Last night I tried a new pumpkin bread recipe that I found on Pinterest. It is so good but, made two loaves. It's just my daughter and I home this week and I don't need to eat all of it! (And I will if it's here!! ) I decided to give one away but then I got to thinking, my neighbor is gluten free. My girlfriend is egg free. I was going to send it to school with my daughter but know that two of her classmates are gluten free.
It's so sad that so many people have gluten, dairy, egg, and nut issues!
I miss the days when people just ate what they wanted!!

I don't want to eat eggs and dairy. I DO eat what I want. I just don't eat what YOU want me to eat! Freeze one for later. I didn't mean that in a bad way.
Two of my kids are on special diets for a liver disease that they have. I know that it's a hard row to hoe sometimes. That is why I didn't send it to school because I know that there are gluten free kids there. My kids can't eat chocolate (one of many things) When my daughter was younger she would come home from school sad because Sally had a birthday and her mom brought chocolate cupcakes.

It is frustrating, particularly because so many are on the anti-gluten/dairy/egg thing as a trend, not for actual health issues. Thankfully I have a good set of friends who aren't on that boat and just eat everything moderately. I will bake for my gluten-free friends when they ask, but they aren't assholes about being gluten-free/vegan... which I am grateful for because I seem to run into more GF assholes these days.

And there's the whole "I don't eat anything from someone whose kitchen I haven't seen" thing. I didn't know that WAS a thing until I came to 2 Peas. Wonder about all those dozens and dozens of homemade goodies I sent in to teachers over the years.

I can still do that, I even have a huge Christmas cookie party every year and am wiped out of cookies before the guy in the red suit comes to town.
I have one friend who is gluten free because of an allergy, and he was gluten free long before it became a trend. He loves that it is trendy now, he has so many more options available to him that weren't easy to get just five years ago.

I say eat how you need to and STFU. For those of us with severe food allergies, you have to ask questions in restaurants. For example, my DH is crazy allergic to anchovies and will react to them in Worcestershire sauce that is made with them. So we have to find out if it is hiding - in chili, dressing, soup, burgers, and so on. So we are always asking - can I see the ingredient list, I have an allergy. You have to ask and you have to say that you have an allergy. Asking the question is how you "eat how you need to" and it is not really so simple to STFU.

I thought about cutting it in half but since it was my first go at this recipe I decided to just go with the directions. I will have to say that it is really good pumpkin bread!!

Not all are assholes. The ones who are doing because they want to be trendy and part of the latest trends and those who can't shut up about how they eat and how everyone who doesn't eat like them and how horrible someone is to even consider feeding anyone that crap laden food that will kill you because it's poison... those are the assholes. Been there. Done that. Bought the t-shirt multiple times. People with true allergies? Not assholes. Well most of them aren't. A very tiny subset of allergy sufferers are asshole about it, but those are far and few between.

Cook for my mother. Granted, she's in her 90's but she can't have seeds, she thinks chocolate bothers her, she won't have a donut because she had a gall bladder attack after eating one 25 years ago. (since had her gallbladder out). Won't eat onions in anything, thinks dairy gives her diarrhea. So needless to say, the menu is limited when we eat with her.

I am lucky. DH works with a bunch of guys who will clean the refrigerator in 5 minutes of every morsel of food. I send things like this in with him if I want to get something out of the house that I don't want to eat. Sometimes I will make a cake because I want cake. But, I don't want a WHOLE cake and DH doesn't eat cake. I eat what I want and send the rest to work with him.
In the case of the Pumpkin Bread, I bet it would freeze well. Also, you know you need to post the recipe.

Luckily, the guys at my dh's office are gluttonous pigs. He can take anything in and it disappears within an hour. lol Seriously, I sent in a huge bowl of cherry tomatoes - ate 'em like candy.

It takes to you to a blog called the Streaming Gourmet. The big difference I noticed in this recipe than others that I have tried is that is doesn't call for oil it calls for butter. Oh and not to forget 3 (yes, three) cups of sugar!!!

Then there is the Facebook friend who admonishes just about everything everyone else eats. I crack up when all of a sudden there is bad news about one of *wonderful* products she's been raving about. To me, it's all about moderation. Yeah, I'm going to die some day but so is she. I hope I go out with some glaze from a glazed donut on my lips. (For the record, I haven't had a glazed donut in about 5 years but you get the point. )

I have been very lucky, even at our camping trip with extended family we didn't have any announced food issues.
Even with my friends we only have one person that brings her own food to events and she doesn't make a big deal out of it.

Ann I can relate to your mom on the doughnut thing - I had a gallbladder attack after drinking a cup of coffee, and I rarely drink coffee now. It is linked in my mind to severe pain. The chocolate and dairy could be related to the gallbladder, too.

So at least I'm not an asshole. But maybe I am because I don't eat the way I do due to allergies. I CHOOSE to live my life this way. From what I've read above, that makes me an asshole.
