PL can totally be scrapbooking! You just don't want to listen to Becky's ideas on it because she tells the people who want to essentially create mini layouts in several pockets instead of one large page that they're doing it wrong because PL is 'supposed to be' a photo in one pocket and a card in another...who has time for embellishments these days! I agree. Project Life is totally scrapbooking. There can be a very negative view of it and elitism as to what is considered scrapbooking and what isn't but if you have your photos printed out, some paper goods (even something as basic as white cardstock) and are having fun putting it together in a creative way, no matter how elaborate or minimalist the process and/or end results are, you're scrapbooking. The old-timey SBers sure didn't stick die-cuts and enamel dots and whatnot on their pages.

I learned to adjust it to my own liking.

I learned to adjust it to my own liking. I think her rigidity and refusal to give the consumers what they wanted was a big part of her downfall. When she said it could only be rounded corners and that embellishments weren't needed, kit clubs said 'here are squared corners and coordinated kits complete with embellishments' and the creative people flocked toward it. For everyone else, PL was a fad (just like planner decorating is right now) that was short lived. She wanted to appeal to everyone except those who have spent years papercrafting. She ignored us and seems to be scratching her head as to how she could possibly have fallen so far, so fast.

I'm not worried about Becky though. She's made good money. And she's still part of the American Crafts family.

I always wonder if people who think PL isn’t “real” scrapbooking have a clue about the origins of this hobby. If you look at vintage scrapbooks, they look more like PL than what we consider “traditional” layouts. There’s room for all of us under the scrapbooking/memory keeping tent.

For when one page isn’t enough but a 12x12 album is too much.

I consider myself a scrapbooker and I do strictly project life. I just don’t pay attention to naysayers. I do feel Becky hurt her bottom line by being so rigid with her definition of project life. She needs to listen to what people want.

There's something so satisfying about collecting memories on-the-go as they come and not waiting for supplies, inspiration, etc. It's small-scale but it adds up to a very complete collection at the end of the year.

I used to tear out Becky’s sketches and save them. I left scrapbooking around 2011 and it was Project Life that brought me back into it in 2013. I truly appreciate the contributions that she’s made to the craft but lately it’s been a train wreck and pretty distasteful to see the direction things are heading. I used to do the same thing. When she first launched project life she asked people to post photos with their boxes. I had so much fun just participating! Now.....

Project Life type monthly kits are hugely popular. Why doesn't BH swoop in and create her own? Surely she can tap into the existing PL market that she helped create! She created PL, doesn't bother to use the products she designs, then attempts to break into the clothing/DIY/party planning/home decor market(s). Her business model doesn't make any sense to me at all.

I remember when Becky first came out with Project 365, which was the precurser to Project Life. It was a kit that Becky created for Creating Keepsakes. The demand was so huge that the Creating Keepsakes website crashed and the phone lines were jammed. It was a huge PR nightmare for CK and it seemed like CK threw Becky under the bus. I was a newcomer to the CK forum at the time and I was drawn in by the drama. I have to say that at the time I was impressed with how Becky handled the fallout. She was very apologetic and communicated status updates at a time when CK went silent. She formed her own company to offer the product that was so in demand and renamed it Project Life. Somewhere along the line she lost her customer focus and business sense. Would you believe that I still have a bunch of the Project 365 kit left? I made it through August and then Idk what happened but I LOVED that project /kit.

Ok, I had to dig around my old blog pics on my Google Drive. I was so excited about getting that Project 365 kit when it came out that I blogged about it the day I got it! Please excuse the over-edited photos as if you all remember that was when throwing a vignette filter on everything was the in thing to do lol.

Quoting myself to report. Bought two magnetic hangers from Amazon for dh guitar posters. They came yesterday. He loves them. Super simple, go w/the artwork and great quality. The wood pieces have a bit of feltish material to be gentle on the artwork they're clamping. Highly recommend.

Why did she insist in keeping the rounded corners? I feel like that doesn't make a lot of sense when the square corners are what everyone is into, and especially because square corners can always be rounded, but not vice versa.
I don't really follow Becky the person, but I love, love, love the Project Life format. It's what got me into scrapbooking.

On Instagram today, we were told of a SALE: "Friends in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain & France ... this is for YOU! 😘🙌🏻 We have lots of items (over 50!!) on sale in YOUR Amazon! 25% off for a limited time! Stone Wrap, Simple Notebooks, Project Life Core Kits, Albums" Well, I'm none too worried about the stonewrap or the simple notebooks but I could be tempted by a good price on a PL kit or something if the price is right. Except that following the link to the Amazon page where nothing is discounted at all prompts a few comments. Oh, and take a close look at the map! (another way to get a few European people commenting, I suppose) sleepingbooty did you realise how far France has stretched? Anyway, the answer of the day, repeated ad nauseam seems to be "Sorry about that! Please email customerservice@beckyhiggins.com so Toni can look into that with you (on Monday)" and "Hope you’re able to look past the mis-shaped map and enjoy the sale!" Errrrmmm….what sale would that be then?!

