What do you think? I mostly like it. I could do without these judges-I had high hopes for Lionel Ritchie but he never shuts up. Every critique has to be a speech with him. Katy Perry seems to always be trying to get attention and the other guy (sadly I can't even remember his name right now) always has a really blank/dumb look on his face.
As for the top 24, I agreed with almost everyone they picked. But not as much with the top 14. Everyone has a great voice but some seem like of limited (Caleb with his country voice and Cade with his rocker vibe). Is this the point where they start having themes or are they not doing that anymore?

I watch my free concert every week! I agree with you. Katy perry is grating on my nerves. Lionel Richie makes it about him. And that Luke guy spends a lot of time picking his jaw up, but he at least seems genuine.
There were some picks I disagreed with. I think the producers have a lot of power in picking people who will draw audiences.

I'm liking these singers way more than the ones on The Voice this year. I'm not sure what it is about the ones on The Voice but they bore me to death and all of that screaming that some of them do. At least the ones on AI have some personality. They used to do themes each week on AI once the competition starts with the voting. And I love Cade!

Katty Perry is an attention whore, to the level that I wonder if she is sometimes high on something. Cannot stand her.

I'm watching. I liked the judges better during auditions, however, they don't bother me too much. The black background and dust in the air with the bright lights bothers me more! LOLOL
I think they have about 3-4 in the top 14 that were placed for ratings. Unfortunately, they let 3-4 go that were really good.
The format is refreshing. It'll be interesting to see when they have to sing genres that aren't their best. That'll weed them out. I enjoy the nights that it's on, too.

I've been watching this season and I do think a majority of the kids left are pretty talented. There are a couple that I'm ready to see leave.
Katy is such a drama queen however I do think she's the one judge that actually gives true advice. She's pretty open about what she likes and doesn't like. Luke just seems to want to like everyone. Lionel, well, he's a talker.
I'm glad I'm not the only one watching. I felt like I may have been alone in my nerdness.

I'm watching too. Katy is definitely an attention whore. I hate that Lionel calls Katy and Luke "children" just because they are younger than him and like to joke around. It's demeening. As far as the contestants go I agree with alexa11. I like them a lot better than the ones on The Voice this year.

I'm liking the talent better than the Voice but I do wish that the judges would give more criticism. They said tonight that the Idol would be crowned in four weeks???!!!

I so like it Way better thank past seasons!

Lots of agreement here.
Katy Perry is a total PITA attention whore. Lionel Richie talks way too much and repeats himself as though he's a stuck record. Luke Bryan is fine, but maybe too nice. There appears to be some true talent in the final 14 as well as a few that will turn out to be one trick ponies. It's better than The Voice; I am so bored every time I try to watch The Voice. I keep fast forwarding hoping for a great performance. Nada.

I'm a die hard fan & am watching but I never vote. I like the judges but they don't critique anything at all. Very little constructive advice whatsoever. Who are your faves so far? My bottom 4 would be Cade, Garrett, Jonny & Michelle. I was underwhelmed by the singing tonight overall. Plus the stage is so huge & busy with lights, etc. I found it very distracting.

The judges are worthless. And considering the whole Me Too movement, Katy is darned lucky for the double standard because if Lionel or Luke had acted towards any of the females the way that Katy has acted towards numerous guys they would have been booted from the show and vilified in the press.
I agree that the talent on AI this season is better than the talent on The Voice this time. I adore the girl with the short blonde hair. Is her name Maddie? I’ve loved her song choices and I could listen to her sing all night. I really like Cade even though it’s not my kind of music. I think he’s good at that style. They are my top two picks. The tall blonde guy and the dark haired heartthrob guy were picked as easy vote offs so that the people they really want to go thru will go on. I hate that the judges get to pick so many that don’t get enough votes. I find Catie really annoying and I’ll be surprised if she has enough votes but the judges will put her thru.

I started out enjoying this season of the Voice. Then Idol came on and I'm liking it much more than V. Every time they sing, I pick new favorites. I'm one of those saps that go for the sad story lines, as long as they can sing well and I have to "like" them as a person.

