My husband has a product that is a guitar pedal with a window in the front with a word cut out of metal and they put a piece of vellum behind the word so that the colored lights will show through when you play with it. He said they've been spraying the vellum on the edges with spray paint and using that to hold it on and it is curling while they're making it.
I said, "Well first, you need a strong adhesive two-sided tape to put it on the metal and secondly, you need thicker vellum."
Now I have bought some thick vellum before but I don't know where it came from. Does anyone know what the thickness is of regular really thin vellum and the thickness of a thicker kind? I think Hero Arts and Bazzill both make thicker vellum but I need to find some online for him to try and buy.
Can anyone advise? Thanks!

Do you have a michael's nearby? Or an art supply store? Because I think that you might find some in the art department. (I had some in a pad, like a watercolor pad, but I got rid of it so I don't know who made it.)

I use Blick for purchasing that type of art supply. They have various types of vellum, and they may specify the thickness in the detailed description. Blick vellumAnother product that I use for laser printing is Casey's Translucency from McLogan Screenprinting Supply. It's similar to vellum but sturdy like film. I hope that helps.

I also needed vellum and never thought of Blick.

Tracie, I checked Scrapbook.com and their Bazzill vellum is 21 lb. weight. Not sure if that's what you have used in the past. I bought a package of vellum at Michaels recently that is a "signature special" line, meaning it's a name brand (probably American crafts?) just rebranded under their Recollections brand, and that vellum was 27 lb and felt like a pretty decent weight to me (not as flimsy as what you'd get when you buy the individual sheets). Maybe you could check that out?

Why not use frosted stencil plastic instead? That wouldn't warp at all when painted but is still thin and similar to vellum. Just a thought.

Stampin Up vellum is the thickest I've ever used--noticibly more thick than any other brand.

You might want to look for a Paper supply company, we have one here in Vegas and I was able to get an entire ream of vellum; when I went, they had all kinds of different weights and opacity.

Thanks all!! What I really want to know is what pound the thickest vellum is. I think a stamper would know. I may have to e-mail Jennifer McGuire - she is a vellum expert.
I did tell him he could use a transparency and he didn't even understand what that was. LOL!

TracieClaiborne Papertrey Ink stock the thickest vellum I'm aware of. It's a similar weight to their card stock and can be used for card bases so must be around 100lb weight. Not sure if you can find something similar through another source?