Oh, and take a close look at the map! (another way to get a few European people commenting, I suppose) sleepingbooty did you realise how far France has stretched? *gets back from short summer break* *loads washing machine* *fires up laptop* *checks weather, news and 2Peas* WHAT. THE. HELL. IS. THAT. MAP.
No, seriously, who picked that map? This is Europe at *some* point under Napoleon I, I'm pretty sure. That's the only time France had its full hexagon shape + part of Italy + licked all the way up to Denmark (for a very short while) (also, that makes the most sense considering the Kingdom of Italy Napoleon established in N-E Italy). The Roman empire did go all the way up to Denmark and had a similar shape at some point but Italy wasn't broken up back then, of course, so that's out... How hard is it to get a current map of Europe? Seriously? Here's to hoping she doesn't travel to Europe anytime soon or she'll be in for a shock. "What's this country I am in? Germany? Germany. It *does* ring a bell, I say. Hmmm... That's still around? Not annexed to France?"
Becky and her crew are so dumb. There's not even a reason for amazon.de to exist according to this map. Also, what sale? I just checked amazon.fr and I see a few (really not a lot) things " barely on sale." I went through all the pages and literally ONE BH item qualifies for her 50% off sales pitch! ONE WHOLE ITEM. Woohoo. Shall I send over a congratulatory balloon?

sleepingbooty, you already know the answer: "Sorry about that! Please email customerservice@beckyhiggins.com so Toni can look into that with you (on Monday) Hope you’re able to look past the mis-shaped map and enjoy the sale!" (and yes, historian dh said "Napoleonic" too - but only in some areas...)

My life has slowed down drastically the last few years. I don't have it in me to document a whole page of a new restaurant we went to. I'd rather document that restaurant, a random book read, something funny my kid said, and get it done quickly. I have about three years in one album! It is NOT a weekly 2 page spread for me! If there's a photo/s that I love, I will do a special page.

I think it'd be too time consuming/silly to make fancy pages for every little detail that I want to preserve, and yet a lot of those little details are I think worth preserving. I can remember when this song came out and I had it on repeat, this recipe I was always making, when I went to this park near the old house every weekend, what was in the news at the time, etc.

I also love PL scrapping. I can spend lots of time creating and decorating a pocket card to fit the story I am telling, or just slap a themed card from a kit in place if I don't have the time or inclination to create. It definitely works for me.

That should have been corrected and reposted. These morons left it there and haha just look past the map for the sale! Tee her! We’re so silly! I wish Becky would f*ck off already. That wasn’t funny and I thought it was very disrespectful to a HUGE chunk of her market.

I will say that if it wasn't for Project Life (and Becky Higgins) I wouldn't be scrapbooking. I was never a traditional scrapbooker but once my third baby was born and I had books of small slip-in photo books filled, it was becoming overwhelming due to the sheer number of small books I was accumulating. I was also printing EVERY PHOTO on my camera back then. The photo books were also becoming harder to find (2011) and I had dabbled in digital drop-in templates and ready order books but the quality was lacking. I saw Project Life on a blog I was reading and was instantly drawn to it as a solution for documenting my kid's childhoods. At that time the "turquoise kit" was out and it was beautiful quality and vibrant colors. I loved working with it. I remember when her products would go up on Amazon and you had to snatch them up within an hour before they would be gone again for weeks. It was sort of exciting to grab something back then, now I find it more annoying with AE, hmmm!
My first Project Life books in 2012-13 were very, very simple. I later tapped into my creativity as I found what works and have now evolved to a more Ali Edward's style. I document my kid's lives as well as our family album which I just started doing 3 years ago. I will say I LOVE those PL albums. Seeing those truly "everyday" memories makes me burst with happiness and for me it's SUCH a good reminder to get out of my head and be grateful for this life unfolding in front of me.

I have the funniest story about this French map. DH & I were looking at the paint splatter hanging trying to figure out why you were all so upset about France being misrepresented. DH & I really studied this paint splatter hanging and we were not seeing it. Then my iPad scrolled down accidentally and there was the real map, ROFL! Yes, Becky really stretched out France there. Wow, my beautiful French girls, you are back to Napoleon days, ROFL. I love how she said Hey UK and threw in all the other European countries. We all know back in the day Britain wanted to own everything but I don't think Becky's history teacher told her that didn't happen, lol. I hope she doesn't go to France someday and ask where Buckingham palace is located. You know I am being cheeky girls. In all seriousness did anybody call her on it? Did anybody post on her IG "Thanks Becky for the great sale but are you wanting us to shop it or Marie Antoinette and Jospehine? "Just asking what time period this sale is for?"

Oh yes, @amayalylac we commented on her IG and all had the same basic reply - I posted it above in a link to sleepingbooty . It wasn't just France btw, it was almost every country in Europe, including Spain (though the Catalan people might feel encouraged) Italy's borders were significantly moved and Belgium and the Netherlands are not there at all. More importantly, the "sale offers" were not visible on the Amazon page she linked to - to be able to view them, we had to click on the item first - only then would the discount be revealed. Now, who has the time to go clicking through to every single item, I ask you? I tried two (just to see if it was so) and then moved right along to something else I wanted to do. What a way to increase sales and run your business, eh? (forgot to say, loved the paint splatter story!)
