And the more I think about it, the madder I get. If she’s ok with breaking privacy laws, what else is she ok with? I know as an employer there are about 10 different tax laws I have to follow as well.

It’s not only rude, but that’s confidential personnel info she’s posting. She obviously doesn’t have an HR person or attorney advising her. There’s a reason all you can say is that the person is no longer employed by the company. Plus since she’s willingly admitting there was no reason for Toni’s firing, nowcshes opened herself up for a lawsuit and an unemployment case. Clearly Becky has never had a real job or she would see how completely unprofessional this all is. Not an employment law attorney, but I am an attorney. Toni wasn't fired, she was let go. Becky admits that she let Toni go because there was downsizing at the company and the position was eliminated. There is no risk of lawsuit there. Becky also isn't violating any confidential personnel rules as long as Toni consented, which it seems she did (even if it was reluctant). Also, many of the employment related laws that protect employees don't apply (or have relaxed standards) for employers with less than a certain number of employees which she likely qualifies for.
As far as tax law (I am a tax attorney), Becky likely hires an accountant to handle all of her tax responsibilities. If she is messing up tax responsibilities, it is likely the IRS or the Arizona Dept. of Revenue will catch on. Although she makes bad decisions, I doubt she would intentionally violate tax laws... so the worst that could happen is she could owe back taxes for incompetent practices.
Although her choices are ill-advised and demonstrate bad judgment and poor business management, they don't seem to be illegal.

I am not surprised the Becky Higgins brand is downsizing. The craft industry is fickle and her products don't have the appeal they did 5 or 6 years ago. Can she survive on in-app purchases alone? And digital sales? I'm not seeing a lot of new or inspiring products coming from her company anymore. So many other kit clubs do Project Life better than Becky, and she invented the PL concept!

She actually didn't invent the concept, she just marketed it better than anyone else. Simple Stories has so many cut aparts in their collections because that's always been their concept, too. In knowing that, it makes it even more baffling how awful her marketing has become. She has more access to marketing resources given her partnership with American Crafts and she seems to suck at it more now than when she was essentially a one woman show trying to figure everything out on her own in the very beginning.

From IG: "I am a guest on thewomenwithfire podcast! Check out episode 73 where I talk about faith and business and how I don’t separate the two. "
Yeah, maybe that explains why you're having to lay off staff. Well...that and the crappy "my favorite things" posts - pushing items people can buy more easily and cheaply on Amazon.

Becky's gonna start a podcast.
Becky was just on someone else's podcast.
The people on whose podcast she guested (thewomenwithfire) have lots of other podcasters on to talk about their podcasts.
Those women have podcasts (spirituallymindedmom) on which they invite other podcasters (amandaloudercoaching) to talk about their podcasts.
It's like a whole network of podcasters talking to other podcasters.

Between being shady on class reviews and looking for sympathy because she had to lay off an employee I'm starting to wonder what's wrong with her. Is she clueless or a mean girl?

Between being shady on class reviews and looking for sympathy because she had to lay off an employee I'm starting to wonder what's wrong with her. Is she clueless or a mean girl? I’m leaning towards clueless, but she certainly looks like a meangirl with her actions. I just don’t think she’s had much of the “real world”. Her life is one of privledge and she doesn’t have the smarts to just shut up once in awhile. Like going on and on about this new house they’re building right as she lays off an employee. It’s tacky. Or the sign that said you get the life you have the courage to ask for. I’m guessing her husband hasn’t tried to kill her in front of her children. I didn’t ask for that. I grew up rough, my mom was a single mother. Bad things happened to me at the hands of her many boyfriends. I’m cynical and untrusting. But I’m also smart enough to do stuff like change the oil in my car, I’ll work at a gas station for a paycheck, I’ve had to accept food stamps to put food on my table. That’s real life there and I’m pretty thankful I’ve experienced these things because THAT is what makes a grateful heart. Not some stupid ass sign or a cushy job doing absofuckinglutely nothing all day in a fancy office and feeling like you’ve changed the world with your endless high school girl posts about shoes and faith and cheap earrings. Sorry. I’m getting antsy waiting to find out about my financial aid appeal for college. class sign up is soon and I’m so excited to learn!

Exactly. She's that cute middle school girl complaining about her looks. I haven't unfollowed her on FB yet, but the endless posts about faith are going to do it. Being Mormon is the only path to happiness. We get it.

I question how she is still relevant to the scrapbook world. Wishing she would please go away or just shut up. She's really not. The fact that she didn't have the foresight to see telling a good chunk of her customer base that they were using her products wrong was a good way to push those customers away says a lot. Then telling those same people who wanted to shop with her that she didn't want to cater to their requests for more than albums, pp, cards and pens that she wasn't interested to eventually backpedal and yet STILL market them with a declaration (insistence even) that you didn't need those things to scrapbook. Scrapbooking takes all types (including those who like the simplicity of the app who wouldn't in a million years call themselves scrapbookers or consider themselves creative) and she only catered the lifestyle trend following people, not the people who were buying every kit she released and asking her for more things that they could buy. It takes a special kind of stupid to tell people you aren't interested in their money and then wonder why your business nosedived.

And I’ve never listened to a podcast. I've only listened to two. Serial and Small Town Murder. The second is filled with expletives and dark humor. I don't think I'm Becky's target audience. Being Mormon is the only path to happiness. We get it.
I know that was said with sarcasm, but my life is much better without it; what works for some, doesn't work for others.