We are watching but haven't watched last night's show. We DVR and watch the next day or so. I have been disappointed in this year's show more than past years but am still enjoying it.

I only watch this and the Voice sporadically. I love Kelly Clarkson, but Blake has me exhausted on the Voice. I agree that the talent there isn't as good as AI. Pretty much I agree with zella completely. Katy Perry is truly awful, Lionel started out good and Luke seems to be a sycophant. I'm not a JLo fan, but I really liked the three prior judges. Harry Connick, Jr. (love him!) and even Keith Urban. They all added to the show instead of what these three seem to be doing. Okay, that's just annoying me. I tune in just for the singing.

I'm in the minority as I like the judges. I loved Keith, Harry and Jennifer and I like that this group seems to feed off each other too. I can see where Katy can get on ones nerves. But I still like her. I'm a huge Luke Bryan fan.
I've thought all season that most of the talent this season was terrific. They weeded out some I thought should have stayed and kept some I thought should have gone. But overall it's going to be hard to choose just one. I hope that many will come out with options.

I admit I don't watch every episode, but last night I saw more that I thought, "Ugh" than Wow. In fact, in the world according to me, even the winner of this batch will fizzle.

My impersonation of Lionel is "My friend, let me tell you about when I was in the Commodores." Just, hush already.
I don't watch The Voice, so I can't compare, but I was so underwhelmed during last night's show. I don't think a majority of the top 14 were any good. Maybe the music was too loud so I couldn't hear them very well.
The judges did let a few good singers go (like Effie) and let a few "are you hearing what I'm hearing???" singers through.

The judges are the worst. I like Luke Bryan but he's just too nice to everyone. Katie is horrible, stupid, obnoxious and she offends me when she mocks people's faith. How stupid was that going up to yank a hair out of the rocker guy's head? Her critiques, while she does give some, is so vague its almost useless.
Lionel is also really bad. He seems to tend to favor the singers he personally relates to. He's just a bore. I miss authentic judging.
That being said there are a definitely a few who need to go home. And the sixteen year old with the fabulous hair is so nervous she's hard to watch. I think she needs to come back when she's older, she's too young and out of control with her emotions. She's just way too overwhelmed. She can sing, but last nights performance she could barely eek out the lyrics because her throat kept tightening up. That was so bad.
My favorite is the last girl, the blonde who grew up singing gospel so far.

I've tried to watch a few times, but just couldn't get into it. I watched the first 5 seasons, then stopped. But I did watch the final season & really enjoyed it, so I thought I'd give this season a try. I guess I'm in the minority, but I prefer the artists on The Voice ( the judges, too).

Well that was confusing but maybe it's because I fast forwarded through a bunch of it. They kept saying "after the nationwide voting you aren't in the top 10" but there was only a top 6 at first. So technically, 4 of those people who they said did not make it into the top 10 according to the voting had to have been in the top 10. The math supports it. And didn't they just say, a few episodes ago, that it was the last time the judges would be making the decisions? Why bother voting?

They took the top 6 that America voted for and then judges chose the other 4.

I had a post all typed out about what I am thinking about this season and it flipping disappeared! Ugh! I agree about the judges. They aren't great. So far the predictions I made of who would go through are right on, even if I don't particularly like them as much as some that were already sent home. I love Maddie Poppe, I think she is darling and I love her quirky song choices and her sound.

I love Maddie Poppe, too. i didn't really notice her at first aside from her name being memorable, but these last few weeks I've really enjoyed her. I also really like the blonde country singer... forget his name. Those are my two favorites along with Jurney sp?.

They took the top 6 that America voted for and then judges chose the other 4. I got that. But they kept implying a top 10 when they really meant top 6. The 4 that were saved didn't necessarily have the public votes to be in the top 10. Also I remember them making a point of saying the power is in the votes rather than the judges when that's apparently not always the case.

I think the best 10 got through. I want them to get help with song choices. The judges have commented on it several times.
