OK. I wasn't going to comment on those annoying (to me) "aspirational" signs. Yes, there's a new batch. And apparently women's home decor, like women's t-shirts now needs to admonish the world and/or make it feel better. "Smile" "You're terrific!" "Life is happy", etc. etc. I'm so sick of it being women's job to make the world a better place while men's shirts, by and large, celebrate zombies, death, video games, etc. But, that's a whole other topic. But when the stupid "aspirational" signs are false and DETRIMENTAL - then I'm gonna say something. Take, for example, this innocuous-sounding yet nefarious "message" Get that everyone?! YOU GET what you have the COURAGE to ASK FOR! So, if you've GOT leukemia, assault/injury, etc, I guess you didn't have the COURAGE to ask for no leukemia, not to get assaulted/shot, etc. These stupid slogans are bad enough when they're not being outright harmful and infantile.

How many people in the world are hungry? Need some form of shelter or place of safety? For heaven's sake...with you all the way on this one @zingermack

Sometimes. And sometimes you get an absolute sh#($ life because of NOTHING you did or didn't do. Google uterine fistula in the developing world. Google children w/bone cancer. Google earthquakes. Google reality.

I’m a very happy glass half full person. But inspirational, aspirational, and self-care make me grind my teeth. I also get really frustrated with the be kind/lift other women thing. It’s usually in response to any sort of criticism, even constructive. Women are not fragile beings who have to be shielded from the negative aspects of life (especially if you are putting your life in the public sphere for pay). We should be encouraged to examine if the criticism is warranted or prove our detractors wrong. That is how you lift women up.

Totally "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" bullshit. Tell that to the people working 3 minimum wage jobs and still can't pay rent. Just gross.

IMHO the ignorance/vanity of advocating success is something you're given rather than earned fits the definition of an "aspirational" message. Congratulations, BH!

PL is now in Staples? Anyone find this a little odd? I just went to check it out. They have an arts and crafts category and scrapbooking falls under that. They have doodlebug, echo park, k&company, etc. Interesting. Is it only available online? We don't have a b&m Staples here any longer so I can't check.

Looks like it's all online. Free shipping if you spend $50. Looks like older merchandise, but it's a pretty broad assortment.

elegantsufficiency That is a rude response from Becky and I would have been furious. She is trying to pull "I am a cute airhead" stunt for mistakes. You all should have told her "We are working Mom's and don't have time to click on each item!" "Since our country is not represented or misrepresented we can not shop from your sale anyway." That sign! OMG! Is that Becky's? Somebody needs to call her out hard on that one if it is? Girls I am telling you that is going to show up on our products soon. They just always make it so easy for us NOT to buy from them. I am so mad about that sign. I will be good and not say what I am really feeling. It would be as ugly as that sign. I bet Staples got a licensing from American Crafts to sell "scrapbook" items. Those items are super popular in the journaling and planning community right now. Staples is a popular store for a lot of planner girls.

@amayalylac I guess she had the courage to ask someone to post that map and sale notice for her - and look what she got!

I guess they didn't have the courage to ask God/Aphrodite/the Flying Spaghetti Monster to be allocated a white, rich family to be born into before descending from heaven/the holy pasta bowl to experience earthly life?

Oh yes, @amayalylac we commented on her IG and all had the same basic reply - I posted it above in a link to sleepingbooty . It wasn't just France btw, it was almost every country in Europe, including Spain (though the Catalan people might feel encouraged) Italy's borders were significantly moved and Belgium and the Netherlands are not there at all. More importantly, the "sale offers" were not visible on the Amazon page she linked to - to be able to view them, we had to click on the item first - only then would the discount be revealed. Now, who has the time to go clicking through to every single item, I ask you? I tried two (just to see if it was so) and then moved right along to something else I wanted to do. What a way to increase sales and run your business, eh? (forgot to say, loved the paint splatter story!) Belgium and Netherlands not there.... well goodness..... where was I living for four years then?? 😂🤔

You know, I’m sitting here eating a cupcake and I said “there’s not many problems a cupcake can’t fix”. And I’ve used it on scrapbook pages. In jest. I thought of this sign and I wondered if I was being an @$$ by saying that. And then I realized no because a) I’m kidding and b) I don’t have it in my hallway as a mantra for my family.
And cupcakes do solve problems. I was hungry, and now thanks to the cupcake(s), I’m not.