I unfollowed her on all social media platforms (according to my post upthread it was about 10 days ago). I literally have not thought about her once since then until I saw this thread bumped. I would argue that proves at least to me that she’s not relevant.

I haven't read this entire Becky post but it keeps popping up. So just reading page 7 and the comments about why she doesn't just go away, this is my take: I used to somewhat follow her (and Lisa Bearnson) years ago... through the magazines and somewhat afterwards..not much now...
I haven't seen a thing from her in years. I don't go on FB to her page (never thought about it) I see some of her product in the stores. (I buy or don't buy.) I just buy what I like. I don't listen to podcasts... and if I didn't like her I wouldn't go to her podcasts. I don't know anything about her faith (well I know what religion she is) but other than she is married and has a couple of kids (2? 3?) I scrapbook and I don't hear a thing about her... I couldn't tell you if she even makes scrapbook stuff anymore?
So that all said, how is she on everyone's radar? She is never on mine whatsoever. Ya'll want her to shut up yet do you still listen to her?
Not trying to be snarky, but just laying it out there.. she is so not relevant in my scrapping space.. I might have her product (PL stuff) but that is it.
I couldn't even tell you what she is doing because I don't go looking for it.

I've unfollowed her but others here haven't and even with unfollowing her and others, they show up in my suggested sometimes. Like immediately after unfollowing Amy Tan her most recent posts that I had seen as a follower were in my suggestions on IG. I don't follow anything related to Tracie Claiborne either and all sorts of her crap shows up in my suggested because some of the people I follow don't know what a fraud she is, yet, making it something like a friend suggestion on FB. 'Oh, this one random obscure person you're friends with/follow that you never actually interact with is friends with/follows this person/business, so you'd probably like them, too'.

She posted about her BYU talk on her IG. She was more proud of that than anything I think but I probably would be too, IF I had an Alma mater to speak of. As for prosytelizing, it’s unprofessional, yes, but in a talk at a religious college, I think speaking on it was ok. And probably expected. Oh, totally ok for the BYU talk itself. Just interesting that she admits that bringing people to "heavenly father" is one of her social media objectives. Yeah, nothing brings me closer to God than purchasing overpriced, mass produced goods.

I was tearing up an old Allure magazines this week for my collage art. I came across this article about Mormon Mommy bloggers. Wow! That was an interesting read. There are references to why the Mommy bloggers and scrapbooking in this article. Also they have more plastic surgeons per capita than LA. It was a really interesting read. I found the online version for everyone- www.allure.com/story/why-so-many-beauty-bloggers-are-mormon.
After reading it I thought it explained a lot about our own stars.
Does it make me feel worse? No, because they are not perfect Mom's. I am not saying they are not good Mom's. It is a projected image and nobody can keep that up for long without crashing. See- Hollywood starlets and their tragic falls.
Note- I know the Mormon church is publishing articles letting us all know we are not to say Mormon's or LDS and we are suppose to use Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. There is no way I am writing down that long title every time we discuss this religion as a business.

Wow! That explains all the ski slope noses I keep seeing in the (young) Mormon mother influencer community (I don't know why IG keeps putting them in my recommendations: I don't have kids, I don't buy kid things, I don't like kid pics #porfavorInstagram #Iknowyouhavefiguredoutmyage #butIamnotbroody).
Does anyone know why there are so many more Mormon women than men in Utah? What's going on? Is it just the consequence of more men leaving the religion than women? Is there something in the water (which would explain polygamy )?

I'm so sorry you had to go through all of these awful situations. This is actually what has made me stop following quite a few "celebrity" crafters/artists. It's that attitude of superiority because their lives appear to be so privileged. I don't know whether or not they are in real life, but it is a turn-off to those of us whose lives aren't all sunshine and roses. And to even suggest that "we get the life we ask for" is not only untrue, but it is also hurtful and ignorant. It makes her appear trite and clueless. It's also one of the reasons so many are turning away from organized religion - but that's for another thread another day. I wish you great success with your financial aid and your college classes this semester.

I really think there are the haves and have nots (sp?) in Utah. The higher up in callings, if you live in Utah County, if you are related to one of the higher ups, the more likely you see the perfect little mommies. My husband's family is more "elite" than mine and it's eye opening. Two of his cousins married the grandchildren of two different general authorities. Holy hell, they come from rich families!
I can see the snobbery of a couple of his family members. I truly don't think they get what they are doing or how they act. It's like they are seriously so blessed!!! They have to list all of their blessings and how much everything costs. Then there's the others who are very down to earth and the nicest people.
Is it just the of more men leaving the religion than women? My first year of college, I still remember there were *13* men in our entire college singles ward (congregation). I was relieved because when they are more even, we referred to them as meat markets.

Becky is going on a 10 day social media fast directed by her church. She’s gonna be BURSTING when it ends. Especially since she averages 6 POSTS A DAY. She did a week fast awhile back and there were no fewer than 10 posts telling us all about the week after. What’s the point of a social media break if you come back and triple your post count. Seriously I get so tired of the social media preach by influencers.

Becky is going on a 10 day social media fast directed by her church. She’s gonna be BURSTING when it ends. Found this on another blog board about a different Mormon blogger: “I saw on Design Mom's Twitter that the LDS prophet asked women to fast social media for ten days. She's upset about it (understandably so) and being snarky to women who comment in support of it. However, I bet the Tazas of the world go along with the word of the prophet, so do you all think it's going be a slow ten days in social media since so many prominent bloggers are Mormon?” A PROPHET has told them to do this guys.
