed nearly five weeks of work. He had to see the neurologist a few times, and had a few tests over those weeks (to make sure he hadn’t developed a serious bleed a few days later, to check status, etc.).
My mom suffered a concussion when she fell and hit her head on the concrete. She hit her head so hard she detached her retina. She felt horrible for a few weeks, and didn’t feel “normal” for nearly three months.
I think everything you’re feeling is normal for a very serious concussion, based on my mom’s and my friend’s experiences. Because you work in a school, you have to keep in mind the strain of the nature of your work physically and mentally. You have suffered a serious brain injury, but you work in a job that requires CONSTANT use of your brain, bright lights, screens, and talking/interaction. You make hundreds of decisions in an hour. That is all extremely taxing on a healthy brain, and yours has experienced trauma.
Please try not to be too worried, and be kind to yourself. Take as much time as you need to heal, realizing it could be a significant amount of time before you feel normal. Brain injuries are serious. Sleep, rest, limit your screen time and chaotic/overly stimulating environments.
I’m sorry you’re going through this.

You may not think it's as bad as your other concussions, but they are thinking with clearer heads and obviously feel you need to address this ASAP. The fact that your memory is still impaired makes this serious enough to warrant seeing a neurologist. Please get checked out now.

I also agree with Merge. You don't sound like yourself. I am also hoping that you have someone with you. I am irritated/angry that your administrators and nurse did not send you to the hospital with those symptoms. Talk about trying to CYA. I think it's a good idea to be checked out by a neurologist. Someone will need to go with you and be there when the doctor speaks with you. Get some rest and I hope you are feeling more like yourself soon.

The neurologist will probably just help you with your symptoms. It can take up to you 6 weeks sometimes for healing (from what I have read, no experience with this).

ER NP here and I'm currently writing a protocol for concussions for our department.
After you read this, get off of all screens, electronics, and don't even read or watch TV. You need to give your brain a break from any and all stimuli for at least 72 hours.
Post-concussive syndrome is a real thing and there really isn't a cure for it. The best thing to do is rest and sleep as much as you can and stay WELL hydrated - water, G2 or other low sugar electrolyte supplements.
Unfortunately, a concussion can also cause cluster or complicated migraines. If your CT scan is clear, you just need to treat your headaches with ibuprofen / acetaminophen or even a med like Excedrin migraine or some other med with caffeine.
Now, get off the screens and get to bed.

The day after my friend suffered his head injury, he came to work (STUPID BOY). He realized he wasn’t well and I agreed to sub for him for his last period of the day. He was logging on to the computer so I could give his students an online test, and he couldn’t even type in his email address to log in. He couldn’t stay awake when sitting at home. Slept for 20 of 24 hours most days. Dizziness, nausea, loss of appetite, neck soreness. These are not unusual symptoms based on what I saw in his case, and it sounds like Dani-Mani’s concussion is similar.
I would say that if symptoms worsen in any way, OP should call 911 for sure.

I am sorry that you are going through this. However...as gently as I can...get off your damn computer!!! You know the protocol. You have to allow your brain to heal. I will be sending positive thoughts for your neuro appt.

How long ago were your other concussions? things have greatly changed in the last few years with more concussion research. Listen to them. You obviously have something going on yet with the memory issues you just spoke of. You can see that. There is nothing to be embarrassed of. It's work comp, so just take care of yourself and heal. It might take awhile. Be patient, and listen to your Dr's.

I agree with Merge. Are you supposed to be using a computer. Often they recommend no mental stimulation. Please, please take care of yourself! I’m a school psychologists who operates on deadlines and need to finish like six reports. The ER nurse was so appalled she called the head of HR herself and told them under NO circumstances am I cleared to do work related tasks and they better find another school psychologist. I adore her. She’s amazing.

You dont want to make things worse by doing things you shouldn't (and the people at Workmans comp dont want you working right now either!).

They should have no expectations of you during this recovery time. I hope you're not reading this, and that you are sleeping.

Each time you have a concussion, it can cause the next one to be even worse. If your impact was like you said it was, you are in for a long recovery. One of dd's friens has had 3 in 3 years. She's 14. Her last one took 6 weeks before she was cleared for physical activity (she's a cheerleader).
Please take care of yourself and stay off the screen!

Oh no, no, no. If you're reading this, hand the iPad to your mom or sister and have them read this thread. Do not look again. Your brain needs rest.
A concussion is a brain injury and if you've had several already, you could develop permanent damage. So just stop already!
And please report back in a few days or weeks when the doctor says it's okay. We love you.

Oh my goodness. I am so sorry this happened to you. I can relate to the stress of needing to get those final reports in, but you have got to focus on you right now. The kids will be okay. They will find a sub for you, and they will be taken care of.
Please rest, take your meds/follow orders, and talk to your drs if you think this is getting worse. I hope you heal quickly!

Concussion damage is cumulative.
You need to see a brain injury specialist. Not just a neurologist.
I am shocked you are not on brain rest.
Take this seriously or you may end up with permanent brain damage. Yes, I am trying to scare you. You get ONE brain.

My thoughts go out to you. I hope that you are feeling better and NOT reading this post. My guess is a neurologist is required because of the severity of the concussion in addition to it not being your first one. I had a friend who has also had multiple concussions and on her last one they required more test and a longer time to recoup. They know what they are doing and are just looking out for you, please follow their recommendations. I am so sorry that this is such a sad time for you with your Papa and now this, but please please take care of yourself. Hugs to you.
