Going for a week long business conference. I'll have my laptop. What else do you bring for evening down time? I am flying so was not planning on bringing anything scrappy or crafty.

Nothing, usually. I have all my books on my iPad so I can read whenever, and I may download a couple things from Netflix so I can watch on the plane or in the evening If I decide to stay in. But usually, if I’m traveling, I try to get out a little and explore when I have downtime.

My business travel doesn't take me to the same places on a regular basis so I use the evenings to "explore" Before leaving home I check out the tourist recommendations to see what I can visit after conference hours, then I'm ready to settle in the hotel with a tv movie or open my computer to pea, facebook and go with my usual routine. It helps that I normally travel with a small group so I'm not alone.
eta: come to think of it, after conference hours, the associated vendors have often set up special networking dinners or tours and transportation to places we can go for a nominal fee. Great way to visit an area I wouldn't likely go visit alone.

After spending the day in windowless rooms, I will go for a walk. If the weather isn't great, I head for the hotel gym.
Reading and internet surfing would round out the evening.

Have you ever tried hand-lettering? There are lots of good videos on YouTube and practice sheets you can find. It’s a fun way to be creative without having to take a lot of materials. A notebook and some pens…

I don't read a lot for leisure, so I usually bring a book when I travel-- usually a fluffy little mystery book.

I take my running shoes and go for a run and explore the town. Besides that I have my laptop and iPad for hotel downtime.

My Kindle goes with me! Endless entertainment! and my iPad for internet access!
Also, workout clothes and a bathing suit if there is an indoor pool.

Pretty much the same as the posters above, although I also use the evenings for networking and often have dinners set up with colleagues from the events I'm attending. I also usually have work to do so that I don't get too far behind.
When I do have free time, I find it empowering to be a solo woman traveler exploring a new city. I've gotten over the self-perceived stigma of being alone. I'll check out a restaurant or got to a museum, show, or just wander the town. In Washington D.C. I snagged a great deal on a solo ticket for a show in the balcony of Ford's Theatre. It was amazing to see a show in such an historic (if rebuilt) venue. Last week I was in New Orleans wandering the French Quarter. In January I had a conference in Sanibel Island, Florida and used a free afternoon to go kayaking alone. I ended up coming upon a pod of dolphins that I followed for 15 minutes or so until they outran me--two of them came with 15 feet of my kayak. It is in the top 5 experience of my lifetime--one that I may have missed out on if I were with a louder, chattering group.
Of course, sometimes I'm just pooped from travel and long days and I just watch tv or surf the internet.

I bring an Iris container of scrappy stuff to work on in the evenings. Even if I am not going to full on scrap, I can match paper to other layouts or sketches and make my own sketches. I check Pinterest and find titles and go on the Silhouette site and find images. I usually get three or four layouts done every evening.

Check the Convention & Visitor's Bureau for whatever city your are visiting. Their website should have lots of good ideas for places to go, things to see & do, and often discounts. If you really want to know where to go, give them a call. They will happily tell you all about where the locals eat, what's fun to do, & where to shop. I travel a lot for work, so doing things by myself doesn't bug me anymore. It's fun to do/eat whatever the heck I want. I do a lot of my photo editing when I'm traveling. It's a good way to pass the time trapped on a plane and I'm getting something done I don't particularly love to do. I'll usually bring a sketch book and a limited amount of sketching supplies. Then a book, my laptop, and I call that good. Have fun!

I either go explore the city and try out a new dining option. Or I veg out and enjoy the hotel amenities. After a long day of talking with other people, esp at a conference or on site at a client, I’m ready to hang out solo.
Where are you going? some peas will def be able to help!!

I often go and explore the city I'm in. I'm usually in Paris and although I know the city well, there's always something new to discover. I always bring a book, too. Many evenings are filled with mandatory team or working dinners, too. If I have a chance. I'll go for a run or a swim.

The ideas already mentioned are good and include much of what I do. But I'll add one that hasn't been mentioned. I usually toss a facial masque, cuticle cream, foot care products, and the like in my bag to indulge in a mini-spa experience as well.

A notebook and some pens… I do Zentangle but when we flew to Hawaii last summer, my pens leaked. Thank goodness I had put them in a plastic container within a ziploc bag!

Where are you going? How much down time will you have? I'll be in Mason, OH at the Great Wolf Lodge. No family members are going so I am a bit uncomfortable at the water park by myself. I won't have a car, but will have downtime each evening. I just found out the conference organizers are providing transportation to some shopping centers, but after looking, the shops are not much different than we have here at home.

I always take at least one crafting project with me when I travel... I typically take a smallish-sized journal with a box of random scraps of paper, etc. scissors, a couple pens / markers, and a couple glue sticks, or something similar to that. In addition to using papers you bring in your journal, you can look for images / words / quotes, etc. from the papers you find along your way (I've journaled on the tray table on a plane, before, and used images and words I cut from the in-flight magazine, lol). ETA: I believe you CAN have scissors on a plane as long as the blades are under a certain length- I take a small pair of scrapbook scissors with when I fly, not a full-sized pair. You could also take a small set of watercolor paints and a couple brushes (or a water brush pen), a selection of rubber-stamped or printed images, etc. to watercolor images for a set of greeting cards... A small counted-cross stitch kit? one of the ones that come with the floss and everything included? the only things you'd have to bring separately is an embroidery hoop and needles. Or you could take a set of colored pencils, gel pens, crayons, or markers and a coloring book... My sister got me a 'paint by sticker' book for Christmas last year; it's paint-by-numbers type images with pages of stickers that you place in the spaces to make the image. Paint by Stickers book, on Amazon. I always take at least two different books, a couple magazines, etc. with me when I travel, too. (I don't travel light when it comes to things to do, lol. I'm an introvert so I need my 'alone' time even if I'm visiting family.)

My job typically only takes me to Pittsburgh and sometimes New Jersey. Depending on the time of year, I’ll go running outside or hit the gym. I’ll try to score tix to a pirates game or just hang in the hotel and read.
