I just got an e-mail from a company I love and buy from (embellishments) and they sell 3x4 journaling cards. They actually say in the description, "Project Life 3x4 Journaling Cards."
I don't know...that just seems wrong. Any of us who scrap or do PL know that 3x4 cards fit - I don't think they should be using that name.
That kind of rubbed me wrong. What do you think?

Yeah, seems like some sort of copyright should be in place for the PL brand.

I've always been surprised that Becky did not obtain copyright on PL. Could she have also obtained a patent?
I think other companies should include the words "pocket scrapbooking" in the title of the products.

She has trademarked "Project Life" and if they are using the name without her permission they could be in trouble. I wouldn't be surprised if she has someone looking out for stuff like that for her.

If Becky Higgins has trademarked the "Project Life" name or it has some type of copyright on it, then she (or her attorney) should send a "cease and desist" letter to that company or person.
HOWEVER, BH did NOT create the pocket page system. Long before PL, Provocraft had "Qwik-its" which was a pocket page system and there was probably another company before that. She also doesn't have exclusive use of the term "3x4 journaling cards".
I'm not a BH basher, I like her products, despite growing pains for her company early on, BUT, I do get a laugh that she has the logo "The original pocket scrapbooking system since 2009". Ummm, no Becky, you aren't the "original".

Yep txdancermom is right - Project Life is a registered trademark (denoted by the R symbol) and shouldn't be used without permission.

It was way before 2009, but I threw away the wrapping ages ago. Just checked. It was Scrapworks. The pages are supposed to go into their scrap "boxes," but they are pocket pages and sold way before PL hit.

We used those Scrap Works divided page protectors with the album in a big box.

The term "project life" does tend to get used for all divided page protectors though..... I suspect the popularity of the brand name works in BH's favour at times.

Are you sure Becky didn't license out the name?

I seriously doubt Becky has licensed out the name. Especially since she's still heavily promoting her brand and partnerships with scrap celebrities. I think she needs to be careful about the name and enforcing the copyright. I bet she would hate to see it go the way of "xerox".
