I didn't understand the business decision to make it free. I understand putting it on sale once in a while, but why give it away? I like the app enough that I paid for it (it is the only app I've ever purchased). I've purchased a few kits and the free form text option, but I don't plan on investing too much more. Too many kits=too many choices, which slows me down. My guess was that the app wasn’t selling anymore. Anyone who was interested had already bought it and the only revenue she was getting from it was from in app purchases. She probably figured if she made it free lots of new customers would download it and she would have a larger market to try to sell her in app purchases to? Totally this. The in app purchase potential is HUGE. But she has to get new customers into the app.

Cryptic Instagram post last night about an “honest and transparent” newsletter going out today. Any guesses? Well since she said “something you’re not used to seeing from us” I’m going to guess it’s something she’s already talked about as nauseum. Oh and defending her “working moms” line of crap from the photography class fiasco. Basically I think she’s going to hand slap all of her naysayers.

Well if this wasn’t the biggest pile of WTF ever, I don’t know what is. Who wrote all this? Sara? Becky? Who knows! Who cares!

I guess Becky spams too much in one day... but I think this is the email she was actually talking about:
"I’m not popping in your inbox today to show you a new product, point you to the blog, or tell you about some news. Today is different. I feel inclined to share with you what’s been on my mind and in my heart. Mind if I ramble for just a bit? If you follow me/us on Instagram or Facebook, you are used to seeing tips + tricks, inspiration, new product announcements … that sort of thing. Today I want to share a little insight with you about something you won’t see on social media … but it’s a very significant and crucial part of running this business and it’s a part of ME. Your time is valuable, so I’ll be sure to bring my thoughts full circle so that what I’m sharing can ultimately feel very applicable to YOU.
I’ve spent a lot of time thinking, pondering, strategizing, planning, and praying about this business. This has always been the case over the years, of course, but it really feels like my energy in these areas has been heightened this year. The past few weeks have been “extra thoughtful” and I’ve tried to be even more intentional about my pondering. Here are just a handful of the questions I’ve been pondering: Who are we serving and how can we best serve them?
What is our place — not just in this space of memory keeping but in the world?
What is our purpose — and how can we have MORE purpose?
How can we create the best balance between profitability and generosity?
What are the specific ways we can make a difference and really add value to people’s lives?
Where should I focus my personal time and energy in this business? What adjustments need to be made?
Who are the individuals and organizations that should be involved in our efforts?
I have a great team, great business partnerships, and a great husband. They all know and appreciate that I put a lot of thought into what we’re doing. They also put forth great efforts. They care about the work. That said, I personally carry a responsibility that is uniquely mine. Sometimes it feels like a burden; most of the time it feels like a privilege. No one cares more deeply about this company than me. It’s my name and my legacy and my passion. In the spirit of candid and honest transparency, here’s a glimpse of some of my business-related thoughts in this very moment: I have an idea for a podcast, an idea for a tv show, an idea for a subscription program, an idea for a live event, an idea for a charitable business model, ideas for more online courses … and yes, an idea for a new app. There is no shortage of ideas.
So what’s the issue??
First of all, each great idea is accompanied with doubts and fears and questions and concerns and insecurities. Second, I can’t — and don’t want to — do everything all at once. I understand my limitations. Third, times are changing and I’m evolving and your needs are evolving. So the issue is this — despite so many good ideas and intentions, I am left wondering if the ideas and intentions have us on the right track. Are we doing what we’re supposed to be doing and how we’re supposed to be doing it? (I always say women tend to overthink everything; apparently I am living proof of that sometimes — ha!)
I warned you about the rambling. Did I mention this was going to get so personal, too? As I mentioned, I’ve spent much time in prayer. I have a deep and sincere desire to align my will with God’s will for me, for my team, for this company, and for our influence in the world. I don’t have all the answers right now, but I FEEL the evolution. I FEEL that amazing things are happening. There is so much more to be unfolded. I’m excited! And nervous. And all the while, I continue to feel a rich sense of gratitude — not only for what we’ve been able to do and experience in the past 9 years, but also to be in the thick of some unknowns and to feel like there are more amazing things around the corner. I know, from the bottom of my heart, that this company has a place in DOING GOOD in the world. There is more for us to do. I’m just always trying to figure out what that looks like for us, you know?
So how does all of this apply to you? Well, you signed up to receive a regular email from us so I figure there’s a chance you’re interested in some of the grit, thought, and heart & soul that goes into this brand that I hope you feel somewhat connected to. But also — I want to testify that while hard work and hustle and putting your nose to the wheel is important to get what you want out of life … it’s ALSO important (actually, I’ll say it’s VITAL) to intentionally and proactively carve out the time to JUST. BE. STILL. To listen. To ponder. To think about the really big picture. To me, this means eliminating distractions, shutting down the computer, taking a break from scrolling, putting the phone away, closing the notebook full of to-dos, and earnestly praying. And then … listening. REALLY listening.
Whether you’re trying to grow your own business or work on relationship goals or figure out the best way you can serve in your community or church or otherwise … or perhaps you’re trying to figure out the next steps in your life … I urge you to turn off the noise. Take a break. Be alone — even if it’s just for 15 minutes a day for a full week, or maybe it’s an overnighter somewhere away from home. Ignore the lists and texts and dishes for a moment … and tune in to your heart. I have learned that I NEED this true stillness from time to time in order to truly re-evaluate and re-focus and re-energize and re-center my efforts.
I want to thank you for being here. You likely made it this far in my rambling because something resonates with you. Pay attention to whatever nudge or prompting you’re feeling. Don’t ignore that. What are you going to do about it? I am cheering you on, friend.
As for me? Us? Oh, trust me. We’re not going anywhere. You will continue to see wonderful things from BH. We are working on some awesome projects. When I carve out time for stillness and very reflective big-picture thinking, that doesn’t mean the company’s wheels stop turning. We are regularly producing and launching and sharing as long as you continue to benefit from our efforts. If there’s something we do / have done that you have found to be particularly meaningful and helpful in your own life, I’d love to hear from you. Reply and tell us what you find the most valuable … or tell us what you would LOVE to see us pursue. It is often YOUR feedback that really helps us know how to steer this ship. Thank you for that."

and yes, an idea for a new app.. This would may explain why she made her current app free. I’m curious as to what kind of app she could even offer other than what she already has on the market.

