Truly disgusting. This makes me so sad. The school I teach in is 90+% Hispanic, largely Mexican. The kids are polite, kind, and trying to do their best to be more successful than their parents.
At our school, we didn't have anything like this. Instead, MEChA set up a beautiful altar for Dia de los Muertos, with a long decorated pathway that welcomed people to come look at it. They invited anyone who was interested in participating to bring a photo of their loved ones who have passed on to be included in the altar. It was respectful and kind. It was a beautiful way to acknowledge the culture of many of our students, but also to invite others to participate.

my dd works in an office in new zealand. her boss's idea of team effort for halloween was for everyone to dress as mexicans (big hats and fake mustasches.. my daughter was appalled and would not participate.. and the boss wouldn't back down and didn't see any problem with it.. of course, being from CA.. my dd was the only person who knew mexicans.. they had "tacos" flour tortillas, iceberg lettuce, a little shredded cheese and some beans.. she said.. they didn't have any salsa or hot sauce!!!
she was not happy. cultures are not costumes.

One of my local news stations posted this on facebook and the comments are vile. I shouldn't be shocked but for this to happen at an elementary school in this day and age is just beyond gross.

linkInteresting. Note the last sentence. From Fox News.. “Migrants traveling to US sue Trump, government; claim violation of constitutional rights”
From the article.. “A dozen migrants traveling by foot from Honduras to the U.S. to seek asylum filed a class-action lawsuit Thursday against President Trump, the Department of Homeland Security and others, claiming a violation of their due process under the Fifth Amendment. The Fifth Amendment states that, "no person… shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law." A recent PBS report cited former Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who ruled in 1993 case that " it is well established that the Fifth Amendment entitles aliens to due process of law in a deportation proceeding."Twelve Honduran nationals, including six children, are listed as plaintiffs in the lawsuit. The suit, which was filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., said it is widely known that Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador are “undergoing a well-documented human rights crisis.” The lawsuit also claims that the plaintiffs’ right to the Administrative Procedures Act and the Declaratory Judgement Act were being infringed upon. The Central American migrant caravan now numbers approximately 4,000 people, down from a high of 7,200.” I’m not surprised the numbers are down. Why on earth would they want to come here?

Trump means that Stacey Abraham is not qualified because: 1. She is black, 2. She is a woman, 3. She challenged the dishonesty of a republican gaming the elections 4. She is not a white republican male. In that order. Lol. Yeah, probably goes into fits in private every time he sees her black face on TV. (Btw, it's Abrams.) I wonder why he didn't attack Oprah? He loves attacking Libs in the entertainment industry. Because Oprah has already proven she will spend her money going to court on the principle of something just because she can afford to.

A plaid? 3 people who look like the 1970’s doll from the tourist trap south of the border in South Carolina? and is that a Hawaiian shirt? Maybe, since they are in a school they can take a few moment to educate themselves.

“Obama: "They're telling you the existential threat to America is a bunch of poor refugees 1,000 miles away. They're even taking our brave troops away from their families for a political stunt at the border. The men and women of our military deserve better than that." (via ABC)”

linkRobert Maguire... “BREAKING: CREW has discovered that Noel Francisco -- next in line to oversee the Russia probe if Rosenstein is fired or resigns -- got a waiver releasing him from Trump admin ethics rules that would likely have kept him from overseeing the Russia probe” “CREW DISCOVERS PREVIOUSLY UNDISCLOSED ETHICS WAIVER FOR SOLICITOR GENERAL NOEL FRANCISCO” From the article... “CREW has uncovered a previously undisclosed ethics waiver that may represent an effort to clear one of the obstacles to Solicitor General Noel Francisco replacing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein as the official overseeing the Russia investigation. If Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein either resigns or is fired, someone else will have to oversee the Special Counsel investigation. Next in line appears to be Solicitor General Noel Francisco. The problem is that Mr. Francisco has ties to the pending investigation that should preclude his participation. For one thing, his former law firm, Jones Day, represents the Trump Presidential Campaign in the Special Counsel investigation. Also, Mr. Francisco has a continuing financial relationship with Jones Day, which owes him more than half a million dollars. In addition, he previously appeared before the Justice Department as a member of a “Landing Team” on behalf of the Presidential Transition Team. The first of the three obstacles Mr. Francisco faces – his former employment relationship with Jones Day – raises an issue under the Trump ethics Executive Order. As required by that Executive Order, Mr. Francisco signed an ethics pledge in which he promised that, for two years after joining the government, he would not participate in any investigation in which Jones Day represents a client. That promise means he must stay out of the Special Counsel investigation until at least late January 2019. However, CREW has discovered that the Trump administration issued Mr. Francisco an ethics waiver on April 24, 2018. The waiver relieves him from any obligation to honor his ethics pledge to recuse from investigations involving Jones Day. The waiver states only that he is relieved of this obligation and offers no justification whatsoever. It simply waives the obligation, thereby eliminating one of the three obstacles to his overseeing the Special Counsel investigation. The waiver is troubling for a couple of other reasons, as well. First, the Office of Government Ethics maintains an online list of all ethics pledge waivers issued by the Trump administration to political appointees serving outside the White House. Notably absent from this list is Mr. Francisco’s waiver. At least one more recent waiver was included in the list, so it is strange that Mr. Francisco’s waiver was left off the list.” Serious question. Why should anyone that has a top position in the government should be able to get an ethics waiver?

