So, particularly for those of us of a certain age, casseroles were an intregal part of our upbringing. While ones do you remember eating as a kid? Are there any that have withstood the test of time....do you still make them? As a kid, I LOVED tuna casserole. I'd always have a second serving. It's the only casserole I really remember my mom making. Lots of noodles, and broken up potato chips on top. Carbs, carbs, and more carbs I moved out of my mom's house when I was 12, so it's stuck with me all these years. I think the only casserole type dish I've made in the last 5-10 years would be lasagne.

We had tater tot casserole which I found horrifying. I really hated anything with cream of mushroom soup mixed into it when I was a kid. I liked tuna casserole, and we would have chicken divan.
Apparently my aunt would make this disgusting casserole with spam and pineapple chunks... it literally looks like a casserole dish full of vomit.

So a casserole is what I/we (Brits) would call a bake I think? A casserole to me is a stew essentially. My favourite ācasseroleā is pasta bake with chicken, peas and a creamy white sauce.

I still make tuna casserole and chile relleno casserole but those are pretty much it for me. I didn't grow up eating a lot of casseroles either, I'm definitely "of a certain age" though LOL.

We used to have a pizza casserole with pepperoni, ground beef, egg noodles, pizza sauce, tomato soup and tons of mozzarella. I'd love to make it again but my husband can't eat anything with tomatoes š£

Oh god, my stepfather made so many casseroles growing up. I have tried to block them all out. I didn't like them then and I don't like them now.

I love casseroles! We had two that were childhood staples that I'm sure no one else here has ever eaten. 1. Bean Sprout Casserole Put cooked ground beef in a casserole dish. Layer frozen peas and a drained CAN of bean sprouts over the beef. Top with a can of mushroom soup and crumbled potato chips. Bake. Serve with potato chips. Yum 2. Kedgeree Mix cooked white rice, canned salmon, peas and chopped boiled egg whites in a casserole dish. Top with crumbled egg yolks. Bake No seasoning added to either dish, not even salt & pepper. I was nostalgic about Kedgeree, looked it up, discovered quite a different dish and added Jamie Oliver's version to our dinner line up. We never had tuna casserole growing up and my kids love a version I make with yogurt & sour cream instead of canned soups.

I absolutely adore casseroles. Would eat them every night if I could. I'm not kidding - I find them really comforting. My mom made a yummy rice and shrimp casserole that I would ask for on my birthday. I just really like the textures and flavors. I'm not a huge tuna noodle casserole person - but things like baked ziti? Lasagne? Chicken and broccoli casserole? Yum.

I think she also added water chestnuts because why the hell not. And that's all I have to say about that.

Even though I'm from that era (I think - I'm 53) I don't recall that we ate a lot of casseroles growing up. I do love a good tuna casserole every now and then, esp with potato chips on top.
My BFF's mom told me a story of when she first got married and made dinner for her new husband, a casserole, and he nearly threw it at her. Whenever I contemplate a casserole, which is not very often, I always think of that story!

I love casseroles. Total comfort food for me. Poppy Seed Chicken, King Ranch Chicken, Baked Ziti, Chicken Tetrazzini, Chicken Divan...bring it on.

I loved tuna casserole when I was about age 12. But, I must confess--I think the real reason was because it had potato chips in it...and we NEVER< NEVER< NEVER had potato chips.

OMGosh, I loooove casseroles. Sorry, but not tuna. I can not stand that smell!
My mom used to make Dorrito Casserole. Brown a pound of ground beef with a chopped onion, drain. Add a can Cream of (whatever) Soup, AND a can of Campbell's Cheddar Cheese soup, a small can of diced green chiles, salt and pepper. Cook until hot. Put crushed Doritos in a casserole dish. Pour hot beef mixture over chips. Top with cheese. (bonus if you use American cheese slices). Bake at 375F for 25-30 minutes. Soooo good!
She also used to make a Frito Tamale casserole with basically the same recipe, but with Fritos and canned tamales. And on the back of the Bisquick box there was a Cheeseburger pie or Impossible pie or something pie that is pretty good.
My X-MIL, made a "One on One" casserole. In a buttered casserole dish crumble 1# ground beef. Layer on top of beef - 1 pkg dry Onion Soup Mix, 1 cup uncooked rice, 1 can mushroom soup, 1 can of water, chopped green onion tops. Bake at 350F for 1 hour. XH loved this.

We rarely had casseroles growing up. I became proficient in casseroles upon becoming a new mom. No pitch in at a MOPS meeting or meal train for one of our new moms was complete without at least a half dozen casseroles š. I prefer breakfast casseroles to most of the dinner versions, but this thread reminds me that I should get my ginormous casserole cookbook out now that the weather is turning here.

We had casseroles a lot when I was growing up. I still like them, although some are better than others. I prefer chicken and noodles to tuna noodle casserole.
We frequently had one that was ground beef, and macaroni and tomato sauce.

My dad would make hot dish when my mom was out of town at craft fairs with her small business. I learned very quickly to get invited to friendās houses for the weekend.
I missed out on what he dubbed ācold bowl.ā It was the dish that inspired my brother to learn how to cook.
Bless my dad, heās many great things - a cook he is not.

I did like the creamy, noodley kind of casseroles, but not tuna. My mom made a wonderful lasagna, too!
I have made lasagna, both traditional and non-traditional. I used to make a taco casserole that dh and I really liked - I wonder what happened to that recipe? I could try it again now that my pickiest eater is out of the house...
I love casseroles because I can get the kitchen all cleaned up while it bakes, so there's less to do after dinner!

My husband and I both love casseroles and have them for dinner every ten days or so. My husband made lasagne for dinner tonight. We try to make our casseroles a little healthier than we did when we first got married 30 years ago.
My mom never made casseroles when I was growing up. She didnāt cook much and I donāt ever remember her making a casserole.

During my 70's childhood, Schilling made two boxed casserole ingredient mixes to which you would just add meat--Taco Casserole in a green box and Tamale Pie in a yellow box. How we loved them, especially taco casserole. It had mini triangular tortilla chips to sprinkle on top. Other than those, I don't remember eating casseroles. P.S. Jello 123 for dessert!

Tuna casserole is the one that I still make.
My MIL used to have a whole medley of casseroles when she would have everyone over. My favorite was by far a corn casserole that she made. (I'd love to share the recipe, but I don't have it with me.)

Growing up I had a lot of rice based casseroles as my mother had celiacs. My favorite was her chicken casserole. Next her chili rice. Due to the celiacs we never had commercial soup based casseroles. Not sure itās considrred a casserole per se but my dad made a mean rice āpuddingā Baked in a casserole dish
As an adult I married a Jewish man and that added several casseroles to my repertoire. Kugel - sweet kugel and savory kugel which are wide noodle based casseroles. Of course matzo Brie and matzo based dressings for Passover. And a couple of rice pilafs

No seasoning added to either dish, not even salt & pepper. Well, some of the ingredients tend to already have too much salt... but no other seasoning at all? That's downright sad. I thought I would impress my then boyfriend (now DH) by making tuna casserole once. He refused to eat it. And you married him anyway?