WTF? First Ali is rambling about evolving and now Beggy is using the same term. Did these two end up at the same 'how to save your business retreat'? Geez. I am about fed up with all the mid-life crisis's and evolving that is happening in scrapbook world.

Ehhhhhhhhhhh wut? I read that email twice and I still don't understand what she's going on about. That reads like a private journal entry. So deeply unprofessional!

This email makes me so angry. Becky Higgins is a business. Run it like a business. Maybe the reason she's struggling with her purpose is because she runs it like a sorority. Maybe you wouldn't be trying to figure out the business if you had a business model or mentor. If she had a plan she would be growing the business she loves and not trying to school us with her life lessons. #BHFAVORITES #BH....blah, blah, blah....
I find the "Just. Be. Still" message so condescending it makes my nuts. She has no idea what reality is.
I also logged into my classroom account (I had the misfortune of taking the photo class-but that's on another thread) and see that the behind the scene rating of the class is a half filled in star. I don't believe that rating can be seen outside of the classroom.
Maybe she should "Just. Be. Still" with the fraud of her class or maybe she's one that only likes to reflect on other's shortcomings because she's a "working mom."
Please someone in that office speak up! Unless they are all this naive.
Can you imagine getting an email like this from any other business? Seriously...see a therapist.

Does Becky’s train of thought have a caboose? I read it twice and still couldn’t figure out what her point was. She needs to save the stream of consciousness stuff for her personal writings. I’m sure she has some $8 notebooks lying around that she could fill.

I also don't notice Becky notifying her followers when she uses affiliate links to amazon. All the marketing advice I've seen is to DISCLOSE DISCLOSE DISCLOSE. For example "Here are some examples of what you can post on Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn: clickmoneynetwork.com/SumoMe (SumoMe Affiliate link)The “(SumoMe Affiliate link)” is more than enough to let people know it’s your affiliate. When you go into full disclosure on any social network, it’s going to turn people off. A simple “(product name Affiliate link)” will do the trick." I notice Becky just puts in the amazon link w/no disclosure when it's an affiliate link.

Do I Understand correctly, Becky posted Sara's essay? I think it would have made more sense to introduce Sara, summarize the issue and post a link. Not recopy the very personal rambling and present it in a way that's confusing.
Poor Becky really needs to get some real business advice and come to grips with her desire to be an icon or a friend. She's taking a (formerly) thriving business and cliche-ing it into every working mom's attempt. I thought the goal would be the other way around.

I find the "Just. Be. Still" message so condescending it makes my nuts. She has no idea what reality is. Have you seen the huge house they are building and all the vacation photos she posts? She is a very fortunate person and that's great but it makes her shilling of everything from earrings to wrapping paper even more baffling (and dare I say greedy?). What kind of market is she trying to appeal to because it seems like she is going for upper class women with money to burn, but I would think her cheaply made/cookie cutter products are not going to appeal to that demographic. And I do find her condescending and out of touch with reality.

I don't understand why she wants to sell recipes? Yes, I know adoration, validation, fame mongering. I am reading a LDS blog right now and the author is sharing her yummy fancy recipes for free. All sorts of breads, desserts, etc... It is a frugality prepping blog but still the recipes are free and I think more appetizing. I am not trying to throw shade at Becky's recipes. I am sure some find them yummy. I am not a foodie. I am happy with a bowl of rice and salad. I am a boring eater. I do really truly get perplexed when somebody who is not in the cooking world wants to monetize their recipes. I read so many frugality blogs and recipes are always given for free. I have this whole idea that sharing food knowledge is free. Becky is not Ina Garten and Ina Garten is not Becky. Becky should seriously try to remember this about herself. I get it she wants to expand. That's great. I have said that before. The way she is expanding does not fit her personality and now it seems pushy and desperate. As a consumer I don't want to purchase from somebody who is pushy or desperate. It just makes me wonder if they even pay attention to what they are selling. You get people like Becky who push and then six months later you hear about a recall on their product.
Here's the blog I was mentioning- frugalmeasures.blogspot.com/ I know somebody would be like "Hello!!!! Share!!!" She is a stamper too. Bonus.

All the big chefs have a seriously loaded free recipe index on their website. I have no need for Buckey's $1/recipe "offer" or whatever she's cooking up.
Anyhoo, she was on IG Stories again. And blabbing on about how her email got soooo many (apparently positive) responses and she's reading through them all. Blessed be this fruit loop (and those who still worship at her feet).

Recipes? Seriously?
When the Martha Stewarts/Donna Hays/ and a million other chefs in the world with 4x following and a gazillion books published give their recipes for free, who on earth is stupid enough to try to monetize mediocre recipes?

They're not even her recipes!! When chefs sell and/or give away their recipes for free they are recipes they actually created. BH is just stealing other people's recipes and then trying to sell them!