linkFrom the Atlantic... “The Cruelty Is the Point” From the article. “President Trump and his supporters find community by rejoicing in the suffering of those they hate and fear. & The Trump era is such a whirlwind of cruelty that it can be hard to keep track. This week alone, the news broke that the Trump administration was seeking to ethnically cleanse more than 193,000 American children of immigrants whose temporary protected status had been revoked by the administration, that the Department of Homeland Security had lied about creating a database of children that would make it possible to unite them with the families the Trump administration had arbitrarily destroyed, that the White House was considering a blanket ban on visas for Chinese students, and that it would deny visas to the same-sex partners of foreign officials. At a rally in Mississippi, a crowd of Trump supporters cheered as the president mocked Christine Blasey Ford, the psychology professor who has said that Brett Kavanaugh, whom Trump has nominated to a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court, attempted to rape her when she was a teenager. “Lock her up!” they shouted. Ford testified to the Senate, utilizing her professional expertise to describe the encounter, that one of the parts of the incident she remembered most was Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge laughing at her as Kavanaugh fumbled at her clothing. “Indelible in the hippocampus is the laughter,” Ford said, referring to the part of the brain that processes emotion and memory, “the uproarious laughter between the two, and their having fun at my expense.” And then at Tuesday’s rally, the president made his supporters laugh at her. Even those who believe that Ford fabricated her account, or was mistaken in its details, can see that the president’s mocking of her testimony renders all sexual-assault survivors collateral damage. Anyone afraid of coming forward, afraid that she would not be believed, can now look to the president to see her fears realized. Once malice is embraced as a virtue, it is impossible to contain. The cruelty of the Trump administration’s policies, and the ritual rhetorical flaying of his targets before his supporters, are intimately connected. As Lili Loofbourow wrote of the Kavanaugh incident in Slate, adolescent male cruelty toward women is a bonding mechanism, a vehicle for intimacy through contempt. The white men in the lynching photos are smiling not merely because of what they have done, but because they have done it together. &Trump’s only true skill is the con; his only fundamental belief is that the United States is the birthright of straight, white, Christian men, and his only real, authentic pleasure is in cruelty. It is that cruelty, and the delight it brings them, that binds his most ardent supporters to him, in shared scorn for those they hate and fear: immigrants, black voters, feminists, and treasonous white men who empathize with any of those who would steal their birthright. The president’s ability to execute that cruelty through word and deed makes them euphoric. It makes them feel good, it makes them feel proud, it makes them feel happy, it makes them feel united. And as long as he makes them feel that way, they will let him get away with anything, no matter what it costs them. & “Trump’s only true skill is the con; his only fundamental belief is that the United States is the birthright of straight, white, Christian men, and his only real, authentic pleasure is in cruelty. linkSerious question. Why should anyone that has a top position in the government should be able to get an ethics waiver? Serious answer: Generally so they can lobby after their terms. With Noel Francisco, I don’t think CREW can do anything about this; it’s an executive branch privilege. Mueller himself was given an ethics waiver by the DOJ so he could be special prosecutor. Jones Day is a one of the largest law firms in the world so it’s not unusual for its alums to be working in the WH admin (like Don McGahn). If Noel Francisco is out his replacement will likely be another Jones Day lawyer.

just in case anyone wants some humor mixed in with the fear-mongering; Seth Meyers's Closer Look at the Fear-Mongering using the Immigrant Caravan (with a bit of Barack Obama thrown in there, too!)
ETA: Now I'm listening to an Anderson Cooper clip from yesterday on youtube talking about the caravan horse-crap announcement Trump made from the WH. As part of it, he mentioned that whichever entity is keeping track now calculates that Trump is up to more than 8 lies per day now, up from just over 5 lies per day previously.

And this is exactly why they shouldn’t give ethics waivers...
Maddow Blog.
“The Trump White House secretly granted an ethics waiver to the guy who would take over oversight of the Trump Russia investigation if Rod Rosenstein is fired, even though his law firm represents the Trump compaign.”
If someone has to have an ethics waiver then maybe they shouldn’t work for the government. Especially if the ethics waiver is used to benefit someone personally saylike the president

“Three people are dead, including the shooter, after a gunman opened fire on a yoga class in Tallahassee, Florida, on Friday evening. abcn.ws/2QhrqR1”
Well that wouldn’t of happened if the Yoga Studio had armed guards....
The list of places that should have armed guards is growing. I guess that is one way to create jobs to #MAGA.

Where are the Dems on this?” Kyle Griffin... “Kavanaugh” Of course he doen’t name the woman. Because, she doesn't exist! Otherwise dt would be announcing her name loud and clear for all to hear and as a way to put her down as he does to all!. Some woman does exist: Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) on Friday asked the Justice Department (DOJ) to investigate a "fabricated allegation" against newly minted Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh from a woman identified as Judy Munro-Leighton. Grassley, in a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI Director Christopher Wray, wrote that Munro-Leighton admitted to the committee on Nov. 1 that she previously lied about an allegation that Kavanaugh and a friend raped her in the backseat of a car. He wrote that Munro-Leighton said she “just wanted to get attention," "it was a tactic" and it "was just a ploy" when investigators pressed her on Friday. "Under questioning by Committee investigators, Ms. Munro-Leighton admitted, contrary to her prior claims, that she had not been sexually assaulted by Judge Kavanaugh,” Grassley wrote. Investigators began looking into Munro-Leighton's allegations at the beginning of October, after she sent an email to the committee claiming she was the woman who sent an anonymous letter to Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) in late September alleging Kavanaugh raped her. ** 'the letter that I sent to Sen. Kamala Harris on Sept. 19 with details of this vicious assault,'" thehill.com/homenews/senate/414693-senate-panel-asks-doj-to-investigate-fabricated-allegation-against-kavanaughShe wrote the letter in Sept. This apparently is not new news........... Not sure dt should be releasing ANY of the info ...... This does NOT discount Dr Ford or Ramirez..