UGH! These inane "aspirational" signs. I thought about them again today when back to school shopping w/DD, who was amused, as usual, about all the "aspirational" girls' clothing. She opted for some plaid button-ups and some snarky tees from Red Bubble instead. But it made me think of BH. And, never one to pass up "aspirations", she had this little gem on IG. Really?!?! Really? How much do you want to "tell the story" when you can't even bear to see the NAMES of STORIES - lest they mess up your neutral on-trend look?!?!?

I remember the days of Project Life by Becky Higgins proselytising. "Get rid of all those albums, all the acid! Save your photos before it's too late! [implied: buy ALL my products!]"

Next was a class at the CK convention in Mesa. Duh...one technique...that was all...fold the corner of your card stock over about two inches and tack it down with a brad...that was it. Did she give out some of her favorite things at this convention? Like maybe a bunch of fake flowers in tones of golds/reds/tans? If so, I was there, too! I so wanted her presentation to be inspiring and it just...wasn't. SaveSave

Back when she was a big celebrity BH was supposed to be a teacher at one of the CKU events. She couldn’t make it, I think she was sick, but she did send for each student an 8 x 8 page divided into 9 squares. Each square had a piece of patterned paper in it, apparently randomly chosen. That was it. “Here you go ladies, Becky wanted to make sure you got her class project.” Had she shown up this would have been an awfully short class. If she threw it together at the last minute it meant she had no lesson plan in mind in the first place. Needless to say we were pretty disappointed.

artistic scrapper: That would have made me sooo mad!!!
I know you said she was sick but am I wrong in thinking she should’ve prepared for this class ahead of time? Makes me wonder if she had been sick for a long time and just couldn’t.

I actually don't mind the idea of aspirational quotes. The phrases they are choosing to go with, however, seem to clearly imply they are not marketing to everyone. To me, it speaks more of her lack of relatability more than anything. The quotes I'm seeing here make me think of people who's biggest problem in life is how to deal with a hangnail. I see 2 types of people who would fit this, people who are high-middle class and up and teenagers with disposable income. The latter are people who are making the likes of Kylie Jenner rich...buying something because of who is marketing it, not because the product is good quality or the business has a stellar reputation (I think Kylie's makeup business is rated an F with the BBB). The problem is that she doesn't have the quality to back her asking prices with the high-middle class people and teenagers don't want home decor, so I see her marketing toward a group that doesn't really exist. I don't know of many people with a lot of disposable income that want to throw their money at expensive low quality crap.

You mean the ugly fake leave things in that vase or the XXXXXXXX sign that really draws your eye you didn't see the inspirational sign. The only reason I saw the sign was because of the ugly leaves. All I keep thinking "Those leaves cost at least $100!" I know girls "Beauty beholder and all that." OMG! Her line is so neutral. I am a jewel tone girl. It is just hard looking at those leaves in the vase and they look so drab like they need a little water, even though they are fake. They need some chlorophyll. I know you girls are like "OMG She is really stuck on those leaves!" ROFL. I know there is least one other girl going "Thank you, I am not the only one who feels sorry for how sad they look!"

Now she is asking people if they would be interested in buying copies of her recipe pages. Personally I am only interested in copies of my own recipes but it sounds like a lot of people are interested in purchasing copies. http://instagram.com/p/BmWW_InA0u1

umm....IF I wanted copies of her recipes, couldn't I print them out myself from her website?
And IF I wanted a binder of recipes, wouldn't I want them to be my OWN tried and true recipes?
Otherwise I would just buy a cookbook
It's not the 70s where you sign up for a pack of recipe cards that come in the mail every month and you get a free binder when you subscribe
