It was just so strange from the get go so I can't say this comes as a complete shock. It's just weird to me when old people commit murder though.

Ha ha, yes I agree with you on feeling that it's weird when old people commit murder. I think a couple things: 1) How did you make it this far in life and now ya blow it? 2) What else have you done and haven't gotten caught til now??

Legal question. His confession is still valid right? I know he is sentenced to life in prison but just wondering if he will appeal and say it was an undercover cop so it is not valid

Good heavens, how horrible for her family. Not at all surprised that he is guilty, glad the police were able to find out what happened.

Oh dear God. I expected that she was ill or something, not that he created this whole ruse after killing her because they had an argument.

Not surprised that he is guilty but man. He was brutal in how he killed her.

Sadly not surprised at all that he killed her. Sad for the wife and her relatives. In 20 years he'll be 93. If he's still alive at 93 I hope they won't release him on parole-he doesn't deserve to get out after 20 years after what he did to his poor wife. I don't care how old he is, and I hope that won't play on the sympathy of the parole hearing at the time.

Thanks for updating us on this story. I've Googled it several times since the story broke because I've wondered what happened.
Yes, the entire situation seemed so odd and implausible. It's good that the family finally has some closure to this horrible situation, but goodness. How do you ever recover from something like that?

Thanks for the update. I’ve wondered...and am not at all surprised. I think I said in the first thread that I was surprised so many people assumed this guy was so supremely confused, addled, and helpless at 72.
We’ve elected men (and almost a woman) very near that age to be president. If they can robustly screw up the country, they can robustly dispose of their wives. Luckily, cover-ups are fallible in either situation...

I was shocked so many in the thread thought otherwise. I've also googled this a few times, and I am very glad to hear that the truth is finally out, and that this man will likely never see the outside of a prison.

TFS I was one of the ones that thought that -- probably because my dad was in the midst of Alzheimer's at 72 and I could totally see him panicking and doing something weird if something had happened to my mom. And then he wouldn't be able to explain it. What an awful story, I feel so badly for their children. He can rot in jail. ETA: Thanks for updating this story -- I was thinking about it recently but never bothered to look it up.

I figured it was something that they had discussed and she had asked him to do it, to end her suffering. How horrible for everyone involved. I hope that somehow they can actually find her body, so her family can properly lay her to rest. Thank you for the update. I was just thinking about this in the last few weeks, wondering what had happened, if anything new.

ETA: Thanks for updating this story -- I was thinking about it recently but never bothered to look it up. You’re right. My bias comes from my parents’ struggles with Alzheimer’s and dementia in her 80s/90s and his 90s. Dealing with that at 72 must have been awful - and terrifying - for all involved. I’m so sorry you had to go through that. And you’re also right about jail. May this guy live a long and aware life inside.

Luckily, cover-ups are fallible in either situation... TFS I was willing to give this guy a pass on the possible dementia with his changing stories and "confusion". In addition to watching my mom deteriorate in her 70s, I worked with a guy who was diagnosed with early onset dementia in his 50s. I'm glad the police kept pushing for the truth in this case and feel sick for the family.
