My mom loved them and made them frequently in the 60’s. And used canned soup! One that I loved mixed cooked hamburger and sliced potatoes. I think she used cream of celery soup. It was good. I don’t use canned soups much because of sodium and additives, and wonder if I could recreate this with a white sauce. 🤔

So a casserole is what I/we (Brits) would call a bake I think? A casserole to me is a stew essentially. My favourite ‘casserole’ is pasta bake with chicken, peas and a creamy white sauce. Is that Britishism? I use it but didn't know. We didn't have a lot of them growing up and don't really now. I like them just fine.

The only true casserole I remember my mom making was tuna casserole and it turned me off from even trying another tuna casserole the past 30+ years. I never thought of lasagna as a casserole, but if it qualifies as a casserole, she did make that and I wasn't a fan of her lasagna. I now make lasagna a few times a year during the cooler months. She would make her version of ghoulash, but it was prepared on the stove top, not in the oven, so I don't know that it would count. She also made a few stews, but again on the stove top, like a soup, not in a casserole dish in the oven. I have an Olive Garden copycat recipe from Pinterest that some may consider a casserole, but it doesn't involve any canned soups - Baked Shrimp Parmesan Pasta. I add some fresh pressed garlic to their recipe and use less butter. I've also made some potato-based casseroles that we like. So I guess I make more casseroles than I originally thought.
