Few thoughts floating today... Whatever the GOP did to Garland, it doesn’t or shouldn’t matter, because Kanaugh won’t produce the documents asked for. The ‘they did it too’ bull crap doesn’t work for me. But obstruction and lack of co-operation from the NOMINEE does. No senator from either side needs to support a nominee that doesn’t co-operate in the process and produce the necessary documentation.

Things could get interesting in Florida.. Holly Figueroa O’Reilly... “What? Excuse me? That Republican dog whistle is more like a megaphone lately. GOP nominee for #FLGov Ron DeSantis just said Florida shouldn't "monkey this up" by electing Andrew Gillum. What. The. Holy. Balls.” There was a video attached and he did say that. And he also said that they needed to build on the great work Scott has done which reminded me of this tweet I had read earlier from a Darryl Fears “Ninety million dollars in business losses and climbing. In Florida, where the governor cut the budgets of water districts and laid off hundreds of environmental workers, two algae blooms are killing animals, tourism and commerce.” And the usual suspects will come out of the woodwork here to defend his words and say that they know he didn’t mean to be racist....

I have never considered the term “monkey this up” to be racist. To me it is just like saying “someone threw a monkey wrench into your plans” meaning they are making things difficult. I think saying that he is racist based on that one statement alone is ridiculous and part of the reason people scream about liberal tears and persecution complexes. If this guy has a history of saying terrible things then maybe he did mean it to be racist, but I completely disagree that that one phrase was racist. I am sure the peas will tell me if I am wrong though.

ABC News... “JUST IN: Pres. Trump defends government's response to Puerto Rico after death toll from Hurricane Maria was officially raised from 64 to almost 3,000. "I think we did a fantastic job...Most of the people in Puerto Rico really appreciate what we've done." abcn.ws/2BYLRPJ” Unbelievable. Yeah, those paper towels really turned that whole situation around, didn’t they? God, he is such an imbecile.

To use the word monkey in connection with a POC is racist. Andrew Gillum is a POC. ETA: if you are talking about a white person "Monkeying this up" then that has the meaning of making things difficult. But not when your are talking about a POC. You have to take into account the history of this country.

So they don't want him to go through the FULL vetting process?!? 'oh, that's old news, water under the bridge, yaddah, yaddah, yaddah...' "Let's just confirm him because we think he's a good guy" basically. --my opinion is (not knowing ANYTHING else about the situation or the people involved) is that the person who wrote 'monkey this up' was botching the phrase 'throwing a monkey wrench into it' or trying to *abbreviate* that phrase in some way, and it got horribly wrong. But that's just my opinion. (and yes, I'm a US citizen but I've never heard 'monkey this up' used as a racist phrase-- actually I've never heard that phrase used, period.)

You know that won't matter to the Republicans. This is why Dem unity is critical. I don’t care if the 49 Dems have to chain themselves to each other, gag Joe Manchin, and have Richard Durbin whip everybody into submission… they all NEED to stand united against Kavanaugh. As Stanley Tucci yelled in The Devil Wears Prada: Gird your loins!! No shilly-shallying, no hemming and hawing, let loose the spittle and argue everything to death. Vote as one solid bloc and we’ll need just two moderate Republicans (Collins and Murkowski are possibilities). And just a reminder to all why this is crucial. It’s not about what they did to Garland, and it’s not even about documents. Kavanaugh, if confirmed, will be the jurist who can conceivably have the decisive power to take away whatever little healthcare people may have, women’s reproductive rights, and justice afforded the people for a corrupt administration. Those who participate on this board who are in their 20s, 30s and 40s need to pay particular attention and email their senators because this will be the jurist who can impact your lives for the next forty years. We have two liberal justices in their 80s - Breyer and Ginsburg. If they retire while Trump is president (and the likelihood is high), Sotomayor and Kagan will be all we’ve got. And with Kennedy retired, the swing vote we sometimes relied on is gone. I told my Dem senators I want a bloody hair-pulling no-holds-barred fight, and if either of them vacillates I will spend the rest of my retirement years working to keep them out of office. (Well, not exactly in those words; I was a bit more polite.) I don’t care what the media says. It ain’t over ‘til the fat lady sings.

A white man dissatisfied with the out come of the election of a black man using the terms (as a dire warning for voters) not to “monkey this up”—-racist.

The Republicans demanded and got Kagan's papers.. Kavanaugh has made many decisions that do need to be vetted. Kavanaugh also does not think the president should face anything at all while in office in essence free to do whatever.... I have never considered the term “monkey this up” to be racist. I have never heard that comment and my immediate thought was that it was 'racist'.

Manafort a lawyers in trying to move his next trial...
“The defense for President Trump’s former campaign chairman told a federal judge in D.C. Manafort “has become an unwilling player in the larger drama” between Trump and special counsel Robert S. Mueller III and asserted that nowhere are potential jurors more biased against him than in the District because of its partisan makeup and saturation of political news.” (WAPO)
Funny. They had jurors that were trumpateers on his first trial. And they found him guilty....
....because he was!

Kavanaugh is dangerous, because he subscribes to the "unitary executive" theory of presidential power.
link
This theory was exercised during the GWB administration, and resulted in the "torture memo," and the signing statements on legislation stating which parts of laws the executive intended to enforce.

Kyle Griffin...
“Trump's advisers are increasingly worried that he has neither the staff nor the strategy to protect himself from a possible Democratic takeover of the House, which would empower Dems to shower the admin with subpoenas or even pursue impeachment charges.”
If he has nothing to hide, then there is no problem.

My guess the new governor of New York will be Cynthia Nixon if this pans out.

bless that family. from the article, Mollie's dad: “The Hispanic community are Iowans. They have the same values as Iowans,” he said. “As far as I’m concerned, they’re Iowans with better food.” even in his own personal hell, grace and a bit of levity (and probable truth) thrown in. Now THAT is a class act.

So this is tweet # 10 from trump this morning. And it shows just how insecure the president of the Uniged States is...
“I am very excited about the person who will be taking the place of Don McGahn as White House Counsel! I liked Don, but he was NOT responsible for me not firing Bob Mueller or Jeff Sessions. So much Fake Reporting and Fake News!”

And can we also address the character of someone who WANTS a place on the bench in THIS way? THIS is how you want to get there? Under all these fucked up circumstances? I'm sorry but that to me feels like someone with an agenda, not just a career goal.
